Are You Corruptible?

Many people set out with very righteous and pure goals only to end up being corrupted in the long run. Hence the saying "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely". Do you believe that if you were given power you would be corrupted? What would make you different and do you think there is anyone in the world who is uncorrectable?

"With great power comes great responsibility" always loved that one but many see it as "With great responsibility comes great power " Everyone is corruptible but what corrupts them might be different for you or me or whoever.

Yes because an extremely rich man will not easily be made to do something by being offered money. A hungry man on the other hand will go very far for food. So different people are corruptible by different things. Do you agree?

What makes me different? I am already corrupted. If I got power, I Know I would abuse it. So I don't seek it out.

Sarah, you may be corrupted but you stand by what you believe in, there is a lot to be said for that

You are very good to not seek something that you know you will put to bad use. You may not be as corrupt as you think

Sure it does. But just somebody need extremely high power to corrupt while some only need fairly little. I don't know how much I would end up with but my belief is that everything has a price tag. Somebody refuse to admit while some discuss it openly. Sometimes it is a very high price tag that is virtually impossible to achieve while sometimes it is nothing.

People deny because they want to look good from the others so they say that they cannot be bought or there are things that cannot be bought. I just think we should be honest to our own self and at least not lie to ourselves.

Yes I think so too. People try to deny that everything has a price tag but in the end they are just lying to themselves.

I do not know if I am corruptible. I am not a very important person. I have very little power and money. There have been attempts to corrupt me when I was younger and had more clout. I was always able to resist. However, there was retaliation against me because I would not do the bidding of some. If I were important or wanted to be important, I do not know. A lot of good and decent people who did not begin corrupted have gotten corrupted. I do not believe that I would ever become powerful because I am pretty honest and sincere. I find it hard to do wrong to others, even those whom I do not like. Do people like me end up in power?

I live in Texas and there is not much help here for those in need. Some states do better with social services. You do not want to be poor or low income or in need in Texas. if you have money here, you have the best life imaginable but if you don't, I wish you luck. But there have also been a lot of success stories in Texas. People have been very poor but have worked hard or gotten lucky and made a lot of money, even wealth.

I guess there is always hope to gain success but it is sad that there are not many people helping the needy there.

I think that it is not normal for people like you to end up in power. I think that is a bad thing since those in power should help the ones who are in need. However they are not sincere enough to do this.

yeah, i would say i am. i'm very easily led too, which is a really bad thing. don't get me wrong, i'm not a sheep, and if something is very wrong, either ethically or morally or whatever, i won't do it.. but if there is something i dont think is right, i can be talked into it :(

Humankind has similarity, tend to abuse power. I am not so sure I can avoid all the thing that I classify as corruption (wasting time in workplace could be a corruption also). May be I can afford to say no to corruption involving money, it is easy when you have power to reject such request. But, no one 100% perfect, I can only make them minimum and to the limit of available rules. The most important is we accept what God given us, do not look more, especially from illegal activity. It is cliche but that is the way I walk at.

I see what you are saying. It is easier to reject such requests when you have power. So in a sense the more power you have the harder it becomes for someone to corrupt you but at the same time "power corrupts". So power can be a good or a bad thing in relation to corruptibility.

It is a double edged sword. Power can be used for good thing and evil thing. It is all depend on us. We use it for good thing, then it is called a wisdom. We use it for evil thing, then it is called greed.

People are all the same inside. If a person is given power, the easy and broad path will lead to corruption. Only if you have a high moral standard and are very diligent in guarding your standards will you have a chance to avoid slipping. It is even better if you have a close friend that shares your standards. They will be able to see those first steps toward compromise.

I believe that everyone has their price. It may not be money or power but there is something everyone of us would do anything we could to keep. This doesn't mean there are no hero types, it just means that their price was not offered.

i think no matter what care or honest you did your part to your country, but the people will always find an error and claimed that the present in-power there are a corrupt its a thinkers are doers situation. or CAPRICORN is compatible to LEO while CAPRICORN is not compatible to SCORPIO here in our country, the problem always blame the government for whatever project that did not finish maybe it is true that there are no stupid students but only stupid instructors but, there are plenty of leaders that are very faithful too in their country or nation.

I think you are right, many times it is just the opinion of a person that a leader is corrupt. It may not be true.

part of the problem is that those who are most attracted to power are either the most corrupted or the most corruptible, and it is a hard task to sort out the uncorruptible person who seeks power from the corruptible one. i don't really know if given power whether i would be corrupted or not, obviously i would prefer to believe that i wouldn't be, but the reality may not live up to my hopes.

I don't think I will change if I have power or a lot of money which is power again. I am who I am. The only thing that will change is that more people are knowing me and don't like what I am saying. People prefer the lies above the truth. So no doubts somebody will come to shoot me. I don't have the intentions or need to be in the centre of all attention. For those, leaders of a country for example or owners of a multi national it's different. So they will be corrupt if this can make them win and don't care about 1 or a million lies as long as they get what they want.

It is sad to say but yes everybody has a price. Not every one is motivated by money but everyone is motivated by something if you can find what that something is then you can corrupt them. Some people are easier to corrupt then others but everyone can be gotten to.

Yes, i think I am corruptible. I admit I'm not perfect and I am not all good. We, as people, have a bad side as well. Though, if i were ever given the power, it would be boring to hug it all to myself. Surrounding myself with power hungry people won't make me happy. I've seen and experienced hardships, blame it on those corrupt government officials who secretly take money and use it for their own pleasure. I find those people horrible, i don't want to be like them. I'll use my power and possibly abuse, only those who are being bad and useless. XD

I agree with the saying, but it also depends upon the personality and the situations, i have taught in colleges for over 46 years, i was principal for several years and head of department for several years too, i had many persons working under me.. Many tried to take advantage, but i never declined.. Thanks for this discussion Have a nice day ahead. Professor ‘@Bhuwan@’. .
