Romanticizing Satan

Now here's a spin on the whole Biblical story that I just don't understand. I mean, I understand people who just don't believe in the Bible. I can even understand believing in the Bible, but not accepting everything a person thinks it teaches. However, I don't understand the concept of believing Satan can be anything someone could look up to. According to the Bible, Lucifer was a high ranking angel. At some point, Lucifer tried to overthrow God. 1/3 of the "hosts of heaven" joined him in his war. Because they tried to overthrown heaven, they were banished... Lucifer's name was changed to Satan and the rest is history. Now Satan and his demons are continuing that war here on earth. Their one goal is to destroy as many of us as they can. Now, again, if you don't believe there ever was a God, a heaven or a Lucifer, I can see now accepting the story. I can even understand why people would mock it. What I don't understand are the people who have romanticized Satan, actually seeing him as some equivalent of the US Founding Fathers. News Flash, rebellion isn't necessarily a good thing! Bigger News Flash, if you really believe Satan rebelled against God, then what you are considering some rebel hero is out to do you harm! One more time. I understand that people who think the whole story is bunk might see him as some symbol in their anti religion/spirituality philosophy. Most Lucifarians I've talked to would fall in this category. I'm talking about the people who believe that Satan exists, and that he did try to overthrow God... and think he's someone worth looking up to anyway.

The big difference between Satan's rebellion and the rebellion of our Founding Fathers is the reason they rebelled. Satan did it for his own glory and ego. The Founding Fathers did it to free themselves and others from tyranny. You have to remember that Satan is the "father of lies." The biggest liar that ever was. Some he seduces to think that he is a hero, others, he seduces to think that he doesn't even exist. I can't help but feel sorry for people who don't realize the evil that is playing with them.

That's why I can understand the people who just don't believe Satan exists. That's not hard to imagine.. especially if you don't accept the Bible in the first place. But to know who Satan is, and what he's doing, and still consider it a good thing?

Ted, to put it succinctly, he lies to them. He convinces them that he isn't as bad as God says he is. He lies to them about God. People are gullible. There are Christians who don't believe in Satan. Again, he is the father of lies - the liar of all time. Subtle, cunning and crafty.

You seem to be in deep reflection mode today. Lucifer is a mystery to everyone but I don't know why anyone would romanticize him. You might like a book by Taylor Caldwell called Dialogues with the Devil. I read it decades ago and it made such an impression on me. It gave a different dimension to the monster I was raised to believe in and explained so much of the evil in the world today. Look it up on Amazon and read the reviews, you might enjoy it. Any library will have it. I think people romanticize the devil because they want to trivialize the evil within themselves or justify the bad things they want to do. People hate guilt and if they can avoid it with certain beliefs they will go with that.

I'll check it out. And I agree, rationalization is one of our most powerful motivators.

That would be puzzling, just as there are people who still look up to Hitler and embrace his beliefs as well. I think it has to do with the rebellious nature we seem to all have. Some just carry it way overboard and past what you and I consider logical.

Well, even the people who are sick enough to look up to Hitler know he's not coming after them. The people I'm talking about know what Satan is up to, and still consider him some kind of hero or roll model.

Some people like to rebel. Many do things for the shock factor. They will say and do anything to rattle you. See them for what they are. Next, one should never question those religious stories. If you do, you will discover that they are only stories. Who says you can't branch the story in any direction you want?? I guess it's no worse than writing the story to begin with. Consider, if 1/3 of God's people rebel, that means God isn't too good of a leader. That makes God not so perfect in my eyes except for the fact that religious stories are nothing more than stories. Don't believe them. People can have all kinds of beliefs that couldn't be true because, just like you point out, they don't add up. The real truth and everything about God Always adds up.

Satan is another god world.Because of his pride, rebellion against God he become the god of this world and people who does not beieve the exisstence of God worship him.and that is true and can see and know that there are many today.. People today still mockeing, saying names of God because they donn't believe Him but to Satan alone..that is kind of evil spirit. For me,what ever persecutions i have because of GOD i stand for Him.

Hi ParaTed2k, An interesting discussion and I must admit that after some sixty years of studying the Bible,I have no idea why anyone would want to romanticize Satan. Although God is not always portrayed in a good light, Satan never is at all. Personally, I think that the majority of Biblical stories are myths passed down over thousands of years, but even in that context, it would seem strange to think of the devil as someone you would want to follow. I believe in a universal intelligence and that life cannot be destroyed but believe also that Jesus taught a way of life. Blessings.
