Hello, Scheen! I am glad to know that you have passion for learning new words. If I were you, I would also be proud of myself because it is an achievement! Here are my tips. I hope these can help. 1. Buy a notebook, and make a list of words together with their meanings. You may also include the month, day, and year when you learn those words. Group the words according to language, part of speech, and the like. This is also for your convenience. Anyway, the most important point here is you're going to make a list of these new words. 2. As much as possible, always use the new words in conversation and in writing. 3. Make a review every week so that you'll not forget the words you learn. Familiarize yourself with the words and their meanings. It is expected that you cannot remember all the words in your list. It is normal. The main point here is you can recall most of them for future use. You can also have a monthly review. It depends upon you whichever suits you better.

This is a sound advice. I would add just this: don't make a long list in the beginning, just add new words when you feel confident that you know how to use the previous ones. Be patient and every time you add a new word to the list, review the previous ones, trying to construct new sentences every time. An individual word is difficult to remember but if constantly put them in context, you will be able to remember them.

Learning new vocabulary can be a very joyful activity, to learn a new word the best is like to take pictures of the action, or the object in your brain. Your motivation has to be you saying, "I want to remember these words." Then you need to start to review 24 hours after you've first made the connections, and spot-check, and it then becomes assimilated in your mind. Then as you use the words, or recognize them in your reading or your vocabulary as you're speaking, you're going to find the reinforced impression, as it becomes part of your thinking mechanism. But keep in mind: review, review, review after you've made the connections. Keep in mind that you want to have fun, and continue to be motivated towards gaining a fantastic vocabulary. Vocabulary words and definitions is to bring the unfamiliar word to the definition; lock the two together. For example you're learning the word 'assuage'. Assuage sounds like a massage. And see a big 'm' in front of the 'a' and that gives you massage. Assuage. Massage. Which means to take away pain; to soothe; to calm.Or you see a word like 'slake', s-l-a-k-e, and that's a simple word. Lake is within the word slake. Slake means to quench or to satisfy so you want to see people drinking and satisfying down by the slake. Lake. Slake. But when you come with a very abstract word like 'noisome', n-o-i-s-o-m-e, it means a foul smell. You might notice n-o-s-e within the word. We smell through the nose. But a little more dramatic association: you see somebody holding a skunk and he says, "does this annoy some?" Skunk annoys some. Get the picture? Now when you take a word like 'eschew', it means to avoid. So I want you to see this picture: somebody is ducking and avoiding the shoe. Shoe. Avoid. Get the picture? Make it a game of learning and have fun improving your vocabulary

When I hear a word, I will try to keep it in mind by making relation to other things...Or I will make a sentence in my own language...And I will remember that word...Every day we studies at least a word...Some times,I will write the all words that I learn every day....The language is not a matter... English, Hindi, malayalam, sanskrit,Tamil what ever it is...I will make a description in my mind first...Then try to remember in reverse...But if I can't recollect that,I will search the meaning again...And try to make a example for that....A small example or sentence that simply give the meaning...And read that notes in a period.... That will help you to remember the words forever... Try this...It will work... Thank you....

I agree with you totally scheen...I love learning new words also but I've realized that if you don't use them as often as you can until they are a regular part of your vocabulary.they seem to drift..Its like anything else if you done use it you will eventually lose it..

I used to volunteer in a nursing home and there were many different nationalities there, so I got a little book that I would carry around with me and I made it a project to be able to say "hello" ineach language and every time I went there I would practice by saying hello to each of the residents in their language..I am the first to admit I do not have a good memory but at the time I got quite good at remembering all my hellos and it would make people so happy to here a familiar hello.

I am passionate about learning new language. I added that the best way to keep the words in your mind was just by saying it as often as possible.

It's a good thing that you are open to the idea of always learn because learning is not just for kids but for every one. We are not born to be genius, so as we grow and become old we still have many things to learn. In your case, it will be hard for you to remember especially when you are not using it in your day-to-day living,so better yet, have a note, take it down and use it and teach others. Teaching means sharing what you have learn will also help you in retaining those words.

Hi. You must be so proud of learning new words. And in order not to forget them, you may apply them in conversations which may be suitable for the word you've learned. I'm also fund of learning new words though reading books and I feel happy every time I am able to broaden up my vocabulary.
