Discount from a medical store

I came across a medical shop group which offers discount of 10% on medicines. When we buy medicine for Rs.1000 we get a discount of Rs.100 and it is a sizable amount.($2). I told about this to a friend of mine. He said that there is another super market agency offering 14% discount straight away. In fact I for one would like to tell others whatever I enjoy--sometimes others do not seem to like it. Do you share such information with others so that others can also get the benefit or you retain the information with you only.? I know there may be varying responses.

its good to share the information as many will like to have the offer and use the discount,What ever may be a little price down people will like to buy there as now a days every thing is such a high price and we are really struggling to cut down the costs ,so its good to share the information like this.So that mamny will go and buy in that shop for medicines. It would do good business to that shop also. However i dont know why people place such discounts and offers. It is just to make their business more and mroe increase ,Mainly the stores who place for the first time they offer such things as they want everyone to know that a new shop is opened and they want customers to their shops also.

Umabharti--Nowadays the price of medicines has gone up very much. Both of us myself and my wife have been prescribed medicines for BP and cholesterol which we have to take regularly and the total cost is 2.5K+ per month along with the vitamin tablets which are to be taken along with the medicines. Under this context "Medplus" (I think they have shops in Vizag) also. Please see this link--this will be of use for people in India. http://www.medplusindia.com/

From my observation, I don't think too many people do that [keeping such useful information from others] unless it relates to a controlled commodity or a dole out but not in the case of those freely available. On the contrary, people, especially womenfolk will always be too eager to share with others to prove how wise they happen to be. Yes, the customer psyche in cases where commodities are in short supply and are sold under controlled quota may prompt them to take pains to ensure not too many people get the information. For example, a Company may decide to offer limited shares under employees' quota. In such a case, people who are working in corporate office may not freely share information across all locations. I am trying to cite more instances but it doesn't strike me at this moment. May be if it hits my mind, I'll return to add it to the comment. Have a good time.

Thanks for giving some strange information--I do not invest in shares and I am not familiar with these. the one I am referring to is for day to day usage and will be of use for us because the price of medicines has gone up heavily in the recent past. http://www.medplusindia.com/ I am sure there must be a similar shop in your city/town also. have a good day.

First up, it is a great virtue when you share useful information for others to benefit. I do not invest in shares either. About shares, it is just information/knowledge I learnt because I always welcome & look for good thoughts from wherever they come-like our Upanishads say 'Let Noble Thoughts Come to Us from Everywhere. It is called ESOP for Employee Stock Option. Companies reserve a part of the public offer of equity shares for their employees, which is useful for employees if they are highly valuable shares and there is severe competition. The great Indian story of very very ordinary people who's sons and daughters were lucky to get Infosys shares and could sell them during peak, made lakhs of rupees that helped them build a home and meet other needs which they would never have dreamed of. The point I'm trying to make in the case of MedPlus is that first of all, they incur big overheads for creating a flashy store and then they are air conditioned. They build it all in their overheads. If as a boost for their sales, they offer a discount, may be they are taking a small dip in their profit but they still gain. It is just like big brands whose dresses in super malls are priced very high & unaffordable for most of us offering to sell at discounts. Normal medical stores may not publicize big discounts but they offer reasonable prices and where feasible, nominal discounts too. So this particular instance of discount may not in reality benefit in terms of lowering medical bills. I could be completely wrong and I welcome correction. But market dynamics tells us businessmen will only be businessmen. Thanks for keeping interest in discussion.

In this case it results in gain of 10% that means nearly Rs.200 per month . It is because medicines are manufactured by reputed companies and the same medicine is sold in different pharmacies. Under this context when we get 10% discount it is a gain for the buyer. thanks

Hi ravisivan: I think I would just share it when I see the opportunity and I have found that this person actually wants to buy this product. I don't see why one should retain such an important information when it can benefit someone who needs it. ALVARO

starsailover - 1) posessiveness -- I should only get all the benefits and my friends and neighbours should not enjoy such privileges. 2)a sort of envy on seeing others benefitted or for them such discounts are not BIG. After my telling about to this to many others out of that 20% people tell me discounts higher than this. thanks for your response. have a nice day.

I have a friend who is the wife of a doctor and I know that I am very fortunate. She was giving us vitamins and medicines for the kids, me and my husband and even for my in-laws and of course a free medical check up. In case when there is no sample medicines for my in-laws, she gives us discount cards/coupons which is comparatively higher than what they enjoy from the senior citizen discount card. And yes, I share discount coupons with others.

Yap, Ravisian. Actually, its not only through medicines but when shopping as well. If i found out that there is a sale in one store, I immediately told it to my friends for them to avail it especially if it is a grocery item. And I do learn something from them too, like a brand of laundry soap which is not so expensive and popular but has a good quality.

Hi Sivan, I think it's right if you share with others the things which can benefit them too. It's a good decision. Actually one should try to be open with the others. That's a signal of trust to them. It's possible that there are some who doesn't like to hear whatever one enjoy and it depends how and what you tell about that information.

True -- we must tell such information to people for whom it matters. I for one feels happy when I can save Rs.100 ($2) on a purchase of Rs.1000($20). For a few others it may not be appreciable amount. We have to be selective in giving information also. good day. thanks.

I do the same. I share something that I feel would help or made friends happy. I understand that, sometimes instead of hearing a good response, we got a bad result. That's how other people behaves ...

I love sharing information especially if it involves saving even a little bit of money. What good is that information to me? It is not like I can get more discounts if I keep it to myself, or that I am going to lose the discount if I tell others.

zralte -- You are right. We do not lose any money by sharing info about such discounts. On the contrary the shopkeeper may have increased sales and it will be good for us. have a nice day.

Hello ravisivan, Yes there is huge margins on medicines so they might have kept 10% discounts on purchase of medicines from his shop no doubt 10% is sizeable amount.I do share such informations with others and think there is no harm in sharing it as it helps others too and take nothing away from us but yes there are people too who don't share such information in jealousy.
