Frugal Upside Down Molasses - Just set the jug upside down on top of a drinking glass and you'll probably et about a half a cup of molasses :-)

I know most of us set out ketchup bottles upside down when the ketchup gets low, but what about molasses? We buy those big jugs as Hubby loves ginger spice cookies and so I came up with a good idea, which is to set the molasses jug upside down overnight on a drinking glass. It turns out to yeild a half a cup of molasses that I've had wasted every other time! Awesome.

I've always been a person that absolutely hates to waste anything, and, yes, that does mean that I hate to waste Ketchup and salad dressing and even shampoo. I will turn the bottles upside down for all of these things. The most recent one that I've done is flipping bottles of clothes detergent upside down so that I don't waste any of that either. The fact is that packages are getting a little bit smaller and we want to be able to get everything that we can out of those smaller packages.

You're right, the packages are getting smaller and we pay more. I buy in bulk from bulk stores so I'll save a bit of money anyway.

I think most frugal people do this for many products. Its one of the things I have been doing for many years. You can save quite a bit of money by doing this regularly.

Hello Masih. If you put a little cooking spray in the glass more of it will slide out of the glass easier too. I do this when ever I have to measure any thing sticky like honey or syrup. It works great and I get the full measure and don't leave any thing behind.

That's a good idea, I'll have to purchase some spray.

I tend to prefer the top down jars for that reason. Thick syrups etc seem to stick to the sides of the jars, I have done what you did in turning it over and collecting what pours out, but since I normally buy smaller sizes had never realized how much you can still get from these 'empty' bottles. I noticed that if I added a little water to my empty softener bottle I would get enough for an extra two washes - found this out by accident as I was washing some clothes and the softener had run out so I thought to try it out and was surprised that not only did it work but I barely noticed a difference in the clothing. I don't know much molasses your biscuits use but it would be interesting if you could make a batch from basically what would have gone out.

Well, a small batch of my ginger spice cookies would require 2/3 cup of molasses, so I'd probably get away with a half a cup. But since it's the holiday season, I tend to make quadruple the amount at a time, and I have another big jug to open, I'll be using that plus more from my new jug.

I even do that for pasta sauces when I'm making spahgetti or the alike I turn the bottle over just to get that last bit of sauce. Why not I paid for it no point in washing it down the drain?

We purchase the cans, so I end up using the spatula to get out the sauce at the bottom.

Ya, I thought of this the other day as I was just about finished the last of the molasses and I didn't feel like wasting any that might have stuck to the sides.

Sounds like a great idea..we do that with everything to get the last of things or to get enough to come out that we need. but as the saying goes waste not want not..My granny would put things in a warm bowl or pan of water to get it flowing and then turn it upside down..makes it flow faster when you need in a hurry.

I guess I do that for all sticky liquids. That includes my bathroom thingies like shampoo, conditioner and body wash. And if the bottle is almost empty, I put water and shake and out come all the good stuff (I dilute my shampoo anyway).

I buy in bulk because it's cheaper that we, we buy concentrated laundry soap at a discounted price and they're pretty big bottles (6x concentrate) and now they're sitting upside down in the bathroom to see if I can get the last 50ml out.

I tend to do that with the majority of kitchen bottles (such as ketchup, chocolate syrup, mustard, jam) you'd be surprise how much you get from them, when you do that.
