Well, I just want share my feelings right now.I just came from an 8 hour duty from the hospital that i am working as a staff nurse. I am so tired because we had 3 patients who are on blood transfusion. I transfused all of them and I got tired with the monitoring activity. add to that, i was so drained because all of them had their flow rates so slow because the whole blood was so sticky.i had to go back from time to time so that the blood components will not clog the tubing.that was very physically demanding.good thing our patient with a colostomy was discharged earlier.he would have messed around while I was on my blood transfusion monitoring.

nice to hear from you nebel. it was yesterday when I transfused blood. today, all of them were fairly okay.none had to receive blood transfusions but the sad thing is that one of my patients have a tumor seen in his abdomen via Abdominal ultasound. it has kept her being anemic for a time since the tumor mass creates internal bleeding. she is now advised to have surgery.

hi carl It sounds like a really exhausting day for you. Good thing you can still find time visiting mylot even when you are already tired. Have you been working as a nurse for a long time?

Mylot has been a home to me eversince i started to become active again here. i love staying here because i can voice out whatever i feel especially when it relates to my work as a nurse. I have been actively practicing my profession for more than a year now. i am glad that i reached this long enough because being a nurse needs too much patience and sacrifice. not to mention also the physical demands of this profession. you have to stay awake all night just to render service and care to those who are sick.

hello phill.yes, i am a Filipino too and i am currently working in a private hospital. the workload you encounter in the public hospital is in no way different than that of a public hospital. as long as there are sick people, the workload will always be the same.it will just depend on how you perceive the context on where you are working.in our hospital, i can have as many 50 patients in our ward and only two nurses will give care for an eight-hour shift. that is the same volume of patients you will take care in most public hospitals.

I can understand you I can't imagine myself in your position (or anyone working in this field). Dealing with different people you really need to be very patient and understanding. It's good that mylot serves as your outlet. You're also a Filipino right? Are you working in a private or public hospital? I think working in a private owned Hospital is much easier/better than in Public hospital? is it true?

It sounds like you have had a really exhausting shift so I hope you can take it easy and get some rest today. That is a lot of responsibility.

I am really exhausted after my shift. My legs were cramping and my eyes has started to get blurry. good thing i was able to have a one hour rest before i went home. what could have happened if all of the 3 patients reacted to the blood components? it would have been a topsy turvy world.LOL! a lot of responsibility indeed.

Tiring day indeed. My aunt wanted me to be a nurse before. But I am really scared of blood or seeing wounded people. What more if I am a nurse. I think I won't be able to work without puking everyday.

hello enelym. i have fear in needles in bllod too. everytime i undergo blood extractions for my complete blood count determination, i usually faint after the blood extraction.as i grew up, i overcome that fear though. when i entered college, i never thought of that fear because in my mind, i wanted to be a doctor and to be a nurse is a good pre-medical course.

I think I can understand you, which department are you working in? I remember my 12-h shifts at the ER. Phlebotomy after phlebotomy with 40+ patients a day, but I suppose transfusion is much more harder, although I never did it.

hello there.at the time i started this discussion, i was assigned to take a post as a ward nurse.it was then that i was able to transfuse blood to many of my patients.currently, i am assigned in the emergency department of our hospital.i am a month and 2 days old as an emergency room staff nurse.at first, i was hesitant to do intravenous insertions but right now i can say that i improved on that skill.on your part, 40+ patients a day is too numerous.i guess you are working in a government hospital.
