Hai mylotters.... I slept in Yoga class before two days...We don't have interest to attend that class...But our principal forced us and told that's compulsory..As a part of physical education, we were practicing yoga in our college for two hours in a day per week..Sir taught us that how to practice Shavasana/savasana. That is a basic step in yoga practice...We were really interested to do that...Sir told us to do several steps before shavasana...So we did all other things...At last, He told us to lay on the floor and get ready for shavasana..We obeyed him and he began to make us relaxing by saying some thing...I was very tired and I didn't remembered that I am in college...I don't remember anything about that...After some times, I got a beat by someone...I slowly opened my eyes..Then looked...Oh god...My class mates...friends...sir etc...I wake up suddenly from floor and stood up...Oh my god...It was a horrible moment that I ever faced in my Life...All of them were laughing at me....My friends teased me ..I was really feeling shy at that time...All of them were laughing when they hear about the incident...What do you think???Did you ever had such situations????? I am waiting eagerly to know that.... :-) :-)

Do not feel bad. When I take classes in Engineering college I use to see some students sleeping in the last few rows. Possibly because they all study throughout the night that they get sleep. Regarding sleeping in yoga classes towards the end -- I have also slept in yoga classes after doing yoga for the first few minutes. I appreciate you for sharing this information boldly to others. good day.

Not quite the same. But.. my best friend in nursing school always fell asleep after lunch in anatomy class. She got into trouble once for falling asleep. But she worked at night all night long and then went to school all day. I always gave her my notes because she wouldn't have made it without them. She couldn't help.. after lunch she always fell asleep.

When I was young -- that is of your age -- we use to go to bed at 9 pm and sleep till 6 am --9 hours. You see present day children you people sleep only for 5 or 6 hours only. I suggest if possible go to bed by 10 pm and sleep till 5 or 6 am.

Back in 1980 when I was a college student staying in a hostel me & my friend had joined the yoga classes out of our own interest. We used to walk almost three kilometers to get to the yoga school, early mornings. There would be about 20-22 people even in the early morning batch. There would be warming up, surya namaskaras, other asanas and finally savasana. Almost 20 of the 22 would doze off doing savasana. It was then up to the instructor to play a devotional number on a tape recorder to gently get every one out of slumber. But one thing is for sure, if done perfectly, it can provide excellent relaxation, equivalent of six hours of sound sleep!

hi dassodils well I have read how relaxing yoga can be so I guess whem you are tired and your instructor is telling you to relax, you took him at his word.oh my but you fell asleep how embarrassing for you, I was not in a yoga class but a film as literature class. the teacher had darkened the room so as to show us this film. I felt tired so sat back in my chair and the next thing I knew, I was being poked by the student behind me. . He whispered" wake up Mrs. Hatley you were snoring." Oh my Gosh I felt so stupid and embarrassed too as half the class was giggling at me for galling asleep and actually snoring. So you are not alone in falling asleep in a class. I do feel for you.

I wish I had had yoga when I was in school. Ofcourse that was before the invention of the wheel so that's probably why. I used to sleep through my first class when in highschool. It was History and not a very exciting class. Life gets better than yoga class and practicing Shavasana.

Hi Dassodils, Take plenty of fresh water atleast one hour before every Yoga class. Thereafter you will not get any sleepness during your yoga class. It is a researched advice.

Sufficient water intake increases our metabolism and air intake in our body. That means more oxygen to the brain. As a result, our brain will be more active while doing the yoga.

Sometimes, it happens. Sabasan is susch a relaxing erercise, if you are tired, you will fell asleep while doing the Sabasanas. But, your mind could have been in your control. Our mind never sleeps. It will react. But as it did not happen, really you were tired and it could have been accepted by your class teacher...........It depends...man to man. Do not worry.

What about the next class? Did you find your class mates laughing at you or your yoga teacher commenting something upon you? I think you became concious and that is the gain we get from our past experience.

I know exactly what you mean about Yoga, that's one of the reason why I personally don't do it either. When it comes to excercising I need something to motivate me to move and get energized. Yoga is more of a relaxing type of thing. when I attempted to do it on a few occassions 5 out 10 classes I ended up dozzing off and almost falling asleep. Luckily it was a group of friends with me so it wasn't so embarrassing. But trust me I know the feeling.

I can see how a person could fall asleep during yoga. Especially if you are doing it for two hours straight. That is a long time for yoga. I guess you could say that the yoga worked for you since you were so relaxed that you fell asleep. I took a yoga class a few years ago but it wasn't relaxing at all until the last 10 minutes of the class.

I've only had the opportunity to do an actual yoga class twice in my life, so I will say that I've never fallen asleep during them, but I will say that I can see how it would be easy to do, especially if you were tired. The reason that I say that is because while doing the positions you get completely focused on yourself and then at the end you have to relax and just let everything go and that does make it a lot easier to fall asleep.

Hi Dassodils: What a pretty shame. Well it can happen to anyone, specially when you felt that tired. Just try to be more concetrated on your yoga classes. Yoga can be really interesting and it's an amazing practice for your body and your health. ALVARO

I guess it would be easy to fall asleep during yoga seince it is so relaxing. They wouldnt be allowed to force yoga in a school in the USA but I have fell asleep many times in class. In the types of schools I was in though nobody cared I once found the gym teacher sleeping, he was laughing stock of the school for that one though.

That's what I call a relaxing yoga class:) I've never been in such situation.I have fallen asleep in a bus or in the train but never fell asleep like that.Maybe I just can't relax so much or I am never that tired.I know it is very easy for some people to fall asleep and they can sleep everywhere and anytime. But not me.
