It seems that now a days we simply cannot complete a sentence without using colloquial, sometimes slang words. Have you noticed it? Do you think that the social networking sites have any role in it?

You are going to blame social networking for slang words? Why? This kind of thing has been going on for years. Way before computers and social networking. There is always slangs being made up all the time. And if you go back in time, you will notice that every generation has it's own slang words.

Though there are a lot more abbreviations that are used because of social media and also the use of SMS messaging, I really don't think that these things are the reasons that there are so many slang words that are used. The reason that I believe this is the case is because of the fact that I've used a lot of slang words throughout my life and I never even had access to SMS messaging until I was in my mid twenties and didn't have access to social media until about that time either.

Colloquial and slang word have been in use for ages and social networking sites are not responsible for them.Yes, one always gets to know new slang words as one interacts with more and more peole from other countries. As a matter of fact the world dictionaries like Oxford and Webster have included and are including every year many new words which had come into existence recently. However what has spoilt peoples command over the English languade is the overuses of Short Message Texting or sms which one finds people using even they are writing normal prose. This will weaken the language since nowadays even small children have taken to sms on their cell phones.

I think just being social has alot to do with this. Keeping up with ones peers when a teen is very important and probably lends into it. Using the cool slang and being in with the in crowd is always something young people want. To fit in. Chatting and communicating in a way that is comfortable.

i think social networking sites have something to do about it. as we all know that it is so easy to broadcast anything and in just a split of a second, millions may be able to see what you broadcasted.this is so true with slang words. we can easily spread it through social networking sites.

I do not use those slang words when writing maybe sometimes when speaking and depending with whom Iam speaking too. I am always careful on the type of language I use and whether it is appropriate for the event or type of audience.

No , don't blame social network , blame us Americans And the English language. English is one of the hardest languages to learn because there are always new words being added. Us Yanks Love adding new slang words. These words and phrases are fun to use so we use them. Now what you can blame on social media is that these phrases can go viral so quickly. But even if there were no internet , we Americans would start using new phrases.

I personally do not use slang language in these social networks. I think that my friends do not. However, I do not blame anyone that has a language that we echast of our culture. I do not blame the social networking site that has any bearing on whether or not to use jargon. Have a nice day!
