Idealist is person searching for deeper meaning in life, believe in Ideals and leads life influenced by principles and ideals. Realist is person guided more by practical considerations. For realist, ideals are impractical and unrealistic. People with creative talents like writers, painters, poets and leaders with vision are likely to be idealist. Common man struggling to live within means is realist to varying degrees. So, Are you idealist or realist? Which is more appropriate way to lead one's life according to you? Share your views. Thank you.

I am a realist. Sometimes I tell lies or do not tell truths for getting things done. We always tell children about not telling lies and not doing wrong things. But we have to tell them how to get over a difficult situation,. yes. I am a realist and I do not expect 100% accuracy in various situations.

I agree. It's not easy to be absolute idealist when others are corrupt around you. But we can always try to follow ideals in our lives as much as possible. Thanks for sharing your views. Cheers!

This is a difficult world from some aspects. We want people to go inside the bus before our getting in. After getting into the bus many of us do not move in and give place for others. Also rules are different for us and for others. Idealism is a very difficult thing to achieve. Right from birth there are differences -- some are born rich and some are born poor --some children are born with deficiencies and some children are born with extra intelligence. For that matter differentiation is initiated by God even in our birth. So we have to accept that and run with handicaps.

I am a realist as far as mundane issues are concerned and are essential for day to day living with appreciation of hard realities; yet, I am an idealist in the hope that tomorrow will be a better day for all of us on earth. If there were no idealists, I think this universe will not evolve into a better place. Idealistic need not be equated with hollow, unrealistic vision but has to be treated on par with optimism. Similarly, realism should not make us creep & crawl with cynicism with a sense of can't help with things; this is the way they will be. A good example of idealistic pursuit is hoping to end the menace of corruption and ensure probity in public life. Crusaders like Anna Hazare in India are making it possible that people who matter, take notice of peoples' sentiments and stem the rot. Still way to go, but..

I agree with you. Idealists hold out hope for better tomorrow. Idealists have been instrumental is leading all mass movements and defining changes in history that have contributed to improving lot of society. Yes, it is tough to be absolute idealist in daily life but this should not stop us from trying. Thanks for sharing your views so beautifully. Have a nice day, Cheers!

Hello there... I'm, at heart, an idealist... But the life makes me a realist. I mean, I've my ideals, rules and principles and I'm gonna pursue them. But the cruelty of real life makes me a realist who must struggle with day to day problems.. It is all confusing...

Yes it seems all confusing at times. We would like to believe we are idealists. But to survive in this world sadly sometimes ideals are not enough. One has to be realist at times for sure. Thanks for sharing your views. Have good day, Cheers!

So idealist is something that actually believe in stuffs and realist a person that is stuck to reality in my and i think in this opinion . If its like that i'm Idealistic about love and thats pretty much it , the rest is reality and i get hit by it every day and i just cant ignore it ;) So i think i'm more of Realist person , but well we cant be perfectly on one side of those can we :)

realist or idealist, and frankly I like both. frankly idealist means to have dreams, ideals, wanting everything to be perfectly on track. If you are a realist when thinking about the reality of what needs to happen for what it's supposed to happen. if you can not afford to dream. Have a nice day!

Yes difficult to choose just one. Dreams are important. When you dream, you want to make those dreams comes true and so pursue those dreams. Likewise ideals can help shape your thinking or lifestyle but in our daily lives, to survive practical considerations have to be taken into account. Thanks for your sharing your opinion. Have a good day, Cheers!

Those are loaded labels and can mean different things at different time. In some situations I will tend to be an idealist. However, I am also a realist, meaning not only an optimist, and also in the sense that principles are not always held to. I think we definitely need the insights and perspectives of both realists and idealists. Although it might be difficult to do, they need to listen to each other. The idealists can become so intense about sticking to ideals and principles, that they forget to care for the people involved. On the other hand, a realist can become so involved in dealing with a reality of a situation, they totally forget the principles that might have led to a much better outcome. I do think people will be on both sides sometimes, depending on the issues involved.

I think whether you are idealist or realist, it takes all kinds of people to make the world a better place. I might not agree with all my friends thinking but it makes them who they are. I think all people are born with some kind of talent but some do not use it to their advantage and some do not know what their talent is unless faced in a situation to find that talent. I believe everyone was put on this universe to do something. I have been through two failed marriages so obviously marriage was not my calling LOL. I do at this time take care of my father who has parkinsons and alzehemeirs.... so maybe that was my calling.

I think I am a bit of both. We are fed with so many stories about good and movies too show the victory of good over evil that it is not possible for anybody to be absolutely without any ideals. Most people would like to be idealistic but circumstances make them otherwise. Once they compromise, they do know for themselves their failing and so do not hesitate to compromise the next time. The first time it is difficult, it gets easier with time to compromise. Still, periodically, knowing about people like those on Anna Hazareji's team, we do retrace a few steps. In my case, I would say - I compromise (become realist) only when my survival is at risk - for example work environment - if I dont bribe I cant get the work moving and eventually lose job, which I need kind of thing. Recently, I did compromise but to test myself whether I am still capable of achieving as much as I used to - something of a reassurance effort after having left the job almost 5 years ago. Was not happy with that, of course. So I gave all that money I got by doing that to charity. My conscience however does not relieve me. It says what if somebody else needed it more than where you eventually gave it.

I think I'm more of a realist. I'm always the first to shut someone down for being stupid & unrealistic. I like getting things done, and if something is unrealistic, I don't want to waste my time. But if I do find myself stuck doing a project the night before, and start losing hope, I turn to being more of an idealist so that I have some type of motivation. The world needs idealists to influence humans to aim high and move forward, but the world also needs realists to point out the obvious and make sure stupid people don't become blinded by their "big dreams".

Hello there.I am both an idealist and a realist. I am an idealist because i strive to work within the principles of correct and standard practice. i notify my workmates if i see something that is done outside the correct principles. in my personal life, i am strict when it comes to etiquettes. i am a realist also. i decided to be a nurse because it is the demand of the times. i live meagerly because i just earn enough.

I think I am realist because I try to live with my feet on the ground, and not to make me goals that I can't reach. The idealist live with a zero stress life, I don't time for that I hav to live day by day and reach the goals of the day not thinking things are not going to help in my present.
