Not sure if this topic falls under this category. But anyway... When my mom was still young (grade or HS school maybe) she said she had witnessed how her uncle (my grandmother’s brother in-law) healed people that have been hexed. She never wants to believe in such thing. But she has witnessed most of the people who came to him to ask for help. Her uncle didn't ask for money, he just helped this people and upon whispering some Latin words in an instant the person will slowly goes back to its normal state or appearance. When her uncle started to cheat his wife (my grandmother’s sister), he eventually loses such “power.” He could not heal anymore and soon no one comes to their house for treatment. When I asked my mom how or where did that ability to heal came from. It was said that he got it from a dying old man in the hospital. He was just a normal guy married to my grandmother’s sister before. My grandmom’s sister has died a long, long time ago but her husband (mom’s uncle) is still alive and strong until now. Do you ever believe in faith healer/herbalist? A lot of them are still around but most of them now are quack doctors.

Yes. I believe. Today I was in Apollo Hospital, chennai. There I saw some writing similar to this. Belief is the basis of all healing---I saw patients from North East India, North India, South India assembling there for treatment. There was one patient being treated for 2 months+ . Bill amount is Rs.1 crore +.($20 lakhs roughly). Your mom's uncle would have lost his power on some happening and that is why people were not coming to him.

Only thirsty man will know the usefulness of water. Similarly when we face problems we tend to believe people. Only thing is we should depend on good people. In the process sometimes we fall a prey in the hands of bad people or who squeeze others or do injustice to them.

@ravi, that is true. when we are so depressed about a major health problem we tend to believe in such things, sometimes there is nothing wrong if the people will not put some blade on our skin. healing using words or touching us while using the words of God and having faith in Him is still acceptable. But some who are using different things to hit us or cut us is something I won't ever believe. Those are the healers that harms their patients.

You really believe in the power of healing that was done by an ordinary person? I find it really hard to believe them. Or maybe I haven't seen one personally. What I believe is that we can help ourselves be healed by having faith in God and ourselves, aside from taking the medicines we needed for our illness.

No dear I don't. I only believed that our faith can help us heal. Scientifically basis, faith can help people heal from ailments thru psychological effects- it's a great help when people facing illness and have strong faith they can be healed.

I dont know whether faith healing is working or not. But i read some doctors are changed to faith healers as they dont want to feel their patients always with medicines as i too believe faith cures all diseases without faith even more medicines and treatments given there is no use.

That is right Naseem. We need to have faith and we will definitely be healed, whether we consult a doctor or a folk healer.

Faith in a certain thing or certain experience is the starting point of belief. I go to temples on Sundays with the belief and the next week will be without any problems. We go to a doctor with belief only. If we do not have belief then even the best medicine cannot cure us.

Hi enelym Yes. Faith works wonders and if you think it that way, the faith healers are existent. Simple - You catch any illness. You go to a doctor - having a Faith that you will get cured - if you didnt, you would not got this particular doc. That is where the First "Faith" things come. Next, the doc prescribes you some medicines - which are merely chemicals or even sweeteners - but tells you that they are going to heal you - you again believe those words - Faith again. Trust me, if you dont believe that the medicines you are taking can cure you... there is no medicine that will cure you. That is Faith again Now, as it is all about faith, I extended it on many occasions to people instead of medicines... And that makes all of those people - faith healers - doesnt it? When I have common cold, I dont take medicines, in fact I dont take any other medicines except for those needed to attend to my UC issue and as of today I am NOT using any medications for Arthritis as the pain is under limits and much bearable.

YAY!!! The BR from you on this one... It acts as a faith healer as I woke up with just a 3 hours sleep, a severe headache and a painful back... But re-reading this and the BR Definitely relieves me of many pains (and this is an honest confession here)

Hi sids You're absolutely correct on that. We believe that the medicines we take when we have headaches or cough can cure us, and that is Faith. And we get cured by it. While some chooses to just take some rest or drink a lot of water, take tea with lemon - and they get healed just by doing so. We all are faith healers in one way or another. Very nice thoughts about it sids!

I believe in them, some Churches do that, i even saw them do it on tv.. and it seems real. I even pray with them sometimes.. I think the power comes from God, and they are like his instruments, but it is also up to the person if he or she has faith too.

I don't like those people who pretend to be faith healers and even make the condition worse.. They should be punished by the law and by God.. Since they fool people for their selfish purposes.

Yes it will be up to the person. Some are misusing such power. And some, using it to help. The people who goes to seek for healing must really have faith, coz sometimes the only thing that will heal them is their faith.

I haven't seen a faith healer yet. But i do have an experience of going to a healing mass. But i cannot say for myself that i believe in it because i don't have any sickness to heal in me that time. I have yet to experience healing so i will believe. I think, if you indeed believe in the healing power of God, you will believe.

I think you're also right, sometimes it doesn't take other people to actually do the healing for us. It is our own faith that can heal us. By the way, are they your kids? They look awesome with their pink and blue chef uniform

Correct, enelym. Actually my father-in-law attended the healing mass together with her wife. He said his aching joint got healed that day, but after a few days it came back. Mother-in-law said, that it's because he don't actually believe that it will heal. And besides he keeps eating foods that is forbidden for arthritic persons. No, they are my sister -in-law's (sister of my husband)kids in Australia. They are so cute and i love the boy specially, when they came here for a visit. That was one of the activities in their day care learning center.

well...God only has the power to heal the sickness /either His will,or not..it depends on God and He is the one who over to heal people..When Jesus was on earthHe heals peoples disease and some healed because they have faith, believe Jesus that He can....He never use any tools to heal people, like handkercheif, paper,or any words that does not understandable.. Satan can use to heal people with using something giberish words,,unknown, using candle etc..but that is not from God..

Hi enelym! I don't really believe in them. There's too many fraud faith healers that have been exposed on television so it's hard to just believe in things like this. Even if I see them actually happening, I wouldn't believe it. Who knows what kind of tricks they are using? Or if the people they "heal" are their accomplices? (No offense to your mom's uncle) And, I'm more of a scientific person. I believe more on science because they can be explained with hard evidences.

Hi secretbear, It's okay.. it has happened long ago when we're still not on Earth my mom is still young then. And yes, I am also suspicious of those I see on TV where people confessed their beliefs on them and some even praising them. I sometimes thinks it was scripted.

I guess the only way to know whether faith healing works or not is to experience it for one's self. I practice Zen and have experienced some remarkable things. Zen doesn't function on belief systems but accepts what can be proved and that means that awareness becomes a personal experience and as a practitioner, I don't need to prove to anybody else. Yes, I would say that the process called "faith healing" works and have seen to work, but I wouldn't call it "faith" healing because there are instances where the sick person who the healing is directed towards, knows nothing about what others are going for him/her. The human mind is vast and can act against us for for us, as at an unconscious and subconscious level, it does not reason. If we can focus our attention on another person, at a deep level of consciousness, we can connect with them and support them. Some people can experience this connection, whilst other can't but it doesn't alter the power of the healing intent, from what I have experienced. We are evolving as a race all the time, and I would say that we all have this ability if we are willing to learn about it and use it.. _Derek

I guess the only way to know whether faith healing works or not is to experience it for one's self. That's true. We shut our beliefs to such things because we have not seen any proof of it. But maybe if I have seen it on my own eyes and experienced it (which I actually won't like to) then only I would believe that it's real.

Hello enelym, I don’t believe in faith healers. But I do believe that FAITH can heal you. Our body is designed to be able to heal itself and with the help of certain supplements and the power of our faith we would be healed. If we believe something happen, it will. It doesn’t matter if its about religion as long as we have FAITH that we would be healed then it will happen.

Hi enelym: It's nice to know another story like this. In myc ase we had a faith healer in my house. It was actually my uncle who had this special power and it's almost like your story. I think the only scientis explanation is the placebo effect. When people believe they'll be cured the body acts this way and they could eventually be cured. My mom told me about this but I haven't seen this in real life. I guess that's the only way to explain this. ALVARO

Hi Alvaro, Glad someone here have the same healer in the family. 'Though I was not able to witness such thing too, I was not even in the world during those times. That is also true, the belief that you will be cured is the one that heals. We don't know whether it's because of the healer or the person.

This one's really popular in the Philippines. I don;t know whether to actually believe or not but someone from my relatives could also do the same. I am not so sure about to story so I can't relate it here. Other people say it's black magic. That stuff like this has been acquired from the dark side. Some of these so-called faith healers are just like placebo, they could be a way of motivation for others to feel better. For me, we are all faith healers but for ourselves, not for others. We can be healed by our faith, it may not be physically but spiritually. It's all in our heart. But of course we still need the actual medicine if we really are ill. =D

@ardoy, Yup some are going to faith healers when they feel the doctors can't heal them. While some opt to go there because they have no money to be treated in the hospital. We should respect them but they still should be advised not to really believe they will be healed by those people. @jai dear, I can't remember the story of that faith healer. But I have seen some documentaries about some faith healers in the Philippines that was known even by foreigners.

Hi mutinvrt, Yes both are different since quack doctors are there to really fool someone even though they don't know how to heal. In faith healing, I think we have faith that we will get well even without the healer, we will be able to see and feel positive changes and healing on us.

Since your from the Philippines as well, I'll assume you've heard of MAGTATAWAS right? I've witnessed someone used Tawas or Alum in English, but I'm not sure if it's for healing, I think the faith healer used it to find the source of the supernatural incident that had happened to my bro. I don't really believe much to them, they scare me as well and supernatural things like that makes my knees go weak, but back then we had no choice but to consult one. My brother had played in this vacant lot somewhere near our neighborhood, and then he had started to get blisters on his feet. It was horrible, it looks a lot like raw meat or a fried longganisa. My older brother couldn't walk anymore, and medicine didn't helped on healing it so my father had brought him to a faith healer. The Magtatawas told us that my brother had stepped on an old buried well where those 'creatures' had been dwelling, and they had took offence on my brothers action so they did that to him. I don't really remember what the faith healer did, but after we had consulted one, my brother's wounds in his feet had healed in no time, just after few days. I was just barely 7 back then, so I couldn't remember much but I've heard of many incidents like that, especially in our country. I'll probably ask my Mom what did the faith healer did to heal my brother's feet. But still, we may have consulted to one but the thought of how they do those tricks or where their powers are coming from scares me a lot, I don't really believe all of them, but from our experience I may believe some of them.

Hi jhustinian, Yes I know Magtatawas. Actually I have a relative who's doing that. WE often call her when someone's sick and she would ask for a basin with water and a small white candle. She'd dropped it on the water and it will form something. I don't really now whether that is real.

Hi miss... I think I'm familiar with the term, but am not sure what it means.. I have no idea how they do it. Sounds like spiritual stuff to me. Hi mr_pearl, I am not sure whether the "power to heal" is true or not. But my mom says that he have seen really abnormal people that has been hexed become normal again. I don't really know how he do it but I don't fully believe on it unless I see it from my eyes and that I must know too that the person they heal is one that I personally know. unless I will think they all are actors. You need it for your love problems? Your heart will be healed I am sure of that... someone will come to stitch your heart back and you will soon realize that life is so good

I believe in the power of prayer and I believe in the power of the mind. I don't necessarily believe in the power of faith healers, but I do believe that for certain things if the person believes strongly enough in what the faith healer is doing their mind can have a positive effect on the outcome. I don't think that anything can simply cure things like cancer or anything like that though.

That is true ladym, Some people who goes to faith healers are those that have been given by their doctors "time limits" on how long they should live. That would mean they have a disease that is hard to cure even by doctors, only a miracle, prayers, belief and faith would heal those people.

I believe that everything is in the mind, of both, the healer and the people who gets to see him/her, and the real power is in the sugestion this people can perform, over the person´s mind, in order to heal him/herself.

I do sometimes. I don't disregard the fact that there are people who are really blessed with such talent. Last year, i found out that my grandpa has a talent in healing sick people. He told me that he was taught by a stranger, an old Japanese man who approached him and shared his talent before retiring and going back to his native land. Now, my grandpa is sick, very sick. He can't even heal him self(disadvantage of being a healer). He said that all the pain he acquire now is from the people he cure. He's partially blind now.

Really? I think your grandpa's story is very similar to what mom's uncle's story. I am still not sure whether to believe this stories, coz even my mom is finding it very mysterious. But how you told the way your grandpa get the healing talent is really very similar. My mom's uncle is still strong until now, and the stranger who said to have given that 'power' to him was not able to heal himself too.

I have never been to faith healers. I do not believe that faith healer could cure the diseases. Most people in Asian country, especially believe in faith healer. I think believe it or not, that all depend on your faith or belief. Some people went to see to get a good medication, they don't believe that medicine could not heal them, they are not healed. Then, they went to see faith healer and they believe in everything what say told and then they finally got recovered. So, in my opinion, that all depends on your belief or faith.
