Most of us are sleeping at night so, it is understandable that we cannot urinate (except for those who urinate on their bed) lol! However, some health enthusiast said that holding back from urinating may cause kidney diseases. So, if that's the case, it would mean that most of us are susceptible to kidney disease. Is it really bad not to urinate at night or you really have to wake up to do it?

Yup you right, frequent restraining when urinating is not good for the health.Because the urine that backflow to our kidney can cause stone that would lead to kidney damage further. So to us in prevention we must urinate ahead before bedtime so in the late at night we will not anymore wake up just to urinate.Good for me that i do have awareness about any diseases. We take good care of our health to prevent any diseases that could deteriorate our body system.

Uh, no, it's usually heredity that causes kidney stones. That's hogwash. When the bladder becomes weak, that's what causes people to urinate more, or some underlying health problem. Of course you urinate before bedtime, just as you brush your teeth, lol!

I've been told since I was a kid that holding one's urge to urinate is bad. Well, aside from the fact that for men, it's really so hard to hold back from urinating. And yes, I believe it has something to do with our kidneys. So I would always make it a point to relieve myself immediately before going to bed. It sort of had become a routine of mine. And I do rise out of bed in those instances wherein I feel I have to go.

That's one of my most hated part in sleeping, waking up just to relieve myself. But as other commenters mentioned, our kidney can hold significant amount of urine, I'm just not sure if that's correct.

I think that it is only really harmful to not urinate if you are purposely holding back from doing it. If you are sleeping most of the time it is not a problem because if you REALLY needed to go, you would wake up or it would just flow if you didn't wake up. I think when you have to worry about it is if you are in a situation where you can't get to a restroom (say you are taking a test and they don't allow you to leave the room for anything). Do you agree with this? Have a great weekend!!!

Hi! I do believe that it's bad to hold your pee. Whenever it's night or day. It's a no-no because it's bad for the kidney just like you said. I always feel like peeing at dawn, when the morning is near and it's annoying because "why can't it wait until my wake-up time?" So there are times that I can't get out from bed to go to the toilet to pee. I hold it until my alarm clock rings. But most of the time I do my best to get up, even if it's two AM in the morning when spirits are still up and about.

Not urinating at night is really a bad habit. But there are lots of people have this habit. Most of them are young people who always have a sound sleep. Because as for elders, they always have some trouble in sleep very sound or don't have so much sleep. Some people don't go to urinate at night because of lazy or they are not willing to climb out the warm quilts,(this is especially true in cold places without heating in the house). Some think get up during the sleeping can shorten the sleeping time or harm the quality of the sleeping. In fact, those who try to hold not to urinate at nights always have dreams about go to WC. Well, which means they can't sleep well at all. I think we should realize the harm and kick this bad habit. Well, to prevent from get up so many time during sleeping, don't drink too much water just before going to bed. And just remember, if you don't care about your body, then when you got ill, you will lose the ability to sleep well for ever.

Hmm.. I think holding urination is bad. But when we're asleep, our system slows down and perhaps the frequency of urination is also slower - which is why when we wake up, the first thing that most of us do is to urinate. Have a great MyLot experience ahead!

Hello stuckonu, I think holding back our pee for sometime is somewhat a sign that our kidney is in good condition. I have heard of that before, but of course, holding it more often and not releasing for a long time it is another story, that would be bad. So, I think not urinating at night would not harm our kidney. I myself don't wake up too often at night just to pee because I don't need the urge to do it. when I have drink a lot of water before going to bed, I can feel in the middle of the night that I need to pee so I do it. But most of the time I can sleep straight without feeling it until the morning. Have a great day ahead of you and have fun mylotting!

Very rarely I need to urinate at night. And I never become too lazy to control urination for whole night. Kidney functions to form urine and to store it for some time. It is right that kidney can store significant amount of urine but we should urinate when we feel we should relive now. Because if you store urine for longer time kidney will be under load so kidney has to function more beyond its capacity and as it's law of nature that the every part gets damaged if it is working beyond its capacity. You won't experience it right now, but at old times many kidney problems persists. The number of peoples suffering from kidney diseases are increasing day by day. Not only by urinating at time can keep your kidney safe, but you should eat complete natural food which don't contain any chemicals. If you consume more chemicals, toxins, kidney will have to work a lot to purify these toxins from blood. As a result of this kidney shrinks. If kidney is once shrinked it never comes again in its original state. And you'll have to leave eating junk food, green vegetables, rice, etc etc etc. ENJOY MYLOTTING

I usually feel the urge to urinate especially during night time while sleeping because I'm a big fan of WATER. I think that by trying to hold it can cause urinary tract problems including the kidneys which are responsible for urine formation and which also acts as a blood purification chamber, but by the way I'm becoming curious now that why is it that you're trying to hold your back on it? is it because you're too lazy to get up?

For youngsters it is not a problem, Only in the old age we have the practice to urinate at night. Real reason for this is in old age the person will not get a sound sleep like young person and also the kidney will not have so much capacity like young to withstand too much time without urinating. In distributed sleep all will have the feeling of urinating.

Very important to our health is to get adequate sleep, including deep sleep. The body is designed to handle the body systems during the night while we sleep, so that is a good thing. I don't buy the idea that making it through the night is a bad thing. For those who propose that it is, I welcome them to set their alarm clock to whatever time they want, so they can get up and empty their bladder. Go crazy with it, but I'm not interested in this bit of wackiness. I also recommend that these people get to the doctor right away and get a prescription water pill. Then they can get up a couple times a night. People need to stop pretending to be the expert, peddling their ideas onto everyone else.

I think it's very important to urinate before going to bed because if we are lazy to do so, the waste inside will pressure our body and result into kidney disease and related illnesses. Let yourself let go of the waste so your body will be cleansed and you'll be able to get rid of toxins.

That's hogwash. If anything, having to get up in the night to urinate points to some kind of health problem, lol. You must be young so you don't know what I'm talking about. Older people, especially men, sometimes have problems with their prostate, so they have to get up at night to urinate, and with women, most likely it's menopause that's the culprit. Nope, not harmful not urinating at night. Just be thankful you don't do that. It sucks, lol.

I make sure that I go to the bathroom before going to bed to avoid waking up in the middle of the night urinating. I can always rise up whenever I feel to urinate. I think when you hold it back till the morning comes it will cause you urinary tract infection.

yes it is harmful if u feel that and you will not urinate. but there is one thing you can avoid that, minimize drinking water before you sleep or urinate first before you go to bed. ^_^

A normal people usually have full bladder every 2-3 hours, but the sensation to void varies individually. If a person will not void, I think there will be a backflow or reabsorption of the urine in the kidneys which contribute to the damage of the kidney cells or nephrons. At night, when we were at rest or sleeping, we may or we may not feel the urge to void, but if we feel the urge, make sure to urinate, prevention is better than cure.
