Sometimes bad news hits a little close to home

I was walking to the car dealer yesterday to pick up my car when the phone rang. It was the principal of Cary's elementary school. Not good. When the school calls in the middle of a school day, it's usually a lockdown or an evacuation or something. Well, this time it was a death, a boy named Keegan, accidentally killed by a pellet gun. http://sacramento.cbslocal.com/2011/11/30/boy-dies-in-el-dorado-hills-after-being-shot-by-pellet-gun/ I was bawling my silly eyes out halfway into the call. I e-mailed Dearra to see if she knew him, and she didn't, but when the twins got home, they both did. Cary couldn't stop talking about him. He was the same grade as Cary, had never been in his class, but they had a mutual friend, Gabe. Cary showed me a lego car that Keegan had made and given to Gabe, who had given it to Cary. He wanted to tell Keegan's parents that he was really creative, and that he was sorry he wasn't still alive. He was still talking about him today. If there's a public funeral, Cary wants to go, so I'll take him if there is.

That is so tragic. If you're like me, it makes you even more grateful for your own kids. Having lost a son myself, I can say that the little boy's parents have a long hard road ahead of them. The fact that your son and the boy have/had a mutual friend also mean that your son will go through a lot of the grieving process as well, and so will his friend. Don't be surprised if your son talks about him a lot for a while, or even brings him up out of the blue at some point down the road. If/When you speak to his parents, please be sure to let them know that he made a difference in ma lives, and that he will always be remembered. They will need to hear that.

I think Cary is taking this better than you mom. This shows how well you raised him!Tell him I'm sorry for his loss and that Aunt Sarah is very proud of him.

That means he is human. It will take some time Mom but he will be ok. He is a strong kid, he takes after his mother!

That is so sad and I am very sorry to hear this. It is really hard for parents to lose a child, especially at such a young age. This makes me sad now too.

That is very sad. He was way to young to die if he was still in high school. Such a terrible and dangerous accident. I think it will be hard for many kids at that school and parents even if they didn't know him because like you said it was really close to home and it is so very sad when someone that young is taken before their lives even start to begin.

Yes, something terrible things happen too closely to us. days ago, i was returning to my home by train from my job place. there was some terrible sounds under the compartment like someone throwing stones. We asked to stop the train on upcoming station. When the guard and workers searched the reason.... oh, there was a human leg detached from thigh.

Oh geez, that is awful... do they have any idea how it got there or who it belonged to?
