Sultanas Are So Versatile!

I seem to have a "thing" about sultanas at the moment, I really do. However, I made some cookies today that SHOULD'VE involved using chocolate chips but I didn't have any..so I've improvised and used sultanas instead and left the almond flakes in there as the Lyle recipe dictated.
I thought they'd turn out crap, to be honest as the mixture was VERY sticky but I baked them anyway and I'm really pleased with them. I've only eaten one as it's Fish and Chips night tonight so I'll wait until after I've eaten those.
Much better for you than chocolate chips but there again if I'd had some in I would've used them!!

People here often use raisins (sultanas) in their cookies. Our recipes often call for pecans or walnuts, but almonds are good as well. Enjoy your fish and chips and not too many of your cookies.

The chips were all rubbery (gotta time it right in the shop) but, never mind, it make me want cookies all the more. Yes, we use raisins as well but I've only got sultanas in at the moment, how confusing is that lol.
I would've made some Eccles Cakes if I'd got currants in!

I don't see a pic but that's OK. I am afraid that I loathe sultanas. Makes me shudder just hearing the word said! In fact I am not a fan of dried fruit at all. I shall now contradict myself by saying that I do like a piece of fruit cake! LOL. Potty I know. Enjoy your munching. You are really impressive with your cooking now. Hooray!

I did think about making Eccles Cakes with them but you're supposed to use currants and I didn't want to risk it, hence the cookies.
It's a shame you don't like them but hey-ho, more for me lol.

Hiya Janey,
I bet those tasted really nice too. Sultanas and Almonds are amongst my favourites. I can´t round to making Cookies yet when I have everything sorted out maybe I am just about getting the Dinner done as I have a very young Puppy round my feet most of the Day and its more work than a Baby.
My Son wanted to bring a Cat here and I said no way that either me or the Cat would be leaving right away just kidding but I cannot take on any more than what I have got here as I take him for walks and do all the rest as well stay with him for hours.
So I just have the odd minute or two to write on here.xxx
Bet they tasted nice as well. You will have to make some more so we can all have some.xxx

Hiya Janey,
Work about three times as much it is rewarding sometimes but not when others dump him on to you for the next few hours so I am so glad when it comes to about tennish at night he he he.
He is lovely but sometimes very naughty as I can only expect that from him I have buckets of patience but it can spread very thin sometimes and a Cat would be the last straw not to mention Budgies as well not likely said I.
You will be very busy doing Cookies for us all.xxx

You replaced chocolate chips with sultanas and it was great.It seems that in cuisine we must also constantly bring forth new ideas instead of rigidly adhering to recipe.What interests me is Fish and chips night.Is it a holiday?

Fish and chips night isn't a holiday (I wish). No, what I meant was, we were due to have fish and chips night on a Friday as the shop that sells them is down the road from us. Friday is the only night we have them as they are extremely fattening if you eat them every day.

We've eaten a couple more..well 3 and they're great!
I never knew sultanas were dried grapes but I know now!

You're really coming along well with your cooking/baking, Janey. Now aren't you glad you finally started doing it?
The cookies look like you did a good job of it. Almost makes me want to go make some myself. But, I've got some bananas that need to be used so I'll probably opt for the banana bread tonight.

It's Saturday, and my son had an activity that took much of the morning, and parts of the afternoon. It was past 3pm when we finally had lunch. We just got home, and I'm looking for something sweet. I think this picture here is just what I need. I'm sure it'll hit the spot.
I wonder though if there is anything left as this discussion is a week old.

Ah, that looks delicious! I also make such cookies and it disappears in no time . Cookies are my favourite and to my family also.
