My son's going for surgery

Both of my kids are visually impaired and have glaucoma. My son is going to get the Ahmed glaucoma valve inserted into his right eye this coming monday. I have faith in the eye doctor, because she did a really good job on my daughter, who has a glaucoma valve in each eye. I hope and pray it will be successful for my son, too. It's his only good eye. He also has a cataract in that eye and it's moving into his line of vision. He'll have to get that removed some time soon. I know we got good doctors, but still a part of me is nervous. I don't want my kid to go completely blind...

Mashihi: Sad to hear this-- Both your kids are visually impaired. I am sorry. You remember once I told are you from a muslim country because your dress makes it felt so. Then you corrected me that you are a christian living in Canada. I am told hospitals in canada are good. I wish your son gets cured out of this operation fully and his vision improves considerably. In fact my grand son - is also undergoing treatment in Toronto for testing audibility. His audility is considered as Middle (3rd rank out of 5) and that is why probably he talking ability is improving slowly. My daughter is worried (also we are) because he has no PR card issued. Boy is US citizen moved to Canada with parents. We are keeping our fingers crossed.

Both my kids and myself have a genetic disorder which causes hearing and vision impairment. I admit I was heartbroken over the diagnosis of both my children but now it has become a way of life. They'll grow up with excellent support services, much better than the services I had when growing up, although I must say the support I had growing up was really good as well. Does your grandson wear hearing aids? Me and my children all do.

Hearing aids are awesome, I'm really glad we are able to have access to them, so that we can hear just as good as anyone else.

He is being put to testing. He has middle order hearing. Doctors will have to suggest whether he has to be given aids. If they say yes then he has to wear and that may improve his talking ability. the child is struggling not being able to decide which subject he should talk - tamil, english, spanish, african -- Some hospital may be doing it free for him because he is awaiting PR. Sorry to hear you have to use aids-- With all that you are doing good job. my blessings.

Wow, I would be freaking with something like that. My mom refuses to get her eyes worked on even though she needs it badly because she is afraid they will mess up and she will be totally blind. And we don't have the faith in our doctors as you do in your doctors. I have many times said that all the quack doctors moved to Kentucky..lol Well, hope things go well and that everything turns out okay for you both..and that your nerves hold up.

Don't think bad, be optimistic. I have been through two eye surgeries, though it was for cataract removal. It did work out pretty well. It will for your kids too. All the best to them.

You are a good mom and it is well that you are concerned. Most of us would be. I think you do a great job of loving and caring for your kids and I pray blessings on the surgeon who will do your son's surgery.

You are a strong woman, i do not know how you get through this. I have three wonderful kids and whenever they get fever..or just even a cough, i go worry and crazy over them and i rant how miserable life can be..but here you have with kids in such situations and i can feel how strong you are. I admire you and i pray your kids will go through this surgery well.

You'd be amazed at how strong you are once you approach a situation. even though you have emotions, you'll find that you'll get through it in pretty good shape.

Of course your nervous. That's your child, your son, so as a parent you have every right to be nervous. Just say a prayer that everything will be alright & have faith that it will. I will be sure to keep your son & your family as well in my prayers this evening.

Aye, that I will, that G-d will give wisdom to the doctors. I know He does :-) It's the only thing I can do, which is to trust Him, and of course do all I can do as a parent should do, on my end.

Hello you must have faith in God because in HIM everything is possible. In my opinion you must be strong enough it might be a trial for you to be strong whatever will be the result of the operation of your two kids. When the see you that you are not nervous for the upcoming operation then your two kids also are strong enough to face it.You must be faithful and prayerful OK. Trust in God that everything will be alright then. And your kids will have fast recovery after the operations itself.I will pray for the upcoming operation too good luck and god bless.
