Mum Got Up For Work Even Though It's A Sunday!

I've just had my usual telephone call to Mum and she told me something really funny. At around 7.30am she looked at her clock and thought "Oh, no! My alarm hasn't gone off..best get up for work!" So, out of bed and into the shower she went (a short one because she was "late") then she chose to ring her boss up. She rang and - not surprisingly, there was no answer. "Oh no! She must be late in as well!" was Mum's initial thought. She told me she had failed to spot the pots on the stove ready for the SUNDAY DINNER later on. The only time she realised she'd made a dreadful mistake was upon seeing my brother's clothes. He brings them round at WEEKENDS so this is when the penny finally dropped. She then got out of her workclothes, put her nightie back on, went to bed..and got up at 11.15am. "It threw me out for the rest of the day..getting up that late." Hahaha! Have you ever done this? Got up for work when it was your weekend off? I've only done it once. I once got up at 1am, thinking it was about 7am but I can't remember if it was actually a work day or not. All I remember was feeling a bit stupid when I realised I'd got up in the middle of the night.

I am usually aware of what day it is not long after waking up, but I have found myself up and dressed - usually in winter time, and then looked at the clock and realized it was usually around 4 a.m. I don't go back to bed because I am by then fully awake. I always meditate before breakfast, so I generally tend to meditate for longer. I am usually up by 6 a.m. anyway regardless of what time I go to bed, I don't really need a lot of sleep, unless... wait a minute... I tend to fall asleep in front of the TV a lot.. _Derek

Do you know that I had never notice that before. Come to think of it, my wife rarely falls asleep in front of the TV and can read the paper and watch the TV at the same time and update me on what's happened when I have fallen asleep! Mulit-tasking.. But I must wonder if she takes in everything, as sometimes, if I have not fallen asleep, I am telling her what's happened. She picks up a gist of what has happened here and there I think. _Derek

That's DEFINITELY a man thing. No matter how tired I get I can never fall asleep in front of the telly. Both my hubby and my Dad can sleep (albeit at different times of the day) in front of the telly, no bother.

My Dad? Getting his own food? Not on yer nelly lol. He waited for Mum to do it albeit it later than usual..then he moaned (apparently) that there was too much on the plate. Mum wonders why she bothers at times.

I know the feeling, I have been waking up at weird and wonderful hours and then sometimes take a nap and it confuses my schedule no end. The worst part is if it were a 10 or 15 minute nap it would be okay, but an hour just is too much, that happened on Saturday, I woke up at half past midnight, I had gone to bed early about 10 as I was hoping to sleep in as I was really tired. I woke up tossed and turned for a while and couldn't sleep any more so started doing things around the house, then about 3 in the afternoon I sat down as just too tired, next thing I know an hour passes and I feel sore all over. I do notice that it seems the days that I can sleep in are the days I seem to wake up the earliest, things like weekends or public holidays, and the worst thing is to try to go back to sleep because then the same happens as it did to you mother my morning disappears.

I know the feeling, holidays are wonderful, but the first two days it seems like I am supposed to be doing something, and find it difficult just to sit still. Hope your Mum has fun on the holidays though, because it seems at times holidays especially around Christmas can be busier then any other time of the year. I too am the hit the pillow away I go type sleeper, I also wake up that way, one minute asleep next awake lately, I miss the hazy wake up the dream state that gives the wonderful fuzzy feeling.

My Mum has the school holidays and it always takes her a while to adjust to getting up earlier once she goes back to work. As for me, I have spells when I can't sleep very well (like at the moment) but it's due to the fact I'm not as tired as when I'm working. Yes, I do the housework, etc, but I have the freedom to go to bed and get up when I like. It's not always a good thing, however, as, no matter what time I go to bed (and it's always very late) I never fall asleep within, say, half an hour. It takes a LOT longer than that. Hubby, on the other hand..as soon as his head hits the pillow, he's "away with the pixies" lol.

I am always up and out of bed by about 5am regardless of what day it is so it matters not what day it is to me. I have however gotten out of bed, showered and dressed and even had breakfast thinking that it was around 6am one time when it was in actual fact roughly 11pm! This happened to me in a cheap motel on my first night in the USA after being awake for two days. With the massive time difference and lack of sleep, I had not noticed that my watch had stopped working, just that it said 6am. So I got up and got ready. Having no idea what time the sun came up in the LA winter, I was surprised that the sun was not coming up but thought nothing of it until it was still dark an hour later. So I then went down into the lobby and saw the real time which was still only around midnight! So, back to bed I went and then got up again in the real daytime later that morning.

The only time I think that I did this was on one of my earliest jobs. I was working as a supervisor for a small tile company. We ran 24/7 and there were only 3 supervisors manning around 50 people. We had to work 6 days a week with one day working a 12-hour shift so that one of us could get a 'free' day. Aside from that, we had to rotate our shifts so that no one ends up working the graveyard shift all the time. It was a very stressful career time for me. Everyday after I wake up, I really had to sit and think what day it was, and figure out if I was on or not. There were many-a-days where I would be running out the door only to realize that it was my day off.

I do not remember doing the same, at least not in recent years. However, last Tuesday evening I got an e mail about a meeting, for Wednesday evening. Well,in my mind it was Wednesday already and too close to time for me to get there. I e mailed that I had other obligations. I realized about a half hour later that the meeting was not until the next day, so I had to respond and say "oops" I would come.

LOL.. I once turned up at the office and after entering I realized (all of a sudden) that it was my week off... I thought I would never let anyone know (wouldn't be good if they laughed at me).. So I just said that I was getting bored at home, so came to office to see my friends...

Awww! I've remembered another time I turned up for work and I needn't have done as it was still my Christmas holiday (an extra day out of my allocation rather than the public holiday). I had the option of (either) staying or going home. I bet you can guess which one I chose!

become mothers every day for work simply because they have this habit they just feel the need to become. it is their blood, it is just there. but tell you what is really funny once my mother was three o'clock in the morning and was heading to work. just instinct or habit, how to call the side is awful funny because I just get into a comic situation. nice day!

At least Mum wasn't on her bike when she realised she didn't have to go to work after all. That would've been worse for her, I think.
