What's it like to travel by train?

I do like and enjoy travelling by train, when the weather is pleasant. It is very nice to take cross-country rides. That gives the possibility to see the scenic places along the route, places one would not often get to. A train-ride across the Rocky Mountain is really very beautiful.

Going by train is my favorite way to travel. In the daytime I can look out of the window and in the night time I enjoy sleeping in a comfortable compartment. I love the sound a train makes as it moves along. If no train is available I choose to travel by bus. For long haul trips I have to travel by plane but it is not a way to travel that I like all that much. I feel it is necessary yet by train is a happy and enjoyable experience. I bought Amtrak tickets on-line for my trip when I was 29 years old. I did Los Angeles to San Diego, San Diego to Santa Barbara and Oakland to Los Angeles. I got very cheap fares because it was November. I used buses to see places like Santa Cruz. It was a very interesting and lovely trip. Later on my trip I traveled on trains in New Zealand. I went from Christchurch to Greymouth and Christchurch to Picton. The best trip was from Christchurch to Dunedin but New Zealand don't have that train service anymore. I traveled on an overnight train in Kenya and saw a giraffe at breakfast time. I have traveled on trains in Europe by using a train pass.

I love taking Amtrak. I like it, because they don't mess up my electronic wheelchair as I sit in at the time and will slap any handsie conductor. I use it to go to DC, New Haven, Pennsylvania, NJ, New York (City and Albany). I have earned two free trips on Amtrak since joining the reward program (DC and New Jersey).

Last year my husband and I travelled around in Europe by train. We bought interrail tickets and when we had bought the tickets we were able to travel around in Europe for one month. We started in Greece and then we went to Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia, Poland and Germany. We spent a lot of time in the trains, but we we enjoyed the trip very much, we chatted to the other passengers, read a lot of books and magazines, played some games, enjoyed the view from the window etc. I enjoyed travelling by train, and I think it is a very nice way to travel, because we are able to see other countries or places than our destination on the way to the destination. I always enjoy the view from the window and while I am travelling I get a glimpse of other interesting and beautiful places. We have talked about buying internet tickets again again. Next time we want to visit Croatia, Slovenia, Austria and a couple of other places. We need to save up the money first, but I am already excited about the next trip.
