I have heard of this movie a lot before- (about a guy (Tom Cruise) who finds out after his father's death that he has an an autistic older brother(Dustin Hoffman))... but it was just yesterday when I took the time to watch it. it was a really nice movie, at some times it was slow, but I loved the acting- it was very convincing. Although I wanted to see more of the brotherly love and what really happened before- a flashback would be nice. I was really touched when Charlie fund out that his "imaginary friend" was actually his brother, and when Charlie started to really care for his brother..

Yes, Rain Man was quite a movie. I wonder if there was a book. Sometimes the book is more informative and has more background. I researched this and found that the real person was Kim Peek. Here is an interesting article about the real rain man:

yeah, i watched the movie when i was in high school several years ago. as a brother, i found it very inspiring. like you said, the brotherly love transcends the daily and engrossing routines of capitalistic world. i particularly like the dialogue. acting is outstanding and natural. casting is superb. cruise and hoffman fit the role. i would like my sons to watch this movie when i have sons.

This movie was actually inspired by a real savant Kim Peek. I have seen movie clips wherein Dustin is studying the actions of Kim and he mimics it. I agree with you that this is a very touching and wonderful movie. I suggest you look for videos of Kim at youtube and see for yourself.

Yes I agree this was a very good movie. One of Dustin Hoffman's best I think. Tom Cruise is also a good actor but lately his fine acting getting wasted on movies such as the Mission Impossible sequels. Rain man was a hit because the story itself was so moving. To see the love slowly develop between these two brothers almost brought tears to my eyes. It's well worth watching.
