The Roof Collapsed!

And boy was it a HUGE mess!
I made the pattern for the annual gingerbread house, then I did the baking of the pattern this afternoon. I put it together - well, the bottom and the 4 walls, but when I went to put the roof together, it caved in. I wasn't able to save the roof but I was able to salvage the walls, though. So I'll let that stand overnight, then bake another roof tomorrow morning, but this time I'll bake it nice and crispy and thin so it won't bend and cave in. I broke up the roof pieces and just chucked it into the inside of the house, we'll eat all that up in January anyway when we start to nibble at it. I was hoping to all decorate it tonight but then again, tomorrow might be better anyway so that my mother in law can also join in on the fun.
Meanwhile, I'm a dirty, filthy woman. I need a bath, including a need to wash chocolate out of my hair

Ginger bread houses are a lot of fun especially when you make a party of it. It has been a Christmas tradition in the past. Every one would bake their house then bring it to my daughter-in-law's to put together and decorate with the candies. I never cared to eat the ginger bread house as I'm not much on sweets. WE used royal icing made from egg whites and powdered sugar for the glue. We would have some difficulty getting them together sometimes. The memories we made were well worth the difficulty. The kids had great fun deciding what to put in the yard and on the roof. Everyone has since moved to other states and some families have split up but those were fun days. I wish we had taken more pictures at the time.

It's quite big, actually, perhaps just under a half a metre high, I think? And about as long as a normal cookie sheet, a bit shorter, I think, though. Thickness is a bit shorter than the length. It's my own pattern, but I think I'll have to create a better pattern so that I can use year after year.

Chocolate, a new beauty and conditioning treatment. I never made a gingerbread house, I bet this is fun for your family. I just have grownups at home, not so much fun. I am in the car right now, we are headed to see my family, for a Christmas visit.

Masihi you good patience, as far as I know gingerbread houses have not become very popular in Britain ,I am sure if I am wrong many friends are sure to tell us. Jave seen them from time to time and would have thought the kids would have liked them but they have not in our family.
Hope the repairs go well and the children have fun. Happy Christmas.

.

Yeap, I'm hoping for a grand old time tomorrow when the house is ready to decorate. Maybe even get some egg nog or something Christmassy to go with the ritual.
