Home Spun Beauty Treatments

I've heard of lots of beauty treatments for the face and hair. When I was married to a male beautician, he used to put mayonnaise in my hair. I never had to worry about my hair because he always fixed me to go to work. I remember my former husband putting banana mixed with yogurt, honey, lemon. I remember that he would do this to me and my skin would have a very good complexion. I remember he also put egg in my hair before... it was great getting so much attention and these home made beauty remedies seemed to work. Do you have any home spun beauty treatments? Do tell...

Apple cider vinegar restores your ph balance. It will cure dandruff in a couple of washings. It leaves hair very glossy. The only problem is the very strong smell. I've been toying with mixing it with my regular shampoo, but I haven't tried it yet. Virgin olive oil on your face after a scrub is great. I don't really call these beauty treatments though since I'm a guy. I'm just curing my dandruff, and if I continue even though I don't have dandruff it's a preventative measure. And ... olive oil is used in pizza ... pizza is pretty manly isn't it? I'm starting to feel a little uncomfortable with this discussion so I'm taking my leave. :-)

Hi LifeOnGoing! No need to feel uncomfortable here in this discussion. Beauty doesn't have a gender in my opinion. I've seen some very beautiful men ... What is the difference between handsomeness and beauty? I see beauty in men as well as women. I don't feel handsome and beauty have to be gender specific. Welcome! It's good to know that men do care about their skin and scalp. I hope more men will visit now. Maybe your presence will open the door for other men to leave a comment. Thanks!

Rinsing your hair with lemon juice is suppose to make it shine.

I used lemon in the summertime to try and lighten my hair by leaving the juice in my hair and going out in the sun. Yes, lemon juice does make the hair shiny. So does vinegar.

That is right, now I remember that the lemon juice can aid in lightening your hair too. I heard that vinegar also makes your hair shiny, but not sure if I want to walk around smelling like vinegar.

I buy henna for my hair. I mix it with dark coffee and honey and then when the color releases, I add lavender and tea tree oil. My hair is now as thick as when I was in my twenties and it shines. I will rinse it with apple cider vinegar from time to time. I like to use baking soda to wash my face or to put in bath water. I will use baking soda with peroxide for whitening my teeth. I do a blend of essential oils in vitamin E oil and a carrier oil, usually grape seed oil. This helps with chapped lips, or trouble breathing and it seems to shorten the duration of colds and make me sleep better.

Wow! You have a lot if good ideas here. I have very thin hair. Was your hair thin once? I'm not sure if I have the hair fillicled to grow more hair. I stopped coloring my hair over a year ago trying to see if mr hair would get thicker but it didn't.

I only use one home remedy for my face . I use a piece of ice to wipe my face before putting on a moisturizing soap in the morning. Then i would wash it off with a cold water from the fridge. That way, my pores are closed thus making my skin smooth. Though, i must admit , i use a rejuvenating cream in the evening before i sleep. You are so lucky that your husband pampers you that way. Maybe because she doesn't want you to age, so he does that. Lucky you, my friend!

After cutting or making treatment for my hair my mom always putting a vinegar on my hair or eggwhite . I think it can help my hair look shinny but the smell take 2 to 3 days before its gone. In my face, because of our warm weather i got an open pores thats why im always rubbing my face with ice..Ice helps to tighten my pores..

I haven't done the ice but I have done the vinegar. I would like to try the ice, but I just because I dread anything that cold on my face. I might try it though anyway sometime.

I really LOVE home-made beauty treatments. To me, it is the safest, most effective and most economical skin-care. Ever since I read about the goodness of virgin coconut oil or vco, I immediately started my skin-care regime using mostly natural coconut products. My skincare routine is very simple, a moisturizing vco facial soap for cleansing my face and then a few drops of vco applied all over my face and neck, and sometimes my hands. I also have started drinking young coconut juice and ate its white soft flesh. Coconut water is the most refreshing mineral water and it is claimed that this is an effective anti-aging remedy. The coconut water can also be used as toner by storing it in a small bottle with the spray-cap and placed in the refrigerator and can be used to make face masks. You can try one of my mask recipe; mix coconut water with brown rice powder, a little bit of tumeric powder and honey. Apply this mixture in your face and wait until it is dry and wash and rinse. You will be surprised with the result.

I'm lucky enough to have a boyfriend who was an esthetician, and a colour technician in a salon. So, I get my hair beautifully coloured, and he will give me manicures, and he puts egg white on my face, and that really seems to help my oily skin. It's also a major bonus just to be spoiled once in a while.

Putting virgin coconut oil on your hair will make it softer and more manageable. It will also bring out its natural color and shine. You can also do this on kids.

This sounds promising. Do you just put a little in your hands and work it in? Or do you saturate the hair and then wash it out?

I've heard of the mayonnaise and eggs before and it really does work for you hair, but I've never tried it. The only home treatment I ever did was taking oatmeal (uncooked I think) and mixing it with honey and using it as a facial mask. I only did it once but I noticed an improvement. It was just very messy and I think that's why I never used it again. I like doing the home treatments though. It's a cheap and easy way to improve yourself with ingredients you have lying around the house.

I bet that oatmeal mask would be a good one. I might try that when I get paid and get some honey. I have oatmeal. I think that would be a great exfoliation treatment. Thanks for that idea.
