I am not judging the doctor's advise, to take flu shot once a year. Actually, in my work place, they offer free flu shot once a year, and I saw people really sign up for it. But during this month, December, the weather just unpredictable, sometimes, over 65 degrees, sometimes, lower than 52 degrees, it caused many people within my work place got sick. So, I just wonder if this flu shot really help us at all. I didn't take one this year though, because when it comes to sick, even a flu shot won't immunize me from it. What do you think of that?

The flu is caused by a virus. There are a great number of viruses, and the flu shot cannot possibly protect you from every single strain of virus there is. It will protect you from the most common strains for that year, though. The most common strains are determined by medical professionals, but that does not stop another strain from becoming stronger and more prevalent over the course of the year. Also, flu shots will not protect you from bacterial infections, because that is a completely different thing. Fortunately, though, most bacterial infections can be successfully treated with antibiotic medications.

Ok, firstly, you don't get the flu from the temperatures going up and down. The flu is a virus. Most people will recover from it, but, the very young, and very old can get very ill if they catch it. People with weakened immune systems will also have a really hard time if they get it. It's a personal choice, but, I choose to get it, because I'm around people who could get very sick with the flu, and if I can lessen their chances of catching it from me, I'm all for it.

Well,it is better to take flu shot to protect yourself from some disease, but personally, i don't believe flu shot can really protect us from the diseases it claimed. I think everyone is different from others, some are weak and in poor health, even they have taken all kinds of "protections", but they can still be infected with some diseases, but some people are born healthy and knows well how to keep healthy, though they have not taken some shots, they can stay healthy throughout the whole winter.

I have not tried this flu shot yet, but if it's free why not. Well, I guess it's better protected than not. Our weather now is unpredictable, so we must be extra cautious if it concerns our health.

It was also recommended by our HR to management that the employees be given a flu shot. But the expense will at first be by the company, but would be salary deducted in four installments from the employees. Well, i must say i like the idea. At least, it will help us in the prevention of getting the flu. I had one last January and again this November , i had it again. For the past years i haven't had a flu, despite not having a flu shot. I think, my getting older has something to do with it already.

I have had the flu shot one time. I ended up getting the flu anyway after having the shot. I don't get it anymore.

I guess it all depends. I never bother with the flu shot now because it doesn't work for me. I've gotten the shot in the past and instead of being any help I ended up getting sick for a few weeks after getting the shot. And after that I still ended up with the flu. But that could just be my immune system. My parents on the other hand get their flu shots every year and it works wonders for them.

I was quite surprised that your work offered you a free flu shot.In the UK the only people that are given the Flu jab are old people and people with bad health conditions such as asthma or if they get a lot of chest infections. My mum has a flu jab every year because she used to get bad chest and she thinks it is well worth it as she used to get really bad chest infections and be quite ill but since she started having the flu job she hasn't had one. However if you are in good health it may not be worth having it as you could probably fight a flu infection off fairly easy and the flu jab will only immunize you from that particular strain and the flu virus mutates quickly.

I guess it's prevention better than cure.. the jab basically give you the basic protection to eliminate further infection... since there are so many people infected in your area, it will be good to take the jab as precautious

I don't worry about flu shots at all since my doctor didn't advise me on taking one. Well, I don't have a doctor so.. ..yeah. Although I think it would help a lot taking those flu shots. Maybe those offer stronger immunity to colds and other common sickness, disregarding stupidity, of course.

I have been vaccinized of flu for two years now and it does me good. I noticed that I don't get sick of colds nor cough compared to previous years where I don't have the vaccine. The vaccine is yearly and so it gives protection for a year. I am happy with the results to me. I am more confident that even if I am exposed to people with cough , i am not contaminated by it. Based on my experience,it is better to have the vaccination for one's health protection.
