Don't drink and drive! My son is dead for 8 Christmases. It's not fair.

Keith's pole - Where my son died at the hand of a drunk driver.

This is how I have celebrated Christmas, for 8 times now, without my son. I get to decorate the telephone pole where he was killed. Why? Because someone thought that drinking and driving was okay? He died horribly and was only 23. I don't want to hear, "I am sorry". I have heard it. I want to hear, "I will NOT drink and drive (or text, or phone, or other) and I will make sure that everyone I know will, too. Sorry does not help. Knowing that I can make a difference, can. It's not a nightmare. Those you can wake up and it's over. This sorrow never ends.

oh dear, i remember you saying this before. i cant imagine the pain. i havent even lost anyone in that way but have seen it happen with so many that i just dont ever. about 15yrs ago, i had a bf that would make me drive when we were both drinking. he would kick me. say i drove better when i was. but believe me i didnt stay with him long. i hate it. iam one of those extra catious drivers anyway. i think there should be stronger laws and they should do time when caught. and if they kill someone they should at least get manslaughter time if not life in prison or have to loose their liscense forever. !! no idea why but iam determined about this. its a horrible thing. i hate drunks anyway to.

hello, Sorry, I know how you feel about that. You really a good person you should continue life without your son. I know your son is now in the better place. You dont have to worry about him anymore though how much you miss him it is okay. But dont be so sad this Christmas, you should be happy and enjoy life. Your son will never be happy in where he is if he is seeing you like that.

I am so sorry for your loss. I don't care how many years go by we will never stop missing the loved ones we've lost. I really don't understand why they don't have harsher laws against people who drink & drive. How do they give someone the right to drive when they already got behind the wheel after drinking once before? And what is wrong with these people that they don't see anything wrong with what they are doing? This makes me so mad. How many more lives will drunken drivers take before someone somewhere does something to put a top to it once & for all!!

Hi nanajanet, I am so sorry you have to experience the lost of your son because of someone elses actions....I have never had to go through anything like this but I can imagine how terribe it could be.. I truly wish they would put drunk drivers in jail forever..It really dosen't make any sense for anyone to drink themselves into an undignified position.. Once again I am so sorry about your son...

Just stumbled upon this. I'm a mom and I'm so so so sorry for your loss. I don't imagine that it ever gets better. Why people feel a need to get behind the wheel after having drinks is something I will never understand.

It's so sad to lose a loved one in such a way, in a way that could have easily been prevented. I can imagine how difficult it must be for someone to lose someone in such an accident. That's why people shouldn't drink and drive. That's why I don't feel comfortable drinking and then driving. That's also why I don't feel comfortable drinking a lot. It is very dangerous.

That is why I do refuse to drive on festive seasons! no because I drink that much...but to me if you are going to drive...one drink is one too many...period, there is not excuse for it...I usually keep some cash at home so if some one drink too much I can pay a taxi for them to go home.

I will not drink and drive! And I will be careful in driving. My husband is not into those actions too. He's a good driver with good values in driving too. Nothing to worry me. You are making a difference in your campaign. Thank you. Life is still good despite what you had. Cheer-up my friend!

It is really so annoying to find someone drinking and driving. When one is under the influence of liquor, his calculations become erratic and terribly delayed. Here accidents will happen sooner or later. Either he will kill, or he will get killed. I really wish that the government would impose the heaviest penalties for this offense.

Sorry to hear that. It's necessary to ban drunk driving with great strength, and it's for the safety of the driver himself and also others. And there should be some laws on banning drunk driving with an obvious punishment, which would make more drivers aware of the danger of drunk driving. This is really an activity for several drivers, but all the drivers.Only when they have all realized the danger of drunk driving can we have enough safety in traffic!

We the myLot family understand your sorrow and are with you in it. And we also admire the sense of purpose you have drawn from the pain you have suffered to caution people about DUI. I am sure you have succeeded in getting the message across and even if you have saved one life it is a huge homage to your son.

I am sorry to hear that, and you should have your condolence. I understood that many teens don't even understand the danger of driving and drinking, even texting or chatting while driving. I despise them, because they ignore their safety while also maybe ruin someone else's life. So, I will agree with you, never drink and drive.

I'm also a mother and I'm truly sorry about your loss. I would never imagine what I'll be if something happen with my 2 girls. I'm not drinking nor smoking. I've never picked up my cellphone when it's ringing while I'm driving. I'm very concerned about mine and other safety. I'll spread your message. Stay strong.
