OMG! I just got the surprise of my life. My daughter and son in law bought me a Sony ereader for Christmas. It does audio books and regular books and a lot more. It has free books and books you can buy. I'm charging it right now. It's WiFi... so they got a wirelesxs router so it will have internet connection. I still have my ereader on my phone that I love.. but this is neat because I can see a whole page at a time. With my arms being weak like they are it is difficult to hold a book open... it's very tiring.. so this is totally blowing me away... I had a heart attack in a good way!
Have you got an early Christmas present? My daughter can't keep a secret..

We stopped by to drop off the grandchildren's Christmas presents, so we received our Christmas present from our son and his wife, or I should say the whole family.
They have us gift checks to Aldi's for groceries, all I could say was wow. They gave us one gift check for each month. That is just mind blowing. We are so very greatful and blessed.

Thank you. We were totally shocked. We go to our local pantry every 2 weeks, and occasionally pick up something we need at Aldi's or maybe Walmart. So many people shop at Aldi's now a days, even those that are more well off than we are. They too know that they can save alot of money. Plus we have found that the food is very good there, they keep changing things and the quality has gotten much better in the food then when we started going there. I have gone to Sav a Lot in another city years ago and it reminds me alot of Aldi's.
I had all I could do not to let tears come to my eyes, all we could do is say thank you, and Wow.
It definitely means alot from us. I forgot to mention our daughter and son-in-law also sent us 2 gift checks too to Aldi's. So we have enough for 14 months, but have to use them up in a years time. Using one per month will be more than what we have spent in a few years.
Hugs

Oh.. all I can say is WOW!!! You are so fortunate. I’m so proud for you. We don’t have an Aldie’s here near us. We have Save a Lot, but my SIL won’t shop there. I would and have a lot when I was living by myself. They shop only at Ingles. I’m so proud for you for this gift. It means a lot to have this. It just brings tears to my eyes. I’m so happy for you.

That is just too wonderful! Wouldn’t I love a year or more worth of gift checks and cards at a grocery store. I would love it.

I've been thinking of getting one of those. I love to read and it gets tiresome carrying a book around with me everywhere I go. I know you are going to enjoy yours.
I have been doing some research and right now I'm thinking of getting a tablet instead of an ereader. I am trying to streamline the number of electronic devices I use. If I can get a tablet that will let me combine the features of a reader and a laptop that would be awesome.

I certainly have gotten lots of hours of enjoyment already. I draw on it too. I really enjoy drawing pictures on it. It’s so much fun.

I have an eReader on my phone too.. it was a free app, and I buy books for it. I would have never bought an eReader for myself due to the expense… but I’m so glad I have it. It has more words to the page than what is on my phone… so I don’t have to ‘turn’ the page so often. I love both of them. Mine was $99 and he had to buy the wifi router to make it work… I also can get online with it like a tablet… but it is black and white… I am not going to complain for the price they paid.

Nope, no early presents. I do not really expect anything at all. I usually just buy what I want when I want it if I have the money. I am so glad to hear that they got this for you. It will be a real blessing, I know.

I’m still at the edge of tears Gerty. I am so blessed to have this… and it took more than buying the eReader.. he had to buy the wifi router so that it would work… so this wasn’t cheap. I’m on a roller coaster for sure.. was so frustrated last night and now on cloud 9!

It sounds like he is a good guy who does not know how to show it sometimes or worries a lot. I hope you all can come to a consistent solution about the food, and I wish you many happy reading hours. I bet it makes you feel good every time you see it.

It does.. they made my day with that. They know how I love to read and how difficult it is for me with my eyes the way they are and my arm being so weak... so this is such a godsend to me.

Oh yes, I got myself a gorgeous leather handbag. It's big and roomy and I can find things. It has a short and a long strap so if needed I can wear it on my back, across my chest. It's blue and it was an incredible bargain...from $400 down to $135. Such a great investment.

Oh wow! That is really a great buy! My daughter collects purses. She has her closet full of them. I bet she has about 70 of them. Whenever I want to change purses I just ask her if I can use one of hers for awhile. She never spends more than $30 for purses. She would LOVE to find a buy like yours though. I know if her hubby would let her she would spend over $100 on a purse.

Oh wow that's fantastic. That was so sweet of them to get you such a considerate & quite impressive gift like that. I heard that they were pretty cool to have & that would make it easier on you to read books. I am very happy for you. I bet you just can't wait to start using it huh? ....LOL Can't say I blame you

This is a godsend! I have an eReader on my phone.. I didn’t think I’d ever get a Kindle or a Sony or anything because I can’t afford it. I got the free eReader on my phone.. and you buy the books to download.. but this is over the moon. I can also get audio books, newspaper articles and lots of other stuff that I don’t even know about yet. Sean looked to see about it and was quite impressed with it. He bought the WiFi router so that I could operate it too.
I have weakness in my right arm and it is very difficult to open and read a regular book anymore. My arm and had gets very tired.. so I started using my phone as the ereader… now I have this.. and I’m so grateful. I have my first book downloaded into it… so when I get done with my ebook that I’m reading now, I will start reading it. It’s so much easier than reading real books, because I just can’t manage them easily anymore. I worry about MS but I guess it is just a pinched nerve in the neck.

Congratulations on the gift. This sounds exciting. I know with my HTC Evo I could download books, etc. on it. Just have not considered trying it though. I would Love to have a EReader for sure as then I would not have an excuse to say I never get time to read anything. Since having Cataract surgery 2 1/2 yrs. ago I can see without glasses for the most part. Just need them anytime I read, especially when it is smaller print, and hard to hold a book sometimes anyways.

It's hard for me to hold books too. My family knows the nerve problems I have where I can't hold a book open. I can't read the print without wearing magnifiers. Wrth the eReader I can set the font size. I can even change the font to whatever style I want. I can even get books from the library. I don't know how that works yet. I bought and downloaded another Jude Deversux book. I have one in my phone and one in my Sony.

Hahaha! Congrats! I'm so glad your daughter can't keep a secret! What an awesome surprise! What kinds of books to you like to read?
I got two early gifts so far. One is a tribble (from Star Trek) that squeals and vibrates like when a Klingon is near. The other is that I'm going to be a grandmother in August. I can't imagine anything topping THAT one!
But, I do know about another gift I'll be getting, kinda. My son (the soon-to-be daddy) has bought me a Nook. It's an eReader that sounds very similar to the one you just got. I can get internet, read emails, watch movies, read books, etc. I know about it because my son asked me if I'd like one before he bought it because he didn't want to spend that much ($250) on something I wouldn't use much. I've always been a stick-in-the-mud about reading real books but my problem is that they take up so much room. I already have 2 5-shelf bookcases full of books and really don't have the space for more. I like to buy books so I can read them at my leisure and not feel pressured to get them back to a library. Now, with the eReader, I'll have all the time I need and not take up any more bookshelves!
The more I hear and read stories like yours, the more anxious I am to get mine. At least I only have a little over a day to wait now.

Hey, PQ! I DO love it!!! I haven't bought any books yet (because I'm stuck on the stupid games I bought and downloaded
) but I have watched some movies.
The movies I get are from Netflix. It's a standard app on this Nook but I have the feeling that you could probably put Netflix on your Sony eReader. (It costs $8/month, a lot cheaper than renting movies!)
I think once everything gets back to normal (Christmas decorations put away, etc.) I'll start looking at the books. My Nook has "free Friday" which means I can get one book free every Friday from Barnes & Noble. Maybe I'll check them out this Friday. I may not have time to read any books just yet but I can get an idea of what's available and, hopefully, learn how to navigate through all the titles. My old brain doesn't like learning new things these days.

Oh Mentalward. You will live it. I'm not sure about what mine does. Sean said it does a lot. I know I can borrow books from the eLibrary and I can buy the newspaper on it and I can buy audio books. I'm not sure about movies. Mine was about $149 so it probably doesn't do movies. I'm so happy though. He had to get a wifi router too for it to work. It's the best Christmas I have ever had.

Wow! That’s great! Mine doesn’t do all that. I do like drawing pictures on my eReader… it’ has a place for handwriting. It has a stylette (sp) for writing and drawing.. so I have fun with that too. I have bought 2 books for it. I love Jude Deveraux, so I want to read all of her books before I go onto another favorite author.

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Yes I am very grateful for them. Sometimes there are stressful times but they live me. I also got another surprise. Sean bought a different TV package that had my favorite channels. I now can get the SOAP channel and the science channel and Animal Planet and others. I missed those channels so much. Now I can watch my soaps on weekends too!

Wow that's a lovely gift!
It sure will be fun reading from there. And you won't have to keep a lot of books beside you.

That's right. I can't handle books very well sometimes. I have trouble holding them due to weakness in my arm and hand. It's so much raise with an eReader.
