When It Comes Down To A Big Dilema

Between having to endure extra pain due to having Fybromyalga and this Chronic wound it is an interesting dilema. My regular doctor is encouraging me to up the amount of the Nurontin that I am taking to help with the Fibromyalga, but due to the excess swelling causing the chronic wound to not get any better than just sitting at a stand still pretty much for now, this is a big thing to think about.
If I take the nurontin as I am supposed too, I am in a lot less pain, and this means no chest pains, no migraines, or other types of headaches, etc. It does at times raise my Blood pressure a little more, and raise my Sugar levels sometimes, but the overall way I feel is a lot better. But the wound care center is saying this might be causing too much edema which is not Good for the swelling around the wound to where it cannot try to heal like it should, and want me to stay at the lowest dose possible for now.
So in reality this means I would hurt more, and maybe the wound will heal? A pretty big dilema, and hoping somehow a miracle would eventually happen so this wound would be healed for good. It has started getting better again, but we will see if this continues to progress this time.

That is a very hard decision to make. I also have fibromyalgia and recently was put on neurontin for pain but I did not like how it made me feel (drunk) so I stopped it. Several times I have had to stop meds that help my pain because of other side effects. Maybe you could try the low dose road for a while to see if the wound starts to heal. If it does, maybe wait til it heals completely and then go back to the increased doses of neurontin. i know it is bad to have to choose the extra pain (BELIEVE ME I KNOW) yet an unhealed wound can be dangerous. By the way, have you tried any antidepressants for fibro? I have tried several and while they do help greatly with the pain, They cause another problem that is harder to tolerate. I really feel for you and hope something else will work.

How frustrating!!
I hope the wound heals so you can up the level of Nurontin and feel better. I would concentrat on the adema and get that wound healed. Ugh!

I still have not been given any pain killers yet for fibromyalgia and I am getting a bit tired of that.

There always seems to be something, doesn't it? How is your diet coming? I have been able to lose 30 lbs and my blood sugars sure are showing it too, they are really coming into manageable levels.
I have been lucky in that I have been finding fruits on sale and able to increase my intake of fresh ones. I think this has helped a lot too.
I hope that you can get the swelling to come down as it will make you feel better too.

What a terrible dilemma that is. I could not imagine having to make that choice. Pain or the wound. I can not imagine the pain that someone with your condition faces but I have heard that it is almost unbearable. I can see why it is a hard choice. I can't fairly say what I would do but it does sound like something has got to be done about that wound. I don't understand why they have not been able to do something in all this time. You make me want to call and cause all kinds of ruckus for people. I know that diabetics have a hard time healing but this has gone on for months. I wish you luck in whatever you decide and I hope that both issues can be addressed. I hate it that you are going through all this.

Hi there Tina,
I’m thinking and praying for you a lot sweet one! I am really praying that you can stop being insulin resistant in your cells …. I think that is what is causing those stasis ulcers. I’m thinking of possible reasons for this to keep being a long drawn out process for you… you shouldn’t have to suffer for so long from this wound not healing. It could be medication … but I wish there was something that would be just the right combination to start your wound to healing.

That would be a hard decision to make. Your regular doctor should know if the medicine would affect your wound. If he doesn't know maybe you should see what a pharmacist thinks. For a few days anyway, I would go for less pain, at least you won't have as much pain over the holidays. Hope you have a great holiday either way!
