Anyone Cruised to Alaska?

My hubby and I are planning an Alaska cruise in September. I called our Cruise specialist and asked him which month would be warmer May or September. My husband thought may but our specialist said September. I figured it would be that month. Anyway the question I have is of course you want a balcony because of all the beautiful scenery you are going to see. Question is, what kind of clothes do you need to bring? I assume it will be pretty chilly but do you need full coats and such to enjoy sitting out on the balcony? I have only been to Mexico on both sides and naturally its warm down there. But I am totally unprepared for a trip to alaska. I do know how cold it gets in Canada from visiting my girlfriend. If anyone has cruised in the past to Alaska please give me some tips and what cruise line did you do the alaskan cruise on? I have cruised on the Princess Cruises before and am considering Princess or Norwegian. Any suggestions from past cruisers? Thanks!

I think that Alaska stays pretty chilly, even during the cruise season. My grandma went a few years ago in June I think. She had to buy a heavier jacket since it was so cold. Definitely pack warm clothing, it won't be anything like Mexico lol. I think princess is a good cruise line for Alaska. A few years ago my family went to Hawaii and we used Norwegian . I'm sure whatever cruise line you choose will work out fine. I think that on Alaskan cruises its more of an older crowd and you dont get as many teens and young party people.

Thanks for your help looks like hubby and I both may have one bag each LOL I figured it would be pretty chilly when you are around glaciers and snow. We are not going til 2013. WE are going to save for it. Thanks again for your insight into it.

I've known a couple of people who went on cruises to Alaska, but both of them when in July or August. I suspect you might want to pack layers, that way you can only wear what you need and be comfortable.

We thought we would wait for the kiddy critters to go back in school and maybe there would not be as many. We won't get to go til 2013 we have to save for it and this one will include flying to Seattle. So its not just a jump in a car and drive 5 to 7 hours. I plan on this one being a nice cruise

I guess it really depends on what part of Alaska you are cruising. If it is Southeast Alaska, it probably doesn't make much difference because it is like the Pacific Northwest where it rains a lot and the temperature is mild all the time (at least it was when I graduated high school back in 1978). If it is near Anchorage or South Central Alaska, May might have been better. When and where did (or will) you go? Either way, you might want to check with your travel agent to see what the weather is in the areas that the boat will be going. Weather can be unpredictable that time of year depending on how far north you are!.

Wow, that is my dream too. I have read up on Alaska but have not started to plan yet. How is the trip? Will you go again? I think there are some people who manage to get a low price because they are members of the casino on board the cruise.
