Are you in a hurry to select a BR?

I have noticed that many mylotters select the BR to their discussions within 4/5 hours after starting the discussion. I wait for atleast a day before selecting a BR because of the time difference in other countries. This gives me a chance to see more responses before selecting the BR. Often it takes me weeks or months to give a BR. What is the shortest time you have waited before selecting the best response to your discussion?

Yes, i have also seen this. Not only newbies but many veterans are also hurry in selecting BR, it really makes me uncomfortable and i suggest them some times at least to wait for a week. I never select before a week but many times i take more than weeks and there are some discussions which are months old to select BR. Its because most posts are same and hard to honor a special one. Have a nice time.

I have seen some members start a lot - repeat a lot of discussions and they do not allot time to respond and also select best response. I feel we must set a limit and decide after that. Compared to not selecting, this one viz. selecting early is nice.

Hi Shibham, Hope you are still on mylot. I have taken a lot of time to respond to this discussion due to my new job now. I am not happy with mylotters selecting their BR in just a few hours time after starting the discussion. This has been happening too often.

I think the mentality is that If you don't give it soon enough, you might not come around to giving it later. We just move on in life. Maybe you might want to share how you go about planning your BR schedule?

I do have a lot of discussions where I still have to give a BR. Because of my work schedule I have not been able to do so for quite sometime now. At present am on leave and intend to clear all my old discussions and give BRs soon.

I don't have a hard and fast rule as to when I choose the best response. For the most part when I choose one it is after the discussion has run it's course and all have weighed in. I have however chosen one BR minutes after the response was posted because the response was so overwhelmingly good.

I believe that we should give everyone a chance to post their response before choosing the BR. Once in a way choosing one immediately on reading a response is okay and I think most of us have done this on atleast one occasion.

I usually wait until the discussion hasn't been active for a day or two. I don't rush into a BR. I guess the shortest time I have waited was about a week.

I wait from anytime from a week to I think a year. Yes at times it has taken a year for me to give a BR. Because of less time for mylotting.

Hi Mayka, i prefer to take my time to select my BR. It is within a few weeks or even a few months before i can even decide which response is the best and most suited my topic of discussion. I think it is better to give some time to decide, as not to give BR to wrong response. I ever give BR to wrong response when in a hurry. Later to realized that there are still some new responses which gives much better answer to my discussion. so, i still prefer to give some time, before i select BR for my discussions.

The shortest time? I think it was around 5 hours.. Well.. It is because I was asking a kind of question and my question had already answered perfectly around that time. So I think I didn't need to wait longer.. But in average, I will choose one BR in around one week. Like you said, it gave me chance to see more responses before selecting one..

Your way of allowing a week's time is good. Unless it is based on fact only we must allow a week for people to respond. I know we can respond even after BR is selected.

Anyway, based on my own experience, in most case, when I replied to a discussion which is older than 2 weeks, the discussion starter wasn't replying me back..

I have never given a BR in less than a day. Usually best to wait a few days. Of course the longer you wait, the more likely your are to forget.

The unresolved discussions are there in our home page. So there is no question of forgetting about it. We only have to make time and go through those discussions and responses and mark the BR. There are some who religiously do so once a week so there is no pile up.

I don't select the best response so soon. Usually I will decide which will be the best response after one week. Since I need to give enough people to share their opinions. And one week can be enough and it is fair for everybody. After one week, I will find some time to review all the responses so that I can choose which is the best. I want to be fair. The best response is as my appreciation to the people who responded to my discussions. So I need to be careful to it. I love China

hi mayka I see that too and it disturbs me as I see that a lot of people give this to one of their top friends no matter how good or bad the response really is. in the guidelines they ask us to wait a week. I never give am best response until after a week or t en days as a lot of my friends may be busy and not have time to see my discussion so I try to give everyone more time to see and read it. then I can pick my br out of many more responses. I think a lot of those who give a br in two hours or less are actually paying back some friend her who gave them a br. thats not really fair as we are supposed to be adults here and give everyone a fair chance at a b.r.Granted it does not pay anyone but its just a nice gesture to make a fellow mylotter feel good for awhile .

Once in a great while I will select a response that is just outstanding on the first reading. Most of the time I wait until the last response is a couple of days old.

Well I do not start many disscussions and I have never picked a BR or best response for any of my little disscussions. I just forgot about it and never taught it necessary. I mostly respond to disscussions now and rarely ever start a disscussions. I think people should wait atleast a day like you said but mostly likely a week to wait for different time zones and different people to find it. If they even choose to pick on or remember to!!

I think you should go to your discussions and give a BR to the best response. You would be making someone happy. All of us like getting a BR when we have taken so much trouble of writing something nice.

mayka: I select best response nowadays after say four weeks after the last response. That means I take a lot of time to decide. some people decide immediately when they are overwhelmed by the particular response. I did it initially and in such cases I use to go by the first response other things remaining constant. However BR doesn't carry any weightage except it gives a phillip to the member concerned. I will be good some reward is linked to BR also.

Actually I haven't chosen a BR in my discussions. I just neglect in giving who has the best response although I have seen who really exerts efforts in giving responses. Next time I will select who is fitted to have BR.

Hello mayka, sometimes I forget to select a best response on my discussions so there was this one time when I got back to all of my discussions and selected the BR. So I think it was a couple of days after the discussions were posted. But when I find a perfect answer, I will definitely rate it BR regardless of how many hours the discussion has passed.

Personally unless it is a discussion that I have recently started and only a few select people have decided to respond back in here, or someone responds back with something that really feels like what I have been wanting for that discussion, I usually find myself waiting quite a while before choosing a Best Response. I feel it is worth giving some time to have everyone who might want to respond and then go over everyone's answer and choose one I think fits, or I really like. The ones who choose them right away I feel are often cheating themselves and someone else from possibly posting something better.

Hi mayka! I usually take at least one day to select the best response. I have never selected any BR on the first day of starting a discussion. You are very right that due to time difference all our friends should be allowed to at least see the notifications of our discussions so that they could respond. If I select a BR within few hours of starting a new post, others will feel discouraged to respond to my post and I'll be deprived of their considered views.

I've seen this too! I once visited a discussion where there were only four responses and the best responsewas already chosen! It was the first response, no less! I don't understand the hurry. I. On the other hand, usually forget to pick a best response!
