I did not have the money nor the energy to buy gifts for everyone for Christmas. I went through the chemo with honors, but after it I was left very tired. So I bought toys for the little kids and decided to make cupcakes for the teens and grownups. So I baked and baked, a little at a time, with different recipes. I brought a big bag full of cupcakes to my daughter´s home on Christmas eve. My daughter said we´d take out part of them before dinertime because we give out the presents before diner so the smaller children can enjoy them. I handed out 3 plates full of them and they disappeared among applauses. So I had to keep on filling the dishes until they were all eaten. THey all said it was the best present I could posibly have given them. I was SO happy!!! Do you have a story about a successfull baking you wouls like to share? If you don´´t bake, does any member of your family do it? Tell us!

I have always wanted to learn baking but when I was young this facility was not available to me."Better late than never" isn't it? Now I know to bake ; I have a microwave ovenw ith 'convestion' in it and I diligently watch cookery demonstrations. There are a few experts in baking and I have noted down their recipes and my cashew cookies, ginger biscuits, butter biscuits, coconut cookies are supposed to be divine as certified by my family. I follow instructions very strictly and this is the reason for my success.

If you can follow a recipe, you can learn how to cook almost anything. Three years ago I has a problem in my shoulder and stayed at home all Summer. I watched a lot of cooking channels and learnt how to make sushi. Baking is the same.

I love to bake and I love to bake even more if it's a gift! Glad your cupcakes went over well, I'm sure they were great because they were made with love :) For Christmas, my mom requested my chocolate dipped cookies. I just make nestle chocolate chip cookies and then dip half of them in melted chocolate. I made them 1x before and the family went nuts over them. So my mom special requested them this year. Even when I don't chocolate dip them, my mom always requests my chocolate chip cookies. I guess I made them so much that I have it down pat :) I can usually make them without even reading directions, but I do anyway just to be sure. Today I spent the whole day (on and off) making Chicken Enchiladas. We are going to my mom's tomorrow and that's another meal I made 1x and everyone loved it so much that now they request it. I love to try new recipes, but it is nice to have something everyone actually ASKS for!

I know what you mean. I love to cook and I love more when someone asks me to cook for them. Now I have a duty for the next Christmas: make lots of cupcakes.

My sister used to come to town and start baking. She'd make these tea rings for all of my mom's neighbors and some other friends. My sister is a good baker. I make a mean soup, but that's not always something you want to give as a gift.

Baking is the sort of thing that saves the day on holidays. But if it is cold, a hot soup is more welcomed than anything else in the world. Not to serve as a gift maybe, but to make everyone cozy.

Aww! That was so nice of you! I know the feeling It seems I am always braoke at Christmas time! That sounded like a very nice thing that you did. All that baking1 Sheeew! I bet you were tired! Me and my mom had bought those Cookie Tins at the dollar store and instead of putting the cookies in it we put some different kinds of Mexican Candies in it for my aunt and uncle and they just loved it!

That sounds awesome, friend. As for me, if wasn´t so tiring as I baked one batch each day. I cannot do a lot in the same day now because I have little energy. So I must do a bit and rest.

That is great that everyone loved your cupcakes. It goes to show that it isn't all about money or big gifts. I used to bake a lot but gave it up over the past ten years or so. I still do a little but nothing like I used to.

I feel the same way. To me a lot of love goes into baking and cooking. I know my sons love it when I make them hamburger gravy. It is simple but they like it and that is what matters.

That's so good. A gift that involves our hard work and good feelings is always the best and a lot better than any market brought gift. It's a great feeling to see your thing getting so much appreciated. Keep it up.

I always make jams and chutneys for the growups. But this Christmas I wanted to make something for the older kids as it is so difficult to buy them something with little money. They loved it.

hmmm cup cakes, I love them, I love the way some people decorate them, they decorate them in such a way they are just too hard to resist, and seeing as I am not a good cook I would love cup cakes given to me for Christmas.

I haven't done any baking in years! When I was in high school, I used to bake lots of things, especially bread. I'm glad that you were able to keep everyone happy by doing the baking. It is nice to be able to do that. My niece did make cookies here a couple of times while she was visiting, but other than that, there was no baking.

I Am so glad your cupcakes were so welcome! I'm sure they know you made them with love and nothing tastes better than that! I did not much baking this year in fact on Christmas day[ I only had a chance to put the turkey in the oven] before my girls chuck me out of the kitchen! they did every thing including cleaning after wards! so I was a pretty girl for the day. Wishing you and family the best for 2012 big hug.

You must be proud of your girls! It is wonderful to just sit and have fun. I remember when I did everything, many years ago, and I ended up very tired although I was a lot younger.

Kids love to ask for a certain kind of cake and get it. They feel SO special! Maybe you could post here a picture of one of your cakes. We would get to see them and comment and you would have yet more participation

I like to bake once in a while but I prefer to make the mail courses. This year I made cupcakes instead of presents and everyone loved it. I will have to do it again.
