Last week I heard on my local news that people who place their laptops on their laps can get radiation poisoning or something and of course after hearing that I thought oh great! something else to be concerned about come on it's way beyond the new millenium, and they are still make laptops and other electronic devices out of dangerous material sigh! it seems like the electronic makers would have found a way to make these kinds of devices safer for consumers. first I can get radiation from my cellphone now my laptop is unsafe too really! So is that true or is it another false alarm? or maybe most of you already knew about the safety hazard and radiation issues please share your knowledge and other thoughts on this news thank you good people. Well if this news is true I'm sure I unintentionally poisoned myself from lack of knowledge I mean over six months of placing my laptop on my lap, just a habit that I would have broken had I known.

The dangerous part is not because there are something poisoning or what, but because of the heat of laptop. When you put laptop in your lap, the laptop will accumulate more heat because the heat ventilation is disturbed than when the laptop is put in the floor or table. The dangerous part is, the heat could cause someone become unfertile if you use it for a long time and also overheat could damage our laptop parts. That's why they say it is dangerous to use laptop placed on our lap and better placed it on table. Well, i think it's better to follow those suggestion because its better to play safe besides it could minimized the heat accumulated in the laptop. ^_^ Happy mylotting..

Laptop poisoning? It is possible by exposing too much to electronic stuff where there are chemicals used during the process of producing the component or part of the electrical appliances. Laptop is the most used by people nowadays, and there are research done on it that if you were to place it on your lap for a long period, for men, it will affect your reproduction ability. Others known symptom is you will get burn mark on your lap due to the heat produced by the laptop, you will see reddish on your leg your lap after exposing to the heat produced by the laptop for a very long period. It is always good to avoid long period direct contact with electronic product in order to expose to such a risk.

There are several reasons why you should not use a laptop on your lap but should always place it on a hard, flat surface such as a table. The first is that laptops can become quite hot and they must have adequate ventilation. Using them on a lap or any soft surface, such as bed coverings is bad because it restricts proper airflow, might actually burn you, if you have it on your lap and could even cause a fire (though most laptops have a cut-out which means that the machine will stop working before that level of heat were reached). Secondly, if you use a laptop on your lap, you are not sitting at all in an ideal position for working or viewing the screen. If you are using a PC for long periods, the position of the arms and the body and the distance of the screen from the eyes is important. Everyone who uses a PC should be aware of this, even if they don't always follow it! Thirdly, like mobile phones, laptops are radio emitters. The Wifi connection built in to most laptops broadcasts radio waves in the 2.4GHz band (actually the same range of frequencies used by microwave ovens). Although the power is very low - far too low to cause any perceptible heating even in objects very close to the aerial - it is not wise to use a laptop (or a mobile phone) for extended periods close to the body. Power reduces according to the square of the distance. If you double the distance of the power source, you receive only a quarter of the power, so the difference between using a laptop on a table and using it directly on your lap is quite considerable. There is, so far, no real evidence that the radio emissions from a laptop used on the lap can affect fertility or do any other long-term damage but it is better to be safe than sorry and, in any case, the other considerations (of bad posture and of overheating) mean that it is very sensible to always use a laptop on a table.

Hi apples99, What I noticed is that when things get so popular, there will be news about these things being unsafe to use or that these gadgets have radiation. There are a lot of things/devices that has radiation. Too much use of it or exposure may cause us harm but so far I haven't heard about someone being affected of it.

I have heard about something like that before but no one has ever proved whether it is true or not. I just hope is just another false alarm as that could mean that most of us are already exposed to radiation.

I've not heard of this one yet but I have read about the poisoning from laptop when you put it in the bed and it overheats. It's a good thing that we are aware of these effects to prevent harm from happening. Try also to check out www.lifo.com.
