For those of you who have been wondering, my youngest son's appeal has been approved! Sorry it took so long for the update, but my husband and I only found out recently ourselves.
I couldn't have done it alone. The specialist my son is seeing helped as well. I don't know the exact details, but apparently he found out I had written the appeal and he pushed for it to be approved.
Needless to say I'm happy that it went through!
By the way, for those of you who are wondering what I'm talking about, you can see the discussion here: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2551557.aspx?p=1
Thank you for your support!

I have never had to write an official sort of document like that. I'm glad you had someone to help you. The specialist would be able to help you best describe what your son's condition is. I'm glad your appeal has been approved. I only wish that more people had the happy outcome you did.

I have written so many official letters in the past but couldn't remember writing a letter of appeal. I guess writing an appeal letter is not easy as you have to appear to be in a desperate situation to earn sympathy to get a nod of approval. You are lucky to get an approval from the authorities concerned.

You're right, it's not easy. What made it even harder was that they don't want a letter that is pleading, but I couldn't help avoid it. It's my little boy's life we're talking about, after all.

Thank goodness for the World Wide Web. If it wasn't for that I would have never known where to start either.

No, sacmom, I have never written an appeal but way ta go to you. I wasn't aware of your family's struggles but can appreciate the serious of it. Keep up the fight and never give up caring and protecting the rights of your son. If I ever do have occasion to write an appeal, I shall keep in mind the path you have taken to come up with a positive result; congratulations.

U are so lucky, having the specialist doctor to push it through for him. Some doctors ain't that kind, when their purpose is to save many lives, not just only one
I'm happy for u and your brother.. haha ^^

hi sacmom I am glad it has b een approved and you can get
the medical help your son needed. I did write an appeal to get Ssi and It was approved as I was made homeless and am physically handicapped with diabetes ,I was living with my adult son in a two bedr oom apt when he got laid off his job, we got behind in the rent and were ev icted,. winning t he appeal mean I had enough with my social security and ssi checks to be able to live here in Gold /rest retirement center so i would not have to stay on the
street. my son finally has got a full time job bu t not yet able to rent another expensive two bedroom apt ye t.

I am happy to hear that your appeal was accepted. I am now happy that your son can get the medical treatment he needs. That's what I hate about medical insurance. They make you pay a high premium and then they don't want to cover anything.

LOL
