Do you ever consider having a will?

For me, a will is usually a luxury for rich people who afraid that when they die, their assets and properties won't be properly distributed among his/her children. But somehow, people told me that, if you have a child by any chance, it should be a good starting point to consider a will in case of you sudden death, because you are giving a thoughtful guideline to how your spouse or children handle your assets, and whatever left behind them. Also, if there is no will existed, the state might decided for you who will raise your kid, and how your assets will be handled. I don't know if you can self - write your own will by using those online available software, like nolo.com. Would it too complicated to start your own will, or will it be better to ask a lawyer do it for you? What is your thought on this?

Yes. I have considered having a will. It costs alot of money to have one wrote up by an attorney though.

Not really, you can have a lawyer write up a will for about 2 or 3 hundred dollars.

Yes I thought about it. I've even, silly enough, written in a letter and sent to a few of my friends what I want to have happen to my poetic legacy, money (if I have any, at the time) and charitable contributions I would like made. The one thing I haven't done is provide this document to appropriate legal counsel, which, of course, is just ridiculous. I really need to get off my butt and just do it.

My ex and I had wills made up a long time ago. I don't have any money, but I do own a home and a few other things. I was thinking not long ago, I should change it. Everything has changed, he is my ex now and his sister (who I haven't heard from in years, eventhough we stayed friendly after the divorce) is the executor.

I've been meaning to get a will for the longest time. It's one of those things that I keep putting off. I know I should get a will so that when I do pass on, whoever would handle my estate would know who would take care of my kids. And maybe something to the effect of not burdening my kids with all of my worldly debts.

If you have some assets, it is important to have a will. This can help in solving future disagreements that arise among family members or state. Either using a lawyer or writing your own will be appropriate.

I was watching this documentary on Warren Buffet, one of the richest people of the world, and it was said that he had made it very clear that he won't let his kids have his money. Then his kids (Grown up) were asked the question and they reciprocated the thought by saying that it was his money, his hard work and they didn't see any reason why they should get that. If I have to leave a will, I will leave it for my wife, if I have a deadly disease. I will want my kids to do their own hard work and not think forward to living off their father's money.

I believe everyone should have a will, even to just let people know what you want, especially if you have a child, I guess it depends on the laws of your country about the making of a will but here in Australia you can get home kit wills and so long as you fill them out correctly they can be fine...I personally think the Governments should make will making free so to save them more trouble later on.

I'm still too young and still dependent to my father but I thought that having a will is a good thing. At least it'll be your last message you can give. I think that having a will does not necessarily mean you need to have a large amount of money. And the will may not necessarily only contain things about assets and materials with monetary value. The reason why a letter is called "will" because it contains "what the person, who wrote it, wants", last will is the "final favor/wish of the person who wrote it". I think you can write your own will then hide it somewhere or let it be taken care by someone you trusted to be opened only when the time is right. To legalized it, you can have an attorney do that. But the main purpose for the attorney in the finalization of the will, as far as I know, is to be your witness on its creation as well as for it's execution. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I don't live in your country so I am not familiar with your system so please excuse me my limit in knowledge. Happy MyLotting!

I've thought about it, but I really don't have any money to leave behind for my loved ones. I do have a lot of things that I collect, but they are not worth very much money. I thinking having a will would be a good idea for someone who has a lot of money. Then that person can divide up their money & leave it to whomever they wish to.

I had a will written 10 years ago. Now I can see that it was not such a good idea. Because the way it looks now, I am not going to have any money left to leave to other people.

I am not rich. Certainly you don't have to be to leave loved ones something. After all the will distributes material goods and all of us have one or two items to spare. I currently don't have any kids. I would definately consider taking out a will for my kids when the time comes. Or even putting away for their education. I haven't really looked into the online software. So I can't comment on that! Have a great day!
