Oh my! I've only been away from my computer for two weeks and I'm already finding it difficult to post discussions on MyLot, especially anything with a photo attached to it. All I've managed to do is update my profile photo and that took ages!
Oh, well! I shall try again and if this doesn't work I shall give up until tomorrow.
Anyway, below is (hopefully) a pic of my knitted doll that my Dad brought home for me from the Club a few weeks ago. I wasn't expecting to like him so much (and his girlfriend has been given away by my Mum) but I actually DO like him as he's so well-made and colourful. The most amazing fact about this doll is the fact that an 80 year old lady made him!
As you can see he is a painter and decorator, carrying a ladder and a paint brush, with a pot of glue on his head!
It's great that a lady who is getting on in years can still make such wonderful items such as this, it must give her great pleasure to do so.
Let me know what you think of him and whether or not he should have a new friend in future! I reckon he looks a bit lonely.

I think that doll is awesome knowing that an 80 year old woman made it. It is extremely detailed. I think he looks a little lonely, so maybe you could go and get him some company. A girl doll or a helper doll. LOL. I want to say Happy New Year and have a wonderful year to come. Also, with this doll, put him in some poses and take some funny pictures with him. That might cheer him up a bit.

Good idea! I've learned how to put the timer on the camera now (Mum's useless with it as, even though the camera has a SCREEN she still manages to cut my head off)
so I could place the camera on the dressing-table opposite, set the timer..and pose with the doll. I must make sure there are no cats in the vicinity, otherwise they will take over the shot and probably maul the doll as well.
You're gonna have to wait until February though.

Hello my friend. Mum broke them up because she honestly thought I wouldn't like them. Why, I don't know because I love this doll sooo much! When I first set eyes on him he made me smile and the picture of him has made others smile too. He has a magical quality about him, don't you think?

The artists give the inanimate material the life. There are a variety of handcraft articles here such as dough figurines ,clay figurines which are all to the life.

21/2 feet tall?? He is huge!! What a clever lady - I sure wish I could do such wonderful work. I'm wondering if there are a series of them...maybe a gardener, a fireman and so on. The possibilities are endless I guess.
I really envy and also admire people who are so creative and talented.

The height is a wild guess but I'm definitely going to measure him next time I'm at Mum's, start of February.
Anyway, you're right, no matter what his height the lady who made him has done an awesome job.
I wouldn't know where to start!

He is really cute and so detailed. I bet making it was time consuming. How tall is this doll, and I don't suppose you have the pattern to make him.
I have a pattern for the little old lady who lived in the shoe. There is the pattern of the shoe, the lady, and all her kids. It really doesn't take very much yarn or stuffing to make but it takes a full 20 hours to complete. I timed it to see if it would be cost effective to make and sell.

I didn't measure the doll but I reckon he's about 2 and a half feet tall. Unfortunately - no, I don't have the pattern but I'd love to see how he was made, that's for sure!

Hiya Janey,
Wow he is so cute and so well made too. I love all that kind of craft but I am not good at making things like that but she really is good at Crafts.
He looks so real as well.
I like all the detail as well that must take some doing very intricate.
Wonderful gift for anyone at any age.xxx

Hello! I'm so glad you like my new friend. I wouldn't know where to start making such a doll. In fact, I'm so hopeless at knitting in general I can't even follow a pattern, although I can do knit one, pearl one..that type of thing but it never amounts to anything worthwhile!

Hiya Janey,
I can do that too I have made a few things. Knitting is so relaxing I fall asleep almost if I am tired enough.
There is so little iniciative here that you would have to dedicate and really want to make those things as well as there are no Shops here now that sell Wool except for the Craft ones and they don´t really sell a lot either.
You probably can do it Janey the same as me but you have to like doing it as well you have to have a love of those things but I don´t go that deep not now at least.
Maybe I could start all over again but right now I don´t feel like it.xxx

This is so Cute. The woman who made this did an awesome job. I know if I were you, I would want to be adding on to my collection. He could use a couple of other friends for sure. Actually this could be the start of a Great collection for sure.

This sounds so clever. I have not opened up the part of the discussion with a picture yet. I hope it posted. I hope I make lots of neat things for many more years.

It's wonderful when someone takes the trouble to make something themselves. I reckon with the downturn and everything, home-made crafts will become more popular, I really do.

Happy New Year to you too my friend! When I ring Mum up later on today I shall ask her to ask Dad to "be on the look-out" for a companion to my doll. This would mean I get another surprise the next time I'm there!

He's lovely and beautifully made!
I have a sweet little knitted doll who is a lady artist, complete with easel, a painting and a paint-brush. I think I paid £3.50 for her at a craft fair about five years ago. Even though I offered £5 the knitter wouldn't accept it! The little artist is also beautifully made and I love her as I'm an artist too!
Nobody, even a little doll, should be lonely! Buy him a little friend!

The doll is really cute! Amazing skills people have to knit such lovely doll. My mom knows how to knit as well but she's not really very good at it. She just enrolled in different schools when we're little to learn knitting, dress making, baking, hairdressing... LoL! Those times she was so bored. She made a Santa Claus doll - but it's a slim Santa Claus

Aww, bless her! My Mum used to knit clothes when she was younger but she has poorer vision now so she can't do close work like she used to. I agree that people are so clever. In fact, Mum often remarks at how brilliant a typist I am so I guess we're all good at something.

Hi Janey1966, I think your knitted doll looks great and certainly needs a new friend. You will need to give the 80 year old lady a separate commission! I hope the person who received his girlfriend from your Mum really appreciates her. I used to know a lady who made very similar dolls with more or less the same degree of detail but I have not been in contact with her for a number of years now.

The other doll is appreciated by lots of children in a school's nursery but I'm glad Mum didn't take both of them.
If my Dad has the opportunity to acquire another one I'm sure he'll bring him or her home so I'll have another surprise next time I go to my parents' house!
