Did you hear that huge crash from the direction of Texas yesterday?

That was the sound of me fainting!
The first thing I had to do yesterday morning was put gas in my car. I drove over to Walmart to gas up.
There was like ONE other car in the station - very unusual - but because I didn't want to drive all the way to the other end I just parked next to it.
I looked over and thought: "that looks like Deborah" and looked away. I looked again and decided if it WASN'T Deborah it was someone who looked a LOT like her.
She was busy in her car counting money, but I had my card out to gas up, so I hopped out and went around and started gassing up my car.
I went and grabbed the window washing squeegee and went up front to clean my windshield.
I hear "O MY!"
Yes, it was Deborah!
And we stood out there and talked for 5-10 minutes. I got updated on her and her family and talked a bit about what's going on in my life.
So, why did I faint?
This is the person I retired because of! She made the time I worked in that office difficult and I sure wasn't going to actually WORK under her. Fact is that the ONE month I did work under her was the WORST month of any job I ever had!
And the 2 other times I saw her when I went back to the office she ignored me!
So, I wonder why she was friendly now? Maybe because she's thinking of retiring? What do you guys think?

I think she thinks you know some secret about her that can get her in trouble. . . right? You can blackmail her. Maybe she realizes after all this time that she was in the wrong when you worked under her and she should have kept on your good side so that you would keep her looking good in her job. She regrets that she was so nasty that you left.

Maybe she realized what a witch she was before. Sometimes people are very different away from the work scene too. Maybe that could have been it. Maybe you caught her off guard by your appearance too and she thought she better be nice or you might beat her up
That would have made a big crash too.

that's probably why.i've known people who were complete d*cks at work who were totally different outside of it.either job stress or the power of position made them that way.
either that or something life changing happened that made them realize they weren't being that great of people and could be nicer.

Nah, she doesn't like men, tho she does seem pretty happy with her son-in-law, maybe because he's been called to "the ministry" and helped her get a new car...
I suspect she only got married the second time long enough to get with a baby so she could get more child support - do you think I think she's a calculating b!tch?

She's probably had some things happen to make her realize her treatment of others wasn't getting her anywhere. Maybe, as you say, thinking of retiring and fearful she will be lonely or something. People can be odd. I've always thought I needed to come up with some 'catch all' phrase to use when running into people from our past that we would just as soon pretend we didn't even see..... of course, I'm still trying to come up with it, I will let you know if I come up with the perfect thing. Lol

I think maybe the fact that time has passed and the two of you are no longer working together. I worked for a woman whom I dubbed the boss from hell. I swear the woman was evil. I mean, she had her moments of kindness but she was very difficult to work for. I would have quit but each time I was about ready to, she would give me a raise, making it difficult to find another job without taking a cut in pay. Anyway, I no longer work for her. After a while, I have been able to see her more as a person...not a boss and she the same. I, now, can talk with her when I bump into her and we have some very pleasant conversations. She has said to me that business and friendship do not mix and I think thats true.

Hi Elic,
I'm not sure about the whole situation between the both of you other than what you mention here. It's a very hard question to figure out because some people have motives which no one figures out until later, or their lives are just so miserable they take it out on everyone. Then again, it could be that she has finally realized how impossible she was to work under and has reflected back on her past, and now she wants to make amends. It's like the old saying "No one knows what goes on behind closed doors."
I think it's good you were cordial and talked for a few minutes.

I am afraid you have been a bit exaggerating. At the sight of title,I consider that there was a traffic accident there. You met Deborah by chance in the gas station. You once worked with her and it seems that you didn't get along well with her, because she is a person who rides the high horse. Now she becomes friendly,I guess she is nearly retired. There is no need for her to put on airs.

i think she was friendly to you because you caught her off guard, as people who are bullies are usually cowards underneath, and there she was the only car in the gas station, and she was feeling vulnerable, and possibly even scared there on her own. then another car comes along, she feels a bit worried, and then it turns out its someone she knows. so she is friendly too you, instead of rude, as it was
such a relief it was someone she knew.
people who bully and try to control other people are cowards really, but its not very nice.

maybe because you were outside the work environment she talked to you because she was surrounded by people and now she is on her own she had to talk to you, maybe she was friendly because she was on her own, i don't know it seems that when people are hard to work with they are big mouthed around others, but when faced alone, it's a different story, or maybe just because you don't work there she hasn't anything to be nasty to you about
