I got to wondering how many folks here cook using healthy foods? Do you use lots of fruits and vegetables? Whole grains? Or are you a supermarket chef? I'm a little of both! It helps now that they sell whole grain noodles! The whole wheat is pretty rough, but the whole grain is very good.

I'm alittle of both also. I eat as healthy as i can. My daughter cooks for us and she liked some processed. I have gotten her to fix more vegetables. We eat more fruit in the Summer but eat some in the Winter. I gave up on real healthy and trying to lose weight about a year ago. I am 60, retired and will eat what I want.

Yah, I'm getting to that point too. I'm certainly not as crazy about it as I once was!

My idea of cooking is heating up a microwave dinner.

Ah yes, the blessing of the microwave. If I were single, etc, it would be lean cuisine for me all the way!

I don't believe in all of the hype about what is healthy and what is not, but my eating and food preparation is sure different from most of the people I know. I do not use ANY artificial sweeteners and I have eaten only one donut in the past 20 years. I avoid soda pop and hardly ever fry anything. Yes, I use lots of fruits and veggies and whole grains. I hardly ever eat white bread or pasta. My favorite noodle is the Soba (buckwheat and yam). But I drink whole milk and eat lots of eggs. And bacon! Not lots, but seriously I do think bacon is healthier than a lot of so-called non-fat foods.

Hi flowerchilde, For the most part I try to cook with healthy foods and using healthy methods but there are times when I'll use a jar of sauce/packet mix for convenience or when I'm in a hurry. If I can avoid frying or using oil, I will. It's amazing how you can brown mince (ground beef) without a drop of oil! I bought a slow cooker a few months ago and apart from it being a pleasure to use and the food tasting great, it's a really healthy way of cooking. I don't always have fresh fruit and veg in but make sure I have a supply of frozen. I recently bought a liquidizer which I use to make smoothies most mornings so it's another way of getting a couple of servings of fruit in. I don't mind cooking and if I can at all cook from scratch, I will. Better to know what's in the food we're eating. IrishGal77 :)

I used to make a breakfast shake with a banana, an apple and a pear or an orange, powdered milk and some frozen strawberries. Everyone loved it!
