I received a good job opportunity today but I have to sacrifice my online job..

One of my former co-employees just offered me a Human Resources position in the company she is working for right now, a hotel-casino. The job is 16 hours away from home but the pay and benefits are quite good. I have an online job right now where I also earn good money but not as much as that being offered by the hotel. My friend is giving me a few days to decide. I haven't reached a decision. The offer is fine but I don't want to sacrifice my online jobs and leave home. I would be a stranger in that area and I have to start all over again with a new life in a totally different environment. I left my former job in the HR because of stress and I have found some peace and freedom doing my online jobs. If you were in my shoes, how would you decide? Please help.

Hi Yahnee, It all depends to you. Whatever your heart desire. But if I were in your shoe, then I will stick with my online job. I am happy with my online jobs... (not that many though and I don't earn a lot in here...still searching). I would still prefer to stay at home and be with my family rather go to a far away place in which I am new and stranger. It seems that you really love your online jobs. I really hope you will make the right decision. Choose from the heart. Happy Mylotting...^^

smurfysmurf, you are absolutely right. I love my online jobs and I am earning well from it. Here's the situation, if I resign from the online job, for sure my employer will look for a replacement. If I pursue that job offer, there is no assurance that I will enjoy it no matter if it pays more than the online jobs. Another point I am considering is the totally different environment that I would have to adapt to. It is not easy to make sudden changes that I am thinking of all options before I make the decision.

Whatever your heart desire. You should definitely not just think twice but many times in order to make your final decisions. There are a lot of advantages and disadvantages on both sides...so just weigh on what is really the best. Good luck with your choice. ^^

As a former HR practitioner, I guess you've advised a lot of people on their careers and stuff. But I think that no matter how many pieces of advice you've given, sometimes you get stumped when you're the one faced with a career choice. I think you just have to weigh the pros and cons about it. I usually stick to a simple equation. If the pay and benefits I'd get is more than double the amount of my online earnings, then I'd opt for the full-time job. Otherwise, I won't since there are lots of considerations to take into account like my time spent with my son, the stress I might get, travel and other miscellaneous costs, and a lot more.

Unfortunately, the pay and benefits are not double what I am earning from the online job because the earnings I get from the online jobs are certainly more than enough. The offer is about 35% more than my present earnings. It is just a matter of pride that I am thinking about this job opportunity, since this is one level above the position I used to hold in my previous company. However, I have been with the HR department for 20 years of my life and to tell you the truth I am just so tried and stressed facing all sorts of people in my daily life.

I would say, if it were me, do what you love. Money in this world isn't everything, so you must ask yourself if the extra money would be worth the sacrifices you would be making to get it. If you feel that it's worth it, the go for it, if not, then stick with what you are currently doing. I'm sure your friend would understand if you were turn it down for those reasons.

I think the decision is going to be something that only you can make. We can all give our reasons or opinions but we don't have your exact circumstances. See for me it would be better to stay home because I have my son to think about but that's not a factor in your case. So, I think the only way to decide is search deep inside yourself and decide what you want and figure out what is best for you.

Hi, Yahnee, I don't know if I can give you the right advice, but if I were you, I would accept the new job and here is why. First, as you say, this offer means more money and good opportunities. The online earning means a lot of hours in face of the computer screen which is not so healthy. But more importantly it would be better for you to work amongst people, not to stay alone at home. You mention the stress and the safety of your home. I'd suggest you two books that I've discovered recently: "The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari" and "The Leader Who Had No Title" by Robin Sharma. Here is an opinion about the author: http://www.squidoo.com/robin-sharma I wish you to take the right decision for this job and more importantly - to make the right changes in your life. I think that we all need this, we deserve to discover the best in ourselves and get a better life. Good luck!

Hi fannitia, I sure appreciate your opinion and the books that you have recommended. I just hope I will be able to find these books in the local book stores. This is a difficult decision for me since it involves a total change of environment. I have resigned a year ago from an HR position that I held onto for 20 years of my life. I am thinking if I am still ready to face the same situation all over again.

It really now boils down to what you think works best for you. You mentioned that you value your online job annd is happy with the earnings you get from it... however there is an offer for a stable job but is 16 hours away from your current home... if you are settled in your current home now, then i think leaving is probably not an option. If you do need the money that job will give you, then you might want to consider that.. of course this meant that you leave home. I think your online jobs might be able to wait for you, though once you transfer you can always go online and set it up from there... the only issue is you moving out of the place you are in right now... and that is just the thing you have to consider...

I think it depends on some aspects. First, which paid is better? The new job or the online earning? In fact I am surprised to hear that you can earn good money online since it is very diffuclt to earn more as there are many scams. Second, I wonder whether you are married or even have your children. If you have a family, of course it is not so good to accept a job which is far from your home since you can not go home everyday. This is a big sacrifice to leave your family. I love China

Well, it is entirely up to you. You have to weigh out things carefully. If you are satisfied with your online work, then I think it is definitely great to be at home and be your own boss. However, if your online job is not enough to fill your needs then you have to make that sacrifice and take the company job. Though, you are right, you have to make adjustments and have to work with other people. Human resources is very challenging... you meet a lot of people and you handle different attitude. It takes patience and of course you have to be prepared emotionally and physically. Anyway, whatever you decide, I wish you good luck. I was somehow thinking if there is a way for you to take the job and do the online job on your spare time... That would definitely be great.

Well this is a decision you have to make for yourself, but other than the pay and benefits it doesn't sound like something you want to do. It seems like you are content in what you are doing and where you are living. I think if you find something you enjoy doing then you should keep at it as long as you make enough money for your needs, and to work at home is wonderful.

I don't know how you can earn so much from online world. But it it's stable and can provide you as much, you can just choose the online income. Besides you said so yourself, you left your previous job due to stress and you seems to love your online job. Just my 2 cents.

First of all may i know what online job you do and from there how much you earn? It is definitely not good to go to a far place, 16 hours!!! Just because salary is higher, there you will be spending in house-rent etc more.. so it was a good decision.. Best of luck. Happy posting, cheers. Kalyani

I am into article writing and it pays more than enough. It pays from $1 to $2 per article and I can certainly finish around 10 to 15 articles daily. I didn't accept the job offer and decided to refer one of my closest friends in HR. She has applied for the job and just waiting for the response; however, I received another job offer, somewhere farther away but easily accessible by plane. It will only take about an hour of travel time. I am thinking about this and I am trying to make a decision since, this seems to be a better opportunity. I need to go away for a while due to relationship problems. This may be the opportunity for me to finally move on.

Why, can't you do your online job as part time basis? I recommend you a site were you can earn passively. All you need to do is to make a 300 word article about anything that interest you and you'll get paid everytime someone will read your article. That means, even you are holding your regular day job, you are continuously earing online. Here is the link. you can sign in, you can start right a way once you have signed in; http://expertscolumn.com/referral/657889a5.Happy article writing.

good day yahnee, with reference to your main discussion, really it is quite hard to do a decision especially if you will have to choose between two instances. choosing means you have to leave the other behind and go with the one you have selected. and if i will be in your situation right now, i will choose the job opportunity being offered to me. since the salary pay plus the benefits are really fine as what you have said, so, i will choose that. then maybe i will just continue my online earnings after sometime. perhaps, after i have adjust to the workload and working condition of the new atmosphere. i know this will again another bumper of stress but, just give it a try. hence, you have already the experienced so i believed that you can handle the position swiftly. then after the adjustment time, carry on to your online earnings. after all, as they usually says, there are thousand reasons if we do not like it but there is only one perfect answer if we want it. say a little prayer and surely God will give you the perfect answer. cheers.

Hi Yanee, First and foremost Congratulations! That would be a great opportunity. But deciding whether to grab it or leave it is all up to you. You've already laid down the pro's and cons and you may want to spend more time discerning. Just my two cents, the job that was offer to you won't wait forever so make decisions as soon as possible. =)

If I were in your shoes, I will grab that opportunity offered by your friend. Why? Not all people are given that kind of job offer. You may have an online job, but are you happy with it? Having a work outside your home is nice because it will gave you an opportunity to mingle with other people. You can have an online job during your rest days.

If the money you are getting in the new company is very large than what you are earning now then you should join it, we all are work for money after all. if the difference in earning is not much then stick to online job only.

I think that it is best to accept the offline job. Here you will meet new people and have new friends, the money are good as you said and who knows? maybe you will find this more interesting. Also i think that is healthier for your body and mind to go out from home and work. If you don't like it then you can always go back to your online interests. Good luck with what ever you decide and let us know as well.

Your decision should be on your purpose-weather to make more money or to have fun.If is to make more money then HR would be better of online job.
