In what has to be the biggest sign of desperation and incompetence in the incompetent press, ABC news is trying to make a "Scandal" of the fact that Mitt Romney donates millions to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
I don't get it.. what's the scandal here? Mitt Romney is a Mormon, as members of the LDS Church, we are asked to pay tithing (10% of our income).
We also pay what we call our "Fast Offerings". The first Sunday of the month, we "fast" for 2 meals, then donate what we would have spent on those meals to our welfare program. If Romney is paying his tithing, I'm sure he's paying the fast offering too.
So what is the scandal? What's the big deal? To me, it would be more of a "scandal" to learn that a wealthy member of the LDS church ISN'T paying tithing and offerings.
I just have to wonder something else, do the people feigning outrage over Romney's tithing and offerings to the LDS church feel just as outraged over Harry Reid's? After all, Reid is a Wealthy Mormon too!

I donate too. Does that mean I am in a scandal. My catholic friends donate to their church, are they in a scandal too?
It is his money and he can do what ever he wants to with it!!!! Don't poeple get it.
But actually I think these write ups are to rile up the dumber, occupy Wall Street types and try to get people against Mitt.
Doe Gringrich, Obama and Perry donate to their church?

I would certainly hope that they donate to their church, so why isn't the press looking in to them as well. I like your response FatCat. Guess I am part of a scandal as well for donating to my church. Oh, and what about the United Way as well?

FatCat,
You say he can do what he wants with his money. I 100% agree with you on that. then you have to go and add the part..."doe Gringrich,Obama and Perry donate to their church?" They too can do`what they want with THEIR money. Last I knew politics and religion were seperate...no?

Sid, yes they can do what they want to do with their money, they claim to be religious and most require tithing and donations. Are they doing that? I am looking for the conservative and religious person I can trust. If they do not donate to their church, when Perry says he is very religious and Newt has changed and become very strong catholic. With my experience, I know how religious and strong they are if they paying tithing. Catholic church require 5% to the church and 5% to use as other donations to equal 10%.
I do not trust a person who says they are conservative and religious but do not follow the teachings and principles of their church. Many say it, but do it for outward experiences and approval of man.
Mitt did not say these things about his donations, the media dug this stuff up to try to make him look bad, when in actuality it makes him look good.

That is a ridiculous thing to be outraged over. It is not a scandal that someone is actually doing what they are supposed to do and what they claim to believe as a member of a religious group. I get so tired of politics.

Maybe it would be less controversial if he was donating to a racist church where the pastor screamed "God Dam America!"
I for one appreciate and respect the fact that he tithes to his church. As you said, I would be a bit more upset if I heard that he was NOT donating to his church, but even then, it wouldn't really be a scandal to me, just unfortunate. I'd much rather donate to my church than the government. I trust how my church spends their money and they run far more efficiently than the government while dollar for dollar helping far more people.

Hmmm...sounds like a case of sour grapes to me. It's no secret that Mitt Romney and pretty much every politician has money...more than most of us will ever have. I'm maybe missing something but I fail to see the connection between what he does with his personal money has anything to do with his political agenda. He isn't donating it toward some big Corp. or anything. He is donating it to his church who in turn, I assume, uses their money to help others not so well off?? I'm not a mormon but I have to think that as negative as the media tries to spin this, it is only going to help him in the polls. I'm still digesting this...not seeing the scandal factor here. I need to give this one more thought. Naw ...better things to do.

What are you talking about, Salt Lake City isn't even 50% Mormon anymore, and there are more Mormons outside of Utah than in Utah.

This is just another example of uneducated voters trying to make the fact that Romney is a Mormon into an issue about whether or not he is fit or justified to become the next President of the United States. This is something that has been an issue for him for quite some time. I don't understand how believing the Mormon faith means that you are not qualified to be President. There is much more at state, especially when you consider the state of our economy, right now than what church you attend. I mean honestly, if you want to find a reason NOT to elect him, look at his stance on the issues and what he says and does politically. This should be far more important than religion....especially now.

Just shows how ignorant they are. They hate things that make sense, like the LDS welfare program and the way they wisely spend their money. Next they'll be criticizing Romney for having a year's worth of food stored, calling him a hoarder that wants to deprive people in a famine or something.
I also heard him criticized for the $345,000 he made in speaker's fees last year. Yet we don't hear anything about the $80 million that the Clintons have earned in speaker's fees. And we probably never will.
I'm okay with him paying 15% in taxes. That's the most anyone should pay, in my opinion.
