Sleeping while inside a public bus.

Good day fellow mylotters, I have had a short distance travel this morning wherein I went to City Hall to coordinate some pertinent papers. While on my way there, traffic jams is so terrible. Although a lot of Traffic Officers are scattered on the street to assist on the flow, still, it gets tighter. But, this is not what I am after. What I want to share was, regarding those people who are sleeping inside the bus where I was sited. As they are really having their good sound sleep. That some of them feels the sound of their snores. And when I have looked at them, I feel like I was riding in an RV where some of my seatmates are still asleep.

It isn't a bad strategy for long travels and not exactly rude. Many people wear out on long bus trips and will leave them refreshed and alert at their destination. This is good in business and visiting relatives as well. I know it can bother and disturb people around them but also bear in mind that they may be having a rush for time and may be working hard. A friend of mine has suggested this strategy before as it makes the trip seem shorter. And it is too a device for coping with long travel than getting stressed and antsy. I know movies and cartoons satirize and even show it as negative but it helps to try to see things from the sleeping person's point of view. They may just be worn out from a long day or trying not to be too buggy.

When I used to use the bus, I saw this every morning too. I remember that I get out of home at 7AM, so, it was very early and a lot of people were already taking their 2-3rd buses, so, I can imagine how early they had to wake to be in their jobs. I rarely slept on the bus, only when I was very tired and most of the time it was when I was coming back home not in the morning. But, it always a light sleep, because imagine to lose your bus stop cause you were sleeping.

Thanks for sharing, i prefer to travel by train always in 2 tier air conditioned compartment; it is just like your home complete with toilets even, during journey i sleep on the 6 feet long 2.5 feet wide seat, but if there is no train service i move by bus , we have buses with sleeper arrangement but not as comfortable as train

Personally I have many sleeps inside public transit. Light sleeps but still a sleep. I do not find anything wrong with it although when those sleeping begin to snore and such I feel like tapping them on the shoulder to wake them to ask them to quiet the snoring down. I find myself embarrassed for them. When I sleep on public transit, I know I am not snoring as I never sleep that deep in concern to not miss my stop.

This is what I often do when I take a public bus and a train as well. When I wake up at the destination, I usually have a sore neck and feel very uncomfortable. There was one time that I was woken up by another passenger. lol

Sleeping on the bus seems like a no-other-option situation. Most get tired reading many pages of newspaper and the bus seems to be on the same place---not moving at all. I had an experience going on the bus where I was dozing on and off. My neck was painful due to my head drooping down. It was a boring 4-hour trip. The seats had so narrow space that i could not even change my leg position.

In the morning on the way to school i see plenty of people asleep but when it is to the city there is no problem because someone will end up wakeing you up to say that it is the end of the line. One time i fell asleep right next to my house and stayed around 4 towns away. Now our island isnt that small but it was around a 40 minute drive back home. i had to call my mom to get me :(

Honestly ! I like your point, Now I'm also thinking how it could be possible to sleep nicely in this bad situation like traffic jam? That's really worth sleeping? I feel they couldn't sleep if they driving a car or bike etc.. but i feel cause of bus, they know in bus no one there to disturb and when his/her destination comes, bus ticket collector wake them up. Don't know about others, but i can't sleep in this type of situations. Good observation !

Guilty with this but I don't snore. I travel long and work for shifting hours so I guess my body is used to it.

if you're the one awake while these guys sleep, the snoring could be a problem specially if your directly beside someone sleeping with their mouth wide open. not only do you suffer the intensity of their snores, you sometimes become their pillows for crying out loud! but if you're the one sleeping, you become a rather easy target for bad guys.

Maybe they are people who work at night when others are sleeping and sleep during the day when other people are working after all there are different work shifts. lol

Incredible but true, a lot of people sleep on the bus. For me, is very difficult sleep with some sound and I don't know how the people can sleep in a plase where there is a lot of noise. Only sometimes, when I chatch the bus at the 7 a.m, someone sleep (but at that time is normal and in the bus there is any noise).
