In USA my grand son - 1 year 1 month old -- had his first hair cut. I was told that the parlour people gave a certificate being the first hair cut and also took photo of my grand son.
I was happy to hear this. I was wondering about the gesture of parlour people in this regard. In India we do not have any such practice.
What is your experience in such occasions? Any special practices likes this in your country? please share.

In my country too I haven't heard about people giving a certificate on the first hair cut of a kid. Maybe some parlors do that to encourage others to visit their parlor and have their first hair cut memory there as well.

enelmy -- you are from Philipines. In India also we never do that way. However on the first birth day of the child when we do "ear piercing ceremony" we use to invite relatives and then celebrate that in a grand manner.

hatley aunty:
Now I am in India. I was informed about this by my son over phone yesterday evening. He is very cute. He smiles most of the time. I was told the child did not cry when he had hair cut. In fact my son also never cried on his first hair cut.
he is walking not very fast but few steps. After walking five/ten steps he will fall and get up and walk.
We were there in USA till first week of October. he has started walking since December 2011.

Never heard of this custom. May be some perlors do it and such ones might be trying to stand unique and draw more crowd. Another marketing?/?/ Children start crying for haircut only after 11/2 - 2 years and it was the same for both my sons.

I have also not heard of this custom earlier. May be it is a strategy for marketing also. Yes. children do cry more after 2 years or so because of difficulties to which they are put into.

what a wonderful idea, I think a lot of mothers would go there for this as just by seeing how mothers are on Facebook with their photos and such, I am sure that shop will get a lot of business for that small thought, very good idea.

lilaclady --you are in Australia. nice. My grand son is in Detroit. My son remembers the gestures shown by the parlour people.
Amidst a lot of routine this type of gestures by others make us feel happy.

Well, for us in the United States, a baby's first haircut is as much a milestone as them sitting alone for the first time or taking their first steps. Having the first haircut symbolizes the end of being a baby in many ways. I know that there are some salons that will give a certificate and such for the child that has just had their first haircut. Another thing that people typically do is to keep a lock of a child's baby hair. I have a lock of both my daughters and my sons baby hair.

doranmwin: How are you? How is your husband's health?
Yes. first hair cut is considered a mile stone and that is why they are giving more importance like issuing certificates. Parents are more happy when such a thing is done.
In India 'ear piercing" ceremony on the first birth day is done on a grand scale.

We don't have such practice-giving certificate for the first hair-cut but there is an event for a baby and it some kind of baby-shower party but we doing it traditionally and one of the activity is to cut the baby hair. But it is not a necessary to do so. It's up to the parents.(^^)

You had your kid's first hair cut ceremony?! Shouldn't it be balding your kid's hair completely?! Recently, we celebrated my nephew's ear boring ceremony and before ear boring, we give the hair of the kid to the god. (Kula Deivam). It is done richly with all the relatives coming from distant places to attend the function. It is a big deal of a function because it is the first ever function of the kid celebrated ever.
