I have recently discovered that we have an unwanted animal in the house, a mouse. We set traps for it last night but we haven't managed to catch him yet and it is starting to get to me. I hate the thought that this little bugger is hiding somewhere in the kitchen. We think it is behind the fridge and we have tried moving it and shaking it, but this little bugger just won't come out. My husband has seen it dart behind the fridge a few times, but we haven't managed to catch it. We are being very careful to not leave out food, except what is in the trap, and yet he still didn't go for it. I don't have to money to call anyone to come get it and I am not sure what else we can do. I have two small children, a cat and a dog so poision is out of the question. I don't know what to do, I just know I want the thing gone. Does anyone have any ideas? Please I need this thing out of my house, I can't even sleep anymore as I am so worried about where it is and what it is contaminating, can anyone help????

hello! rats are very scary with red eyes specially the little ones but even the big ones are scary too.. Before, we have many rats running around the ceilings or in the kitchen, so we decided to have a cat. Since cats love to catch rats we decided to have another cat and the good news is they are all gone. i don't know what happen, maybe the cats eats them or its just that the rats are afraid to cats. try to lock your cat in the kitchen for a night then see what will happen. :)

scary. i had that problem before and i guess we just hit the rat with something really hard. but one thing is rats are very fast, so we had a hard time running after it. rats bring disease at home so we must get rid of them. and yes it also brings us paranoia knowing that they are just around lurking and you'll never know when will they attack. you are right never think of using poison it's way too dangerous.

HI... I imagined, after reading the title, that you were talking about the famous Tom and Jerry Episode- A Mouse in the House... LOL.. It was one of the funniest... The mice might look great on TV but in real life, they are a trouble.. They generally go where they can find food... I wonder, why it has not gone for the food in the trap. It might indicate that it is getting ample food in the hiding, which is why he isn't risking to walk to the food in the trap.... Try calling for help with the local authorities.. I guess, the Govt guys do it for free... Good Luck!!!

put the cat to work. that is how we got rid of our mice. seriously, it only takes mice 6 weeks to have babies so best to nip this in the bud.

whats up with your cat? has it been taught not to bother smaller animals? get another cat that will catch such things. or borrow one from someone for a while that has a catching cat. i got rid of my mice once from an apartment years ago by my cat catching every last one

maybe you are the first one to put this question on mylot, but i'd like to help you. In my hometown, if one family has the mouse, if they have the cat, the cat can catch them. if the cat can't solve it,they will use another one, the poison, because the mouse is not good anmial, you can use the pison with the delicious, put them on the way of its home, this way is very useful for us, you can try it. Looking forward to your good news.

I understand your anxiety, but it's not worth obsessing about. First, if he gets into anything, you'll be able to tell because mice leave droppings everywhere they go. Secondly, although they're nasty creatures, mice and human beings have cohabited forever. Not every mouse is a carrier of some dread disease. If you see the mouse go behind the refrigerator, pull it out and check for a nest either behind or under it. Be aware that there might be baby mice in there. And I don't want to discourage you, but if you see one mouse, there are probably 10 more that you don't see. To get rid of mice, be sure to set the traps on or near their paths. Bait it with peanut butter and move it now and then. It's a matter of trial and error to find the best place for it, but you'll eventually find it and the mouse will be trapped. The kind of trap you use matters, too. The old fashioned kind with a simple snap trap, open and not fancy at all, works the best. You can throw away the entire thing if you can't bring yourself to unload it. Whatever you do, don't use a live trap then release the mouse somewhere else. Mice have incredible homing instincts and will return!

Last yr. for some reason we ended up getting a lot of mice in our house. It was like somehow some mouse that was pregnant built their nest somewhere in our garage or something. It even seemed like everytime we thought that we were rid of them a couple of months later we would hear or see one. It did take many traps with peanut butter but they are gone. We have a dog as well so poison was not something we could consider. Good Luck in catching yours.

Your cat should catch it. It may actually be living in the bottom of your stove. One of our cats displays very watchful behavior around the stove. The cats have caught one, but we know we have another.

Poor little mouse. Of course he won't come out of hiding. He's trapped and doesn't want to die. I have had a mouse in my house on, I think, two separate occasions. I can't recall what happened with the first, but the last one I finally caught with a cup after about a week. My cat was going after it and I yelled at her and told her not to go after it and I got it before she or any of our other animals harmed it. Then I let it outside. The best thing to do is go around and try to scare it out of hiding. Knock around stuff in the closet, etc. Then once you locate it, you can try to catch it yourself with the aid of a cup or something to that effect.

We had so many of them, we set traps, gave mouse poison, kept a cat, still there are some, they cut our clothes, soil the floor, i am not giving poison any more, it is difficult to trace if they die behind the freeze, wardrobe etc, the house smells for days together. Best of luck. Happy posting, cheers. Kalyani
