I'm getting 10 free meals from Humana

United States

Hi folks! I got a surprise today. I'm getting 10 free meals delivered to me by UPS on February 1st. They will be frozen. When you have Humana insurance and you have been in the hospital over night you qualify for 10 free meals. I didn't know I would get these, so I'm stoked. I got my Silver Sneakers card so I can go to the YMCA and use their facility for free... I'd go but I wouldn't have transportation...

Wow, that's nice! Makes me wish I'd had Humana back last year when I had surgery. The meals would have been very helpful. Good for you.

I am not from USA. What is humana insurance? do you have to pay premium regularly for that? Who are all eligible for it?(I know within USA)

It replaces my Medicare. It's much better than straight Medicare. They have Humana also for non-Medicare recipients also. It's cheaper than straight Medicare. I used to pay $110 for Medicare a month.. and I just pay $99 a month for Humana. It's taken out of my monthly Social Security.

My big problem would be leaving K. She has anxiety to be left alone and she wouldn't get free time at the Y to go with me. It's just a problem that I wish I could solve.

How are the meals? This is pretty good that your insurance offers something like this. I know each insurance these days always seems to offer little perks, and some are better than others. As for the other thing, well I am sure there are times you wish you could use it, and maybe somehow a way can be found for you to get there?

They are really quite good. I like the veal Parmesan. I also enjoyed the fish. Every time you have an overnight stay at the hospital you get 10 meals.

Well, good for you! Now, let's hope those meals are edible! When my Mom was still alive and living alone, she qualified for Meals on Wheels, but didn't like the quality of the food, so discontinued the service.

These will be frozen meals. I don't know yet how good they will be, but I expect they will be an entree and a dessert... I'll let you all know how they are when I get them.

Wow! That's very cool! I may need to check into this insurance it sounds like it is a decent plan. I'll have to see how expensive it is! I'm glad you are better too. What is the "Silver Sneakers" thing? That sounds interesting.

Wow! You all can't get medical insurance if you get beyond 60 years of age? I'm 61. We have medical insurance for life as long as we pay for it.

Wow that is really a great surprise. Isn't it possible to ask someone to take you over there? Perhaps there are people (strangers) willing to? Over here you have all kind of volunteers who are willing to do things like that. You can see if there is something like that in your area? I think it's worth trying.

That is a nice surprise to find out about. Getting a little benefit back from the insurance company - a nice little touch to show they care for their clients. As for transportation you should try calling your City Hall or Town Hall or whatever it may be called where you live. My Aunt did and was surprised that they provided free transportation in a small bus to seniors and the disabled. She had to call at least two or three days in advance to get on the schedule for pick up and drop off. She tipped the driver $1 for the ride which was well worth it and was able to make it to her doctor's appointments, grocery store or senior events in the day time without having to beg friends and relatives for rides or waiting to make those appointments when others had to find a hole in their schedules to fit her in. You should also check to see if you are eligible for Meals on Wheels. Why not take advantage of the benefits available if you meet the requirements. Hope the meals are tasty!

That would be okay except that I have K to think about. They have transportation for doctors appointments and things but not just to go where you want to. Our town is so small, I'm not even sure if they have it. When I lived in Jefferson they had it just for medical stuff and I used it for free.
