Dance moms-I wouldn't allow anyone to berate my child this way!

I recently started watching this show called Dance Mom. I was flipping stations and randomly left it on Lifetime to do homework and a marathon of this show came on. Now, I watch it because I can't help myself. Kind of like watching a train wreck. It is a show about a group of dancers between the ages of 6-13 who attend the same dance school and have the same dance teacher. Their teacher is a real witch who talks to the kids and their moms horribly. She's constantly telling them they are replaceable and that they aren't good enough even when they win first place. The sad part is that their moms allow it. Personally, I think it is a form of child neglect/abuse to allow this woman to berate their children the way they allow this woman to do. She breaks them down but doesn't build them back up. She does a lousy job at boosting their confidence. She pits the dancers against each other when they are supposed to be a team instead of just against their actual competitors. If I were one of the moms, I'd tell her she is right that everyone is replaceable then I'd find my child another teacher immediately.

geekemgirl ..I watch this show too and you are right..it's like watching a train wreck. I don't understand why the mothers let their daughters go through this nastiness. Good grief there MUST be a better dance school ..lol but not 'Candy Apples' The Moms need to grow up...

Definitely not Candy Apples lol. Most of the times the kids seem more mature than the adults. There must be another school that is better and more kid appropriate. The dance that Abby had Maddie do last week was too suggestive. I'd never allow my child to do a dance like that or wear some of those costumes or that much makeup.

I watch that show once in a while and I agree that the teacher is a real witch, lol! I love watching this show for the same reasons I like watching Bridezillas or Jersey Shore- for the drama. I saw one episode where the teacher on Dance Mom was talking bad about a mom because the mom wasn't there to watch her daughter dance and the husband was. The little girl could care less if her mother was there because she knew her mom had to work and her dad was there anyways but the dance teacher starting badmouthing the mom and being mean to the mom to her face. I just thought she got too personal that time. I couldn't believe the mom would let her daughter be around someone like that.

I watch it for the drama too. I remember that episode. If I were that mom, I would've told the teacher that if I didn't go to work then I wouldn't have money to pay her overpriced fees. I bet that would've shut her up. The little girl even said that her mom shouldn't have to be there because she has to work and she isn't the dancer...again the kids are more mature then the adults most of the time...sad.

I agree with you that I would NOT let my children go through that kind of abuse!! No one would be talking to my kids that way. I think possibly she acts that way for the ratings though. I do not think it is all real. Even still I would not care, ratings or not no one would speak to my kids like that!!! And Kathy from Candy Apples has a few screws loose too! Lol. And in real life I have never seen grown women act the way they do on the show! They act like a bunch of teenage girls!

I hope she is acting this way for ratings because if it is typical for her then both she and Kathy have a few screws loose and their priorities mixed up as does the parents. Unfortunately/sadly, I have seen grown women act this way just like a bunch teenagers. I stay far away from them.

It'd be hard for me to be friends with those parents and not say anything about them letting their kids go to that dance school which wouldn't be my place.
