Motherly Insticts For My Dog?!?

So one night my husband let the dog out like every night. I woke up at 4:50am for what seemed like no apparent reason. I didn't see the dog so I thought maybe my husband fell asleep before letting her back inside. So I opened the back door to call her and she didn't come running to me like she usually does. I went out there and she was gone! I went to the front yard and heard barking. I called her over and over. She finally came running to me from down the street! She somehow got out of the fence and I am so glad I had a feeling something was wrong. I guess I have motherly instincts for my dog too! Lol, she is like one of my kids. Have you ever felt like your pet was in trouble without really knowing? If you have what happened?

Dogs do become part of the family. I remember years ago, my mother had a Husky. He was very independent. And he used to jump the back fence and wind up in the neighbors yard. We had to wind up putting a six foot fence up. But he was one protective and playful dog.

They do. And another thing he used to do was prance. I was amazed when I saw him do that, I used to call him a reindeer. LOL. He was a fluff ball. I loved him very much. But it has been many years since he is gone now. But now my mother has a little lap dog. I think he is a mix of a poodle and a Havanese. He's a little quirky but cool.

Yeah my dog is one of my babies. She is just so sweet and so good with my kids. We all love her so much so I am really glad I woke up that night and found her. I have heard Huskies do that, jump and dig a lot. Lol.

We used to have a very protective Blue Heeler. For some reason this dog had it out for the mailman. We would leave him in the back yard and invariably he would get lose and bit the poor mail carrier. He would end up spending several days in doggy jail. There were several times I just knew he was out and sure enough when we got home he was in jail and we had a note on our door.

Aw, well they say if a dog doesn't like someone there is usually a good reason since they sense things we can't. I know that isn't really the point though. That must have been terrible keep having to go get him out again...

My dogs are my extended family. They are never out of my sight unless I am on vacations which I have to make sure that their welfare are taken care of by assigning someone in the family to look after them while I am away. I also have deep attachments on my dogs and would not let them out of the house unnecessarily cos I fear that they would be bullied by stray dogs when they are outside on their own.

Yeah, my dog is my extended family too. My crazy husband fell asleep while she was out there but we did have a fenced in yard, which I still do not know how she got out of! Thank goodness I woke up and found her because otherwise we would have all been heartbroken...

Of course I don't think I have any motherly instincts! But that's kind of a great story. That you woke up just because she was out there. Either that (mother instinct for your dog), or your dog just has superior mental powers!

LOL! It was great that I woke up like that and just sensed something was wrong with her. I am so glad because I could not imagine losing her. She is one of my kids, in a different way of course. That would be cool if she had some mental powers though!

I have cats, and I feel the same way. I love them and there isn't anything I wouldn't do for them. Yes, I have lost cats. Yes, I've known when they were hurt or sick. And, I've done everything in my power to ensure their health and wellness. Even gone broke because of them and have tried everything I could to make sure they were very happy healthy animals.

I understand. I feel the same way about my dog. I love her so much. She is the sweetest thing ever and I would be heart broken without her...

hi LovingMyBabies I had something similar happened way back when we had a dog and a house. I woke up in the middle of the night and our dog Swap was not on the floor by my bed. I got up and searched the house and no dog. I looked out side, woke my hubby and then we heard this whimper. When I called his name he had woofed and we had not heard him, The poor dog was shut in our big closet. I had not seen him lying down on a pillow behind some stuff on the floor and shut the door. So we all finally got back to sleep about three o clock. lol.It broke my heart when we had to find a home for him and our cat as we moved to an apartment
