My husband offered me to take part in a competition held in a near by place where they are giving 50$ for eating a cockroach. Its up to us to eat it alive or cooked. I was first taking it as a joke, until my parents even informed me about it. Please, I would rather get myself killed than have to eat a cockroach even if they offer me a million dollars for it. People are ready to take part in the competition, I mean seriously, how much desperate people have got to be to for money? Are you going to ever eat a cockroach for any amount of money? Even if I nothing to wear or feed myself, God Forbid - I still wont take that challenge. Cockroaches just are extremely, highly, CREEPY!!

why do you guys hate croaches this much? Have you forgotten that as an insect it must have a good store of protein? But people eat worms, locust, maggot/caterpillars, etc. Have you forgotten that croaches have been sharing your food and you never threw away the food and the bowl. Look, the big brown giant croaches look juicy. Imagine how good they would taste in a pie or lasagne. If minced or dried and blended, it would make an excellent ingredient for a dish.

I am compelled to believe that your introduction wasn't a reality; if it was, which of the dollars were you offered? To me the $50 was fair unless you had to eat so many of the beautiful insect. Did other people eat the stuff? Iam talking of eating the insects while you are talking of mere admiration. The fact that croaches are found in dirty places doesn't mean that they are dirty. By the way, pigs like dirty places, many fishes are found in dirty stagnant ponds, yet they are eaten without a wink. Croaches share foods with humans at anytime, they aren't that bad. Outside the protein, I believe they have some medicinal value. I will scour the net to find some stuff on croaches.

Why are you getting offended my friend? we are just having a discussion and everyone has the right to feel what they feel. Many people get freaked out with fishes, like my sister in law. she cant eat fishes, she finds them creepy. Where as my other sister in law cant have fruits because she finds them weird and not tasty at all. so I find cockroaches creepy. Well its up to you to believe or not to believe in my introduction. I dont write fake discussions, if something happened I like to share with my lotters. Thank you for your time.

Hello Wysecom, it seems you have a good interest in cockroaches. Is there something that you would like to share, are they something that you admire? Well yes there are people who admire different types of insects, so i am sure that you might be knowing more about cockroaches than we do, as we are afraid of them. I dont want to even imagine them in my food! So do you eat them? Cheers Thanks for the response.

I really can't believe that this is the real competition. In fact we had the similar joke before. But we said whether you would eat a mouse for USD10,000,000. Yes, this will be a tough choice:) However, I will not eat a cockroach for USD50 for sure. This offer is just too low for me to consider it:) I love China

You are kind I think the big amount will make me think about eating cockroach, how about $10,000,000? Perhaps I will not mind it. After all, it is a cockroach rather than a mouse

Shibham, you started well and ended so badly. Your initial reason was partly acceptable by me, probably, considering you may be of some SPCA or veggie association but the other reasons... money...disgusting.. threw everything out against you. It was just a competition with a monetary reward. There is nothing disgusting with eating anything edible. Bamboee, I can see that you are afraid of everything around you. Assuming you are terribly sick and the only remedy is a serum found in croaches, the doctors both traditional and western recommends a meal with some croaches, what would you do? Would you prefer an early grave, leaving your children motherless just because of your personal dislike for croaches?

Are those wild cockroaches or clean? If they're clean, what's wrong with eating them? They're just bugs and as far as I know, they don't produce any toxins of their own. So as long as they're not picked up from the trash (which they probably would be, since that would cause the event organisers to get sued), they're probably quite safe to eat.

Please help me tell them the truth. What makes them think that imported foods does not contain some of the things they term 'creepy'. Some of the canned stuffs are traditionally made and the contents are written in foreign names and languages. Is someone feeling nauseous or begining to vomit?

Never!!! I will never eat anything unusual, beyond the norm food. I can't eat alive worms or anything like Fear Factor is forcing their contestant to eat.

Sorry but that's not my meaning of FUN, cockroach is an insect, it's dirty and full of bacteria, it's not for human consumption, I've learned that if we happen to be stuck in an Island we can eat big ants whom eating fruits and some worms if we run out of food. I wouldn't dare eating something that may hurt or damage my body. My kind of fun is safe for me and for the others, there are lots of things to be done, temptations are everywhere, I am leaving my life with limitation.

I don't think I could do it for $50. But cook it and I could eat it for a million dollars. They are really creepy. People have differing views on what they will do for money. I personally don't think $50 is enough. But that's just me. There are people who obviously do.

I'm usually creeped out by bugs. If someone was to pay me a million dollars and all I had to do was chew it I would be able to do it. I couldn't do it like on some of those tv shows where you have to hold it in your mouth for a little bit and let it crawl around. That is so gross.

YIKES! I don't think I can ever take that! Cooked or uncooked. I would really say that people who dare do that are extremely DAREDEVILS! Definitely and 'OH MY GOD!' moment for me. Seriously, God forbid, I can't imagine me doing it.

In my personal thinking of this, there are some places used to eat cockroaches not for money, but for those who wanted to taste it. I heard, some cockroaches are catered and cultured in a clean environment.
