All of us living in the US have to deal with the IRS, spending money and precious time gathering all our information together from last year! For me it means I have three new deadlines to meet! One is on the 31st of January every year. It takes me at least one entire day to get all of our information together. The second one is bringing all that information to my tax accountant. The third is going back to the preparer for the verdict that will either produce money coming back to us or us having to pay in by April 15th. Almost everyone I know hates tax season. They might fear the IRS will pull an audit, or they hate the time they have to invest to taxes when they could do anything more relaxing or making more money. Today, January 31th is a deadline I met once again. But the stress of it all makes me want to go to the tropics, for a full 7 days! My husband has a home office for his job and I run my own business in my office. This means we have a lot of receipts. We also have to use our utility bills, etc. to justify we don't just live here, we also work here. So wouldn't have the most reason to hate tax season? But beginning today I can focus on home and hearth. TG I'm so annal! Do you hate tax season? Or is it just really simple for you!

I have hubby take care of taxes, but I do not stress. I am currently around a lot of people who seem to be getting a lot back, so they are happy.

I sweat it because I'm the one who has to figure stuff out just to go get them done! Yuck! I had hubby take only one exemption and I didn't work last year. Thank goodness we are getting a good refund! It worked!

I am surprised that you find tax that cumbersome. As far as I know our tax system in the Philippines was patterned after the United States, yet, we have a convenient practice in the Philippines. This is even more made easy because of electronic commerce. For persons like you who have personal businesses, the Philippine Bureau of Internal Revenue requires quarterly filing of income tax returns prescribing for a cumulative declaration, and an annual income tax return filing summing up all transactions of the business. Since the declarations are made on a quarter-to-date basis, the annual income tax return will just reflect the fourth quarter. Nonetheless, your difficulty emanates from the fact that you have to do the computing, filing and self-assessment yourself. In the Philippines, accountants can do this task for a minimal fee.

Here accountants don't come cheep. If I could afford one, I'd get one. Still the ultimate responsibility of filing taxes is ours. The accountant would have to show and prove to me how the figures were compiled. Then my tax accountant would have to show and prove to me how they came to the bottom line. If the IRS would have to see how those figures came about I would have to know what the tax people were doing. I sign off on all the documents submitted and sign that the prepares evidence is true and factual to the best of my knowledge. It is a huge error to just hand all the responsibility over to someone who may not be honest and trustworthy. Money makes people do funny things! We could easily be stolen from if everything is not watched! "Computing" is not a challenge for me. It's just time consuming when it comes to taxes. Anything that takes away from my ability to actually work is not generating income!

Personally Tax season can be a Big pain, and the main issues are knowing what things you can deduct and where to put them. With my online/offline business there is personal taxes I am having to pay for the Business that is thru the state, and then there are the other things I have to pay or deduct thru Federal. It really can be a lot of extra work, and hopefully will bring back money as well.

I did my taxes yesterday on line. I will be getting refunds from the state and federal. I have been getting refunds for along time. I am single,I rent and have no kids so my taxes are easy to do. I don't mind doing my taxes and tax season. If it wasn't so simple I would really hate!

Mine were so simple when I was single I did my future husband's too. Things are different now. I will gladly pay the price to not have that worry!

Well , I guess i'm too late for responding this discussion because the tax season is probabely over but , there is a website called 360taxes.org and it has some information that you can find usefull : it gives you the instructions about how to feel the taxes , what are the papers that you need , it also has many topics about how to plan your future to deal with the tax : you go to the section "year round planning" and go to the "tax planning topics". They give you some tips like self employement taxes calculator , articles about this thing like "tax planning for self employed" (2 people found this usefull) They recommend you to see IRS publication 533 to learn how the tax works for self employed. It is very important to know everything about it. They also recommend you to read IRS publication 505 to know how the penalty works if you don't deal with your tax on time. They also recommend you to employ family members to save taxes... The article is long and maybe , even if you are a veteran in this bussiness , you can still learn something. I can only say a general thing since i'm not from the U.S.A , you better know as much as you can so you can plan better how to deal with the taxes. They give you the information. Have a nice mylotting (I hope you don't need to pay tax for the payout , lol )

It's not too late for the US! Our tax season begins Jan 1st and over April 15th. A lot of people can do their taxes before Feb 1st. But we have to wait until Feb 15th to get some of our information because of the way we make income. I'm done now. We get over $2000 back. Yea!

Do you think there was anything you could do to lower the taxes and increase the income ? Did anything from my last comment you find usefull or new to you ? I'm sure you pretty much know it all :) I wish I had a bussiness like you have so I can earn well and deal myself with the taxes , work at home with my family members...is there anything more family than that ? We all work together , giving a service to clients ...and my children (I don't have such but I hope someday I will ) will work with me :)

here's my thought on this i think the irs should go out of business because it causes corruption and it is government related.

I've seen corruption in many different forms. I have seen people "accidentally" loose their reasons for deductions and write offs. When someone cheats on their taxes to pay less out we get to make up the difference unless they're caught.

I'm sorry to hear you won't get that deduction! Forgetful things happen to all of us! Because I'm prone to forget to even tie my shoes, I've had some well learned lessons in many different directions. Even my meticulous husband has done this from time to time, making me laugh, almost vindicated.

my husband forgot to keep his receipts for teaching expenses. While I know that he spent that money, I cannot find the proof so I did not take the deduction. I was even scrupulus enough to pay the "online purchases" tax that is through my state as a way to gain revenues.

I really don't like it. It took over four hours this afternoon getting all the figures and records organized. I have to call the accountant tomorrow and set up an appointment. He's usually pretty fast so I should know where I stand by the first part of next week. Every year I think this: All year long I try to make as much money as I can without spending all my time doing it and along comes tax season and I'm wishing I hadn't made as much!

You and everyone else! Tax season for me is over as soon as possible! I figure all my documents have to be received by Jan 31 and hope I'm right! Then I spend one full day gathering our deductions. Yuck!

Gah. Fortunately I'm in Canada and I'm a small business, so I don't have to file for another 5 months, but I think I'm just going to gather everything together and get it over with as soon as my husband's paperwork is done. I have no idea why I find this stressful, but I do.

There's only two reasons I would get stressed; fear I will have to pay in and not getting the numbers right!

It's pretty simple for me.....not a big deal. I have worked the same job for 27 years...and my home business doesn't make enough money to be considered anything but a hobby. I haven't done mine yet......Sunday probably.

Yeah! I did our taxes for years, at the kitchen table no less with all the boys coming in and out and hubby cooking dinner! Now that we can through ourselves into our jobs etc and prepare for retirement I have to pay someone to do it for me. (dang)

In my country, you're eligible to pay tax if your income are RM3K and above. Those who work in big private company or govt. didn't think much of their tax payment as they were done by the company that they work at. For me, who is working in the rural area and open my own shop, paying tax is not compulsory as my income doesn't even reach RM3K per month yet. But I still want to start filling for tax payment so I will have my annual income statement.

It is more complicated now than it used to be for me, but it is still something that I look forward to because we get a tax refund every year that we will use for important things that we need for our home. I've been doing my own taxes, first by hand and now with Turbo Tax since I was fifteen years old. I've also done my mother's and my siblings as well, so I do have an idea of how time consuming and confusing to get done.

I used to do that but as time went on I became so busy I couldn't do it anymore. I still double check everything the tax accountant did. We always get a lot of money back because I make my husband take only 1 exemption on his W4. I pay in a little more every quarter so we can get that big return.

tax season is not my favorite time of year. taxes were a bit more complicated this year, but not overly so. Taxes were efiled on Saturday, and hope to get the return before this friday. I do all of the taxes, so I spend a lot of time grumbling at people to get out of the office area or fear the wrath of tax stressed wife/mommy.

I refuse to get stressed over taxes! Growing up there was nothing but screaming and yelling during tax season! Not here! Ever.
