I played a geography game. I was looking on You Tube a few days ago and found a site that has a game where the person gets to type the names of as many countries in the world as possible during fifteen minutes. I also had fun with another game typing the names of all the countries in South America. I managed to do that before the five minutes was up. Do you like geography games that test your knowledge? Which continent do you know most countries names?

I love geography games. There are a lot of different geography games on the internet, and I think it is great way to learn the names of the countries and the names of the capitals. I like to the games where you get a picture of the map and have to place to the countries on the map. I also like the games where you have to pick the right capitals from a list. I know my own continent (Europe) the best and I also know Asia quite well, because that is the continent that I really want to visit. I love reading about the different countries in Asia. I know many of the countries in Africa, too, but I find it different to remember the small islands around Africa and their capitals.

I am planning four trips to Asia, the planeticket from my country to Asia is quite expensive so when I am there I want to visit more than one country. I will visit Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam on the same trip. Later I will visit Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and the Philippines. My third trip will be China, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan and the fourth trip will be India and Nepal. Of course it will take me a long time to save up the money for all those trips, so it is not going going to happen in the near future, but one day when I have enough money. One of my friends visited China some years ago, she liked your country a lot, and she wants to visit China again. I also look forward to visiting your country one day

wow, this is a real nice plan . From these detailed trips, You must be spend lots of time to study and reserch . Different country have their own culture and beauty. i am virtually a camper or tralver, but mostly travelling in China . In the near future i will vist Huangshan mountain, which is in China of Anhui province.Next station will be Japan, I've studyed japanse for two years. So , i think i could understand what you said. China is really a amazing country,if you could get there, you would love there. besides, i share some interesting things with you . Chinese admired "single white woman to travel",then make up a china style name called "single heroine". Because of limited english reason, i hope i could express myslef clearly.

Another good question is which continent has the most countries. For me, Asia could be tougher to do because I don't know if I know all of the former soviet republics. Africa might be a little tough since some of the countries have changed their names since I went to school, which was a long time ago. I could probably do Europe. With the breakup of Yugoslavia, does Europe have the most countries now?

Yes, that is a great question that you have thought of. Yes, the ex Russian states can be challenging to remember the names and spellings of. Ex Yugoslavia has me feeling that way too. Now we have South Sudan in addition to Sudan.

On the game I type Burma instead of Myanmar and it accepts it. I put in Timor Leste and think it used to be part of Indonesia. Yes, Zaire is an old name from Africa and then its name changed to Zambia I think. Thanks for mentioning these sorts of changes.

Yugoslavia isn't so bad because some of those countries split off bit by bit and most were independent prior to WW I. Africa brings up another problem in that many of the countries there were colonies that we named by the mother country. Then after they became independent, many dropped the Euro names for names of their own, like Malawi, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Namibia. and then there was French Somaliland which becase Afars and Issas before changing to Djibuti. Sometimes you have dictators who decide to change the countries name like Burma to Myanmar. Hey and don't forget all those islands in the Pacific that became independent.

These games are fun, and if you have mnemonic countries it becomes easier things like Austria, Australia, etc The ideal is like you said going by continent, North America is very easy there are 3 countries, Australia, both continent and country, then other continents become more difficult. The thing is countries I can normally name a couple of dozens, the problem is the capitals of each one, or worse yet where they are. It took me ages to remember that Guiana is not next to Guinea or Guinea Bissau. Another problem is city states or island countries like Vanuatu, Andorra or when self governing autonomous regions like the Canary Islands which I used to forget were not independent but part of Spain, when I was younger. The same for Denmark and Greenland, only after loosing a couple of those Geography games when I was younger did I never forget that. Haven't played these types of games in a while, wonder if I am better then when I was younger. Thanks for the tip, I will probably go look for the game. Have a great day.

I like the link Guinea, Guinea Bissau and Papua New Guinea. I put all the hard to remember places like Burma, Brunei and Timor Leste. I feel that Iran and Iraq are similar names. Yes, somewhere like the Cook Islands is not a country and New Zealand owns it. Greenland looks like a country yet it is really part of Denmark. Thanks for your wonderful response.

I do like games or quiz or anything about geography. I can list many countries around the world but I think I know more countries in Asia than any other continents since I am from Asia and I think Asia is the continent that has the most countries, but then I check about it in the net and I was wrong it's Africa with 53 independent countries, second is Europe with 51 and Asia is only third with 46 countries.

I am delighted that you can list the Asian countries. Well done for finding out how many countries are in Africa and Asia. European countries like Monaco are very small. Japan is incredibly close to South Korea.

The continents that I know are the Americas, Oceania and Europe which is the one that I live in. I find some of the Asian spellings hard to do quickly but can manage Kazakstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. I find Africa challenging especially West Africa. Thanks for your great response.
