Do you think babies and pets can understand each other?

I have three pets: two cats and one dog. Neither of them has experienced a small infant or baby in the house before. But I saw a picture of a baby with a cat and the captions are of they are telling one another some facts of life. My question is...do you think that animals and small children like that have ways of understanding each other? ~Stjarntydarna

I'm not sure that they really understand each other, but I do think that animals realize they have to be careful around them and take care of them in a way. My horse is like this, when I ride him, he'll get scared of the littlest things. But if a little kid is riding him or if I'm riding him with a baby, he's extra good and takes care of the little kids in a way. He stands patiently while little kids brush him and he even puts his head down so they can reach his face. It's really neat how some animals will completely change around a little kid and act calmer.

Thanks for your comment. It was so descriptive I could see it in my mind as I was reading it. ~Stjarntydarna

You're welcome. But, does the parrot seem to "understand" the grandchildren? Does the bird move differently or act differently? ~Stjarntydarna
