"The Aldi customer who shot an armed robber in the store Monday says prosecutors told him after an interview late Thursday he won't face criminal charges." He was in an Aldi grocery store when it was being robbed by a man with a shotgun. Being a Concealed Carry permit holder, he was ready. He nodded to a man standing in the line of fire. After the man moved, he pulled his handgun and fired. The thief was later apprehended as he sought treatment at a local ER... for gun shot wounds. Because Aldi has a policy against allowing people to carry concealed weapons in their stores, there was a question whether he would be charged or not. Apparently the county prosecutors decided there was no case against him. I'd like to point out that this incident was investigated before the decision was made to not charge him. Even though we all have the right to defend ourselves, no one should expect to be simply "let off" when they use a weapon against someone else. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/news/138626059.html

Mylot does not recognize my posts as being standard, but I will try one more time. I think it is cool that this guy did not hurt anyone but the would be thief and that the thief will stand trial. I believe that the idea of concealed carry should make a potential criminal think twice, because he might get shot. It will be interesting to see if that happens.

I didn't have to read the jsonline story. I caught the story on the local news! This gentlemen did the right thing and I am very happy he was not charged for shooting the robber! The man was there at the right time and knew what to do! I am for people to carry concealed weapons as long as they get the proper training and don't use them in the worng way!

Me too, Blue. Where I live, they do a background check and you have to take a safety course to get a pistol permit. They are pretty fair.

Personally this is a hard call whether or not the man should be charged. I think it was a great justice what he did, and may have helped save a life, and protect others from being robbed. But since his life was not in immediate danger, this would be an interesting call.

I am glad to hear he stopped the armed robbery and is not going to be charged. Maybe this will get the store to change their policy. But, I would like to point out that he is not "off the hook" yet. Even though no criminal charges are being filed; he could still face a civil suit if the thief sues him (and, that has been taking place more frequently).

I am glad to hear this! He obviously was level headed enough to aim and not kill the guy but succeeded in deterring him. I bet the cashier was grateful! I work nights alone in a convenience store. That guy would of been my new best friend. I know some of my regular customers have concealed weapons. They sit in the store at night drinking coffee and chatting but they are also watching. Anything out of the ordinary, you can see them watching and ready to take action if needed. It's good to know. I also agree that they shouldn't just simply be let off. Hope Aldi's rethinks their policy. As someone mentioned..just the mere threat might be enough to deter some of these would-be criminals.
