He's gone now, his brother is alone.

I posted a discussion extremely early this morning about the guinea pigs(no responses), so I'm not going to go into the details, you can read them in that discussion. But anyways, the guinea pig was still alive this morning, but still didn't move since before I went to bed. I tried feeding him this morning, and he didn't want to eat, but I forced the issue. However, as the day went on, he got worse and worse. About an hour ago, he finally gave up and died. His brother is now alone, and he's never been alone before. I'm sure he'll be fine though. It was just a matter of time before this happened though. Now he's not suffering anymore, and that's the important thing.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I know you've been working with these piggies for some time, and I have been working backward so I haven't gotten to your previous discussion - I'll stop and go look for it. Its hard to lose a pet, I hope like you do that his brother won't miss him too much - they may be social animals, but they do reasonably well alone from what I've seen.

So sorry to read this. I do hope you can find a new one for the other to play with. Hopefully it won't get depressed being alone.

I've read that guinea pigs can get depressed if they're alone with no one to play with, and sometimes the depression would cause them not to eat and drink. I think he'd be okay though even if he's alone just as long as you keep him entertained by playing with him often or putting some stuff for him to play with.

It is very hard to lose a pet, but sometime it is better that a pet die. Because a longer life with much suffer isn't what anybody want also animals do not want that i think. I do not know if guinea pigs are animals that really needs a other animal, but if it is so it must be really hard for him to be alone. The you can do at the moment i think is just give him more attention. Maybe you can get a new friend for me, but if he is old most of the time animals do not accept a new one.

Awww I'm so sorry to hear this. It really breaks your heart when you lose a pet. To me it's just like losing a member of your family. Although like you said it's good that he is no longer suffering, still your heart does get attached to them so you still feel the pain of losing them. From one animal lover to another, I truly understand how you feel.

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your pet. :(. Even though he is no longer in pain and is at Rainbow Bridge where he will no longer feel anything but happiness and joy, his brother will be sad. Just as my dog is right now, over the loss of his partner 6 weeks ago. They grieve no different than you and I. At times it is hard to watch, let alone feel your own emotions over the loss. I do hope your pet will be ok, I would keep an eye on him just to make sure he is ok, as you said, he's never been alone before, much like my dog and for that I am glad we have our cats, but even then, he only tolerates them so much.
