Actually the roomie tried to do it to me!
We went off to try and find a stand for the new convection oven and then she wanted to by Goodwill.
We had a very successful visit to Goodwill, maybe a bit too successful, and came on home, stopping by the Chinese market to pick up some spring rolls for her and the new roomie for dinner.
We got out of the car and went around to the back to get what we put back there out.
The roomie grabbed most of the bags, but I picked up a little rolling suitcase we had gotten and was leaning over to put it down when she brained me with the hatch of the car!
I mean, she really gave me a solid slam to the top left of my noggin!
Needless to say, I gave a great yelp and staggered from the blow!
THAT HURT!
Happily, now after several hours it doesn't hurt unless I touch it, but there is a bump up there.
I hope I don't hurt in the morning

OUCH! How's your head now..got a big bump on it I bet.
As for me, I once trapped the top of my thumb in the car door when I slammed it shut. Fortunately, I had thick gloves on but it didn't half hurt. The door bounced off my thumb so it's not as though it was trapped in there.
I remember feeling a bit faint for a couple of minutes, then the MIL told me to stick the thumb underneath the cold tap. My nail went black after that but, fortunately, no lasting damage.
Oh, and there was the book falling off the shelf incident, onto my "noggin" as you put it.
My, we don't have put ourselves through grief every year don't we?

Its just a little bump, and the roomie says its my job now to close the hatch...
I got my thumb caught in a locker door in high school and the health teacher/gym teacher/first aid person told me to run it under cold water for 10 minutes.
It was sore for several days, but didn't turn black or anything...
Had an awkward moment attached to that event... hummmm maybe I should start posting my misadventures in my misspent youth...

It was just the nail itself that turned black but that disappeared as soon as it started growing again. I didn't half see stars at the time, I can tell you! Glad your head doesn't look too bad.
Yes, I think you should start some discussions about your misspent youth as well..then it will give us a good excuse to go on about ours!

I underwent similar attacks initiated by a vehicle I drove for work. A giant suburban with a lift hatch. I was constantly taking people shopping and opening the back. It also pulled my shoulder out of place.

Hi GG. I may have done something similar to my shoulder about 3 or 4 months ago. I can use my arm but can't bring it around my back to hook my bras or raise it over my head since my little mishap with the hatch of my SUV. I'll be seeing an orthopedic surgeon as soon as I get that (what seems to be a jinxed) vehicle in to see what transmission problems I'm facing. Did you see a doctor about your shoulder and what did they do for you?

At the time I had the sore shoulder I had insurance, but no time to take off (so I thought). It probably was not out of place, but just severely pulled. I did a lot of Aleve and Advil as scheduled, and heat. On a more recent note, while I was unemployed, I strained the other shoulder, reaching behind hubby's car seat and lifting something awkwardly. I had no insurance, no job at the time. I struggled with it for a while, then started weight training and that helped up to a point. I think I was lifting too much too soon, though, because it started hurting really bad again. My chiropractor is less expensive than my doctor so I went to him. He wanted me to get an MRI, but I told him I could not afford it. He did some myofascial release and trigger point work, then offered to teach my husband how to do it (hubby has some rehab training) I took hubby in and had another appointment, hubby learned how to do the treatment and within two weeks the pain in my shoulder was gone. He does the work on my back and shoulders whenever they are giving me trouble. It is great. It consists of some patterned scraping to break down adhesions and then putting pressure on any knotted trigger points. It is just luck that it was not my rotator cuff but was and impingement of the nerves. I also do theraband work, but not faithfully and water exercise and light weight training.

oh, the roomie doesn't need anyone to take care of her, tho the new one, who is totally blind needs a bit more help than the roomie - just to get settled in any way...
in fact, the roomie has a good job - we'd be hurting if I wasn't working otherwise!

Of course! With my record of gracefulness it's a given that I have had my car attack me.
The first episode was when I was 12. My brother slammed my finger in the car door. I still have the scars and deformed finger and finger nail from that. It split my finger wide open and I lost the nail. It also was bruised from the end of the finger up my arm for several weeks. It is now split down the middle so that there is a strange nail growth. The nail doesn't grow in like normal nails and it doesn't have the flat bed like the other nails. I can't even use fake nails on it. So much for having a beautiful manicure on that hand.
Then I slammed my head in the car door when I was 20. It was a 1965 Thunderbird, and was a heavy car... OUCH! I had a bad lump, a bruised ear,and a headache for days.
The greatest one was when I knocked myself cold while I was doing a lube job on my Mom's van. I've told that story before.
Recently my Ford Escort's trunk lid (it's a station wagon) came down and brained me. I was glad to sell that vehicle! The trunk lid didn't stay open too well.
I also have had my leg attacked by the door, that happened too many times to count. Of course there were bruises and blue air. Now the Outback's favorite stunt is to get my left foot stuck in between the door and the door jam. That usually happens while I'm in town and there is traffic coming and going. Or it will do it in the car port where I can't get the door open wider. I think the thing waits until I go inside and then will laugh at me.

Another favorite thing my cars love to do is to snap the clutch against my left ankle. That's great fun!
I still get the giggles over my having slammed my head in the car door! I was in a hurry and was half in the car when I grabbed the door handle and whacked myself a good one.. I saw stars! I was so mad at myself but couldn't help but to laugh at myself and my stupidity.

Yes I have and I will never forget it! My sister came to visit with her kids and rather then have her walk back home I told her to borrow our car. When she pulled out the driveway I noticed she had dropped my nephews bottle so I yelled for her to stop. I was opening the passenger side door at the same time she did and somehow the car door hit my eyebrow. I gave her bottle and as I was walking away I realized the door had cut me and blood was dripping down my face. I still have the scar lol

Yes it was quite a bleeder. I had a good laugh at how silly it happened. After I stopped the bleeding of course.

Actually, several of my cars have attacked me. It usually happens as I'm getting in the car to go to work. The roof of the vehicle lowers as I get in so that as I throw myself sideways, I'm knocked very hard on the scone. I'm surprised I haven't been knocked out as it is obvious to me that was the car's intention. Luckily, I have thick hair and a hard skull.

OMG YES! The hatch of my SUV came down hard on my left shoulder, just like it did to your noggin! Well, except that I was the one pulling it down. I normally get out of the way in plenty of time but, this time, nope. This happened about 3 or 4 months ago. I SAW STARS!!! Yep, I definitely know what you felt and feel for you.
I just hope you don't have permanent damage to your head. My shoulder swelled up and turned blue and purple immediately. Now, months later, it hurts about the same as it did the day after I hit it! I have to see an orthopedic surgeon now to see what damage I actually did with my stupid car.
I truly hope that your poor head heals well and feels better very soon. I know what that kind of pain feels like and it's no fun. Did you put ice on it when it happened?

no, tho I did consider it... its feeling better now.
I broke the strap on my beaded purse because I didn't back off quite far enough a few months ago. Fixed it recently...
I like to normally let the roomie close it because its easier for her to reach it, but that may change!

I'm glad to hear it's feeling better and hope it's just a memory soon.
I have to get up on my toes (what my son used to call "tippy toes") to grab the handle. Those things apparently aren't built for short people. Hmmph! Maybe you and the roomie should work out a system where this could never happen again like you giving the "All clear" before she closes the hatch.
I'm a lot more cautious these days. After all, I only have one shoulder left.
I thought I was more cautious after I smashed my finger in the door a few years back (which resulted in permanent tendon damage the doc called "mallet finger") but I've only been more cautious with my fingers; I never thought the car would attack my shoulder.

I've been pinched by the gear shift, and both knocked in the head and have had fingers smashed by t he car door. If I didn't love it so much, I'd hate it.

I haven't had that one happen, but I've managed to hit my head while getting in and out of cars and shut the door on myself.
This reminds me, though, of an incident one day where I accidentally smacked my boyfriend in the head with a cabinet door. He was a little closer to it than I realized, and I kind of spaced and... Well, did you know that opening cabinet doors too close to your boyfriend's head can be a bad (and very painful for him) thing?
Thankfully, I didn't do any real damage; I'm certain that it hurt quite a bit, though, since it was the very corner of the door that managed to smack him. Like I said, he was a tad closer than I'd realized, and I sort of spaced.
I think it's made him a tad paranoid about me operating cabinet doors, though.

Yes! In November just before a presentation at school...I was rushing to get my things out and somehow my pinky finger got in the way. I broke the tip of it in the car door!!! OUCH! At the time I didn't realize it was broken and rushed on. I ended up going to the doctor the next day.

I haven't actually gone through with it, but when I had a hatchback, I came so close a few times cause the hatchback is so much longer in length then you're thinking when you are pulling it down. I have come so close to hitting my daughter and my friend with it. Thank goodness I didn't actually do it. I hate it you got hurt like that. Got to be very painful. Hope you are feeling so much better now. By the way,, if you haven't taken anything, take something for the pain. That will help.
I am on the tall side for a woman, 5'8 1/2', and I have hit my head on the corner of kitchen cabinets in the past. Ouch! That really hurts!

The roomie is 5'10ish and she has to watch those cabinets too, even MY head (5' and a fraction) is high enough to hit the doors over the sink!
It only hurts when I do this... so I'm not doing "this" and that is touching the spot...
I've gotten a few fingers in my time, not mine, others! I'm pretty fast when its time to get my fingers out of the way!

Hi ElicBxn, I have never been attacked by my car but the trunk
has certainly given me plenty of headaches by me banging it..
Then I have also shut the door on my finger,,I't hit my head
while entering the car by not bending enough...I have had my
share of run in with my car...
I do have to say that most of those incidents probably would not
have occurred had I really paid attention to what I was doing and
not running my mouth or in a hurry...
Anyway I survived....LOL....

That hasn't happened to me but I did it to my poor son when he was about 14. We were taking groceries out of the back of our Jeep and I thought he was clear when I started to shut the hatch but I bonked him on the head! I felt so horrible!!
That's one reason I won't have a hatchback vehicle. I learned my lesson and it never happened again but I won't have a vehicle like that. Besides, I like to store my stuff in a trunk that people can't see into.

Ouch! I know how you feel! I hit my head on the door frame of my newest car the day I got it! I had something in the backseat. After I got home I went to get the stuff out of the backseat. I raised my head to soon and wham! It hurt like heck for awhile and that spot on my head was tender like a week!

I bet she feels as bad about it as your head feels! I hope you didn't get a concussion or anything and that the lump goes down tomorrow.
