Since having the twins.....

Since having the twins the household chores have gone out the window. My laundry pile has increased two fold and I never get enough sleep. I use to have a weekly technique to clean the house and get things done easily. It was easy because I stuck to it and cleaned what was on my list daily. This led to the house looking decent almost all of the time. I am going to have to get back into this. Right now I feel as if I am on a sinking ship going down fast with no life preserver as far as the house is concerned. I know that everyone says, don't worry about it, the mess will still be here tomorrow, etc but I don't feel that way. I don't care for a dirty house. I want to get mine re-organized and back up to par. Monday- 1.) Change linen on all beds. 2.) Wash all linen & towels. 3.) Dust bedrooms. 4.) Vacuum bedrooms Tuesday- 1.) Clean guest bathroom. 2.) Vacuum hallway & living room. 3.) Wash all kids clothing. (Twins & Toddler) 4.) Dry, Fold, Hang, put away clothes. Wednesday- 1.) Clean master bathroom. 2.) Dust living room. 3.) Wash hubby's clothes.(2 loads) 4.) Dry, Fold, Hang, put away clothes. Thursday- 1.) Vacuum hallway & living room. 2.) Wash my clothes.(1 or 2 loads) 3.) Dry, Fold, Hang, put away clothes. Friday- 1.) Vacuum bedrooms. 2.) Wash dish towels. 3.) Dry, Fold, Put away dish towels. Daily Chores- 1.) Dishes 2.) Sweep & Mop the kitchen floor. (I have a toddler that makes all sorts of messes) 3.) Sweep the porch & patio. Now lets see if I can get this done. I will try to keep it all posted. Do you have a specific way you clean your house?

I have twins, now aged 12, they were born just before my son's 2nd birthday, he is now 14. Hard work but very rewarding, luckily our children were very good sleepers. I clean peoples houses for a living, I tend to do my big cleaning on a Monday, good day as hubby is a night shift man and doesn't need ot sleep during the day on a Monday and that means I can do big jobs upstairs etc

Its true that all children grow up so quickly.

They are growing up fast already. They are almost 5 months old. I find that my schedule is very much affected by them. I am not getting things done as I wanted. It is ok. They will be grown and gone before I know it. I will cherish these moments. Anne, my 2 year old just turned 2 in September and then the twins were born in October. Stowyk, I also have a 22, 21 & 18 year old from my previous marriage so I know what I mean when I say they grow up too fast.

You know, it is great to have an itinerary, but sticking to it is the hard part. I love to plan on what I am going to do and how I am going to do it, bit whenever I plan something it never pans out for me that way. So I just go each day at a time.

That is so very true for me as well. I am horrible at keeping to my schedule.

I totally understand. I just hate that there is always something that interrupts my plans.

No I do not have a specific way to clean house. I should borrow yours and modify it to suit my needs. My job is killing me. I think you have a workable plan here.

Thanks so much for stopping by. I find that a daily list helps out so much. Plus if you keep it on a routine it is easy to get done. If you get slack and let a day slip or fall behind it can be a pain. I understand from some of your other posts that they are working you very hard. Good luck with everything.

nope, but i do stuff when necessary and get my teenaged daughters to help. i generally do a load of laundry each day and try to sweep and swifer every couple of days. i have health issues as well as back issues so my hubby vacuums for me but i do most of the other stuff. i also work part time outside of the home and sometimes at home (i do keying for hubby's accounting business).

cher913 my schedule is totally off. The boys take up quite a bit of my time. It is just not working out the way I wanted. Its ok, I love them so much. Glad you have so much help.

Good luck with that. It is hard when you are used to being organized but babies do throw a wrench in things. Try to do your schedule but try not to be hard on yourself if it doesn't all get done. Try throwing laundry in a little each day. You may have to loosen up on some of the chores. Do you need to vacuum everyday? Air filters can help freshen air and cut back on the dusting so maybe you can do it less often. Can the toddler start picking up own toys (making this a game helps). When you make a dinner that can be frozen cook double and freeze half. Then on nights you are just feeling strained you have a home cooked meal you can toss in oven. This can be done in smaller portions for lunch too. Good luck and relax.

Thank you very much for the reply. I am afraid that there are some days that my plan works and other days it is down the tube first thing in the morning. All of your suggestions are very good. I do try to cut back on the work that I have to do by working smarter not harder. Sometimes it does work and sometimes it does not. My two year old is very good about helping me out. He does pick up his toys with encouragement and help from me as well as a few other things. I think I would be lost without him most days. For the cooking dilemma I created menu's for the month and I try to have everything prepared ahead of time. After getting home from grocery shopping the hubby and I work on putting the meats away together. We go ahead and cook the ground beef (if it will be used in spaghetti's, casseroles, etc) and freeze it that way. The same goes with chicken. We will boil the chicken and then shred it and freeze portion sizes for recipes. This helps out alot. Since it has gotten so hot I am trying to use more crock pot recipes and trying to turn the recipes I have into crock pot recipes. It is a work in progress but like you said babies have a way of throwing wrenches into things.

I know what you mean! I have one 4 month baby and am having a hard time keeping the house clean. I can only imagine having Twins! I'm having to find ways to get things done while she's awake, such as putting her in the jumper while I do dishes, bouncy seat while I make the bed, crib so I can switch over laundry, play gym or belly time while I fold laundry...etc... She loves sleeping on my lap for her naps and doesn't sleep long at all in her crib for naps, so cleaning during naptime isn't very realistic for us. People always tell me that too "The mess will still be here tomorrow" Yeah, that's the problem! It needs to not be there! XD Good Luck!

Oh I so understand where you are coming from. I hate it when people tell me that the mess will be there tomorrow. It just irks me to have that much of a mess to start with. I have really had to come up with some creative ways to get things done. (when I can manage it) Most of the time when the hubby comes home I try to take a nap. He gets home from work, we eat and I take a nap because the twins don't like to sleep at night. I think I am averaging maybe 5 to 6 hours of sleep to every 24 hours. My planned schedule is not working out the way I wanted it to. Thanks for stopping by.

I don't have any specific way to clean the house. I do washing as it fills up, the bathroom gets wiped down everyday, and everything else gets done as it needs it. I do have a habit of passing by things that I really don't want to do and then I regret it. You have double the load now but I am sure you will get back into a routine.

I also try to keep the bathroom wiped down daily. Big Keith makes a mess washing his face, brushing his teeth and shaving in the mornings. I always go in and clean the sink after him. Lil Keith makes a mess washing his hands too. I try to keep the sinks wiped down as soon as they dirty them. I have also been passing things by.

I clean my house when the earth moves. Fortunately there are just two of us. When my children were little and home I had to work a lot more at cleaning than I do now. Just know it will get better...and you should stop over cleaning your home and have some fun.
