Are you a good samaritan?

I ran out of gas today on the freeway. Thankfully I could pull of safely and in a construction area. After coming to a stop I walked up to a truck and inside were two construction men. I had asked them if they could take me to the closest gas station as I ran out of gas, and I have a jerry can and cash on me to fill it up. It was agreed, that I would stay with my car and they would take my jerry can and my $5.00 to fill it up and bring it back. While I waited, another man came along and offered to give me 4 or 5 gallons to help get me off the road and I could meet the guys, however, I didn't know which gas station they went to! Either way, they guys came back, I filled up my car and thanked both of them. How about you? Have you ever been a Good Samaritan or had one help you?

I have been a good samaritan to people. I absolutely love helping people. =) There was a guy at the gas station that said he needed money to get him and his kids home. I gave him $20 to help him out. I did not know however that he was going around to everyone there to get money from them and scammed me. =( I am okay with it though because I did the right thing by helping. And I felt good about doing that even though the other person was being dishonest...

That's right Hatley. In the Bible, it sure does say that. And I was happy doing my part for someone no matter what their intentions were...

That was good of you to help. If someone goes around getting help under false pretenses, it's on them, not those who help them. And who knows, you may have still indirectly helped someone else; say if he makes his living scamming money this way and goes home and beats his family whenever he doesn't make enough money, maybe you helped him make enough money that day that he didn't feel the need to take it out on his family.

I try to help those who need help. When driving the Freeways and I see someone in the ditch I will call 911 and report it. We are told that we cause more problems when we try to stop and help let the police do that. Many times I will call and be told that the police are on the way because someone else has called it in, and that too is rewarding.

Yes, these days since I have a cell phone and almost always have one with me I would be more likely to make a call rather than help someone out personally, especially if I was alone or had children with me. While most people are probably safe, there's always a risk when you give (or take) a ride to a stranger, or let someone into your house. There's a fine line, sometimes, between appearing to be selfish or being safe.

Hi SassyBrat, I have had kindness shown to me by total strangers. I have also been a good samaritan in several instances... But when those guys helped you out and got you on your way. did't you feel good,,,like going out to help someone else. I know that how I feel when someone shows a kind heart towards me...

Yes it did @bjc66bjc! It reminded me that for all the times I too have been a good samaritan and to receive it back, showed me that there is still kindness in a world of instability and uncertainty.

If I were one of the construction man I would have done the same depending on how long way would it have been to the gas station. If it would have been just around the corner I would have driven there too, but if it would have been like 10 miles to the closest gas station then maybe I wouldnt have done it.

I do try to help people in any way that I can and there are many nice people in this world who help out others too. It is a nice story you shared here, just goes to show that there are still people in this world who still care about others and are willing to help without expecting anything from others
