Where are my keys?

My husband and I had to switch cars for awhile. A few weeks ago while he was driving my van, he hit our driveway a little too hard, scraped the bottom, and disconnected the muffler which started dragging and scraping and made the car very loud. So, being the nice guy he is, he started driving my van around and I took his jeep. We'd been planning on buying a new van which is why we didn't do the repairs right away.. but we were having trouble finding one we liked within our price range. A friend reminded hubby he'd probably have trouble finding a decently priced car during tax season time.. the good ones marked well would be taken, and the rest would be overpriced to sell. So, we decided to go ahead and fix mine up instead of getting a new one. Anyways.. generally we do not swap cars back and forth. He drives his, I drive mine. The only time he'll ever drive my car is if we're all going out together he will drive the van. He has his own set of keys to the van.. so this has never been an issue. But Wednesday night I needed him to run out for something. While the van was still loud and dragging the muffler, and it was low on gas, he decided he would take the jeep. We only have 1 set of keys for the jeep. Thursday morning he leaves bright and early to take the van to the garage to get it fixed up. I had a 9am appointment at my kids' school to get my daughter signed up for counselling for everything she's been dealing with lately. There was some ice on my car, so I went to go start it early to warm it up.. and guess what? I couldn't find my keys!! I called my husband "Where are my keys?", he says "Oh, sh**".. yep, he still had them from the night before!! And he was about 30 minutes away because that is the ONLY garage we'll ever take any of our cars to. He went to school with the guys who own/work at that garage so not only are they honest and we know we can trust them, they also cut us deals most of the time. (they charged me $600 for the work they did Thursday, which included replacing my exhaust system and fixing an evap sensor that would cause the van not to pass inspection, and an oil change.. considering we paid $1,000 for hubby's exhaust last year before the work, I was rather impressed). I was so mad. He brought them right back out to me and I was only a few minutes late for my appointment.. but still, I was livid! Thankfully by the end of Thursday I had my own van back since it's all fixed up now.. and like I said, he has his own set of keys to the van so we should never have this problem again! Has someone ever accidentally taken your keys when you've needed them?

You would probably be angry with me as I am terrible with keys. Always have been so it is not an old lady thing. I fact when we lived on the farm I did not have my own set of keys. someone was always at home so iot wasn't an issue. This was because I used to lose my keys regularly. I am still awful. When my Daughter was in the US she would call me before bedtime regularly and asked if I had locked the house. I would rush to the door and find it open and then tell her that I had locked up. She would laugh as she said that she could hear me locking the grilled gates over the phone so she knew that I hadn't locked up. The other morning I could not find my car keys and was panicking and then Jo said that perhaps I had left them in the car. I had. With the door open so anyone could have just driven the car away. while I am on line I have to tell you that we have had the most awful news re my little GD (one of the twins in Qatar). she has lost nearly 30%vision in one eye and they have to move lock, stock and barrel to the U.K. for surgery. It is all a nightmare as she will not be home in June again. They will have to live in the U.K. until she has had surgery and this may take up to 6 months.Fortunately they can all live with my third son who has enough room to house them and we are busy enrolling the children into school for the Easter term. However, the tears have stopped flowing and I have been making all arrangements for my DIL who, as you can imagine, is devastated. I am so glad that my 3rd son is there to help. This is why you haven't herd from me.

So sorry for spelling errors. I only noticed after I had pressed 'submit'.

I'm not worried about your spelling. Sorry about your GD. That is terrible. I'd be scared thinking my child will need surgery on their eyes and/or go blind. Awful! I hope everything turns out okay, keep us posted.

He must have felt really bad! Don't be so hard on him! His jeep and my van are the same. I only have one set of keys for them. And up until recently I've grown into the habit of leaving the keys inside the vehicle so there wouldn't be looking for it in the morning. The only drag is I always have to make sure that I open a window. Just in case it accidentally locks with the keys inside.

The problem is that I've warned him before. I've caught him leaving with the keys on him, or I've gone to leave first and he still has them. I told him then he needs to make sure I get them back in case there's ever a time he's gone with them and I need them. I knew it would happen one day. I'm just glad I now have my van back so don't have to worry about it anymore.

It has been ages since I have had a problem like that. We have a key box with sets of keys for everything. When we had five drivers living here, we all had keys to everything, plus a spare. That was an old habit from when my first husband was on the road a lot. I could not get by without having a key to everything.

I think we used to have a spare to his car.. at least I thought we did. No clue what might have happened to it.

My husband has a key chain that clips, so he always clips them on his pants. When he takes his pants off at the end of the day he leaves the belt, wallet, and keys on the pants.. so when he gets dressed the next day he just needs to find his pants and he has everything he needs, and they're not usually hard to find because he leaves them on the sofa usually. When he takes my keys he leaves them in his coat pocket, that's how he forgot he had them.

no but ive locked my keys in or else someone else has once also. so he really needs another set of keys to the one with just one set. plus, you need to have a nail, or something, right by the door and get in habit of putting the keys there or in a set place as soon as you all come back from, any where. have a place for them and get in the habit.

Making extra car keys costs like $100 or more.. and if I leave keys on a hook, my kids will play with them. I prefer he just get into the habit of giving me my keys back if he ever takes them again..

My step-father does this all the time to my mother..It's her van but he has a set of keys. When he drove her van with her in it he used her keys then unthinkingly put them in his own pocket when they got home..then he went off to church practice before church then on to church..no phone..no way of getting a hold of him to bring her keys back because he was going to be gone about 5 hours. My mom was really pissed off because of the situation and chewed his behind out because if anything would have happened like my little sis needed to be rushed to hospital or whatnot..they would have no way and no phone to call ambulance

I think they should be three keys at least in case something like that happens afraid there would at least be the extra key to use. And no hassles and stress about it.

Hubbuy and I don't drive because we are both legally blind, but if we did drive, we'd each have a set of keys. As it is, we both have a set of keys for the apartment (of course!!), and a spare set incase one of us loses our keys. Mine are on a clip that clips right to my coat. We both hve very distinctive keychains, so we would notice if one of us took the wrong keys.

This happened with the truck that my husband used to drive. He had the only key to the truck and I had keys to my car, but he was driving the car that day because of the fact it was cold and snowy that morning and the truck really wasn't a good vehicle to drive in the snow. Well, he ended up working late and I needed to go to his work to pick up my car but didn't have a key to the truck. I ended up having to start it with a screwdriver (the original key had broken in the ignition at some point so it was possible). Of course, we now have a van that only has one set of keys and they are really expensive to make an extra set of, so I still only have keys to my car. However, he never drives my car anymore.
